So with the latest update Juggernaut and Ares have exchanged their shield properties. Which do you think is the better Mech now?
I’ve been seeing a lot more Ares on the battlefield lately. Just curious which one everyone is running. I’ve got both, Jugg at 5.3 and Ares at 4.5. Not going to invest in either of them, or anything else for that matter, until after the compensation for dual copies drops. Since I’ve got three dual copied Mechs I’m just hoarding resources and will wait to see what’s new in the next update. What’s your thoughts?

I don't like to run tanks, but in an especially difficult CPC game today, I happened to be following two blue AI Ares. I knew they were AI cause one of them kept turning in circles while kinda moving forward. Anyway, they covered each other and so I ducked in behind them with my CB12 Panther and by the time they both died, I had cleared the entire area of reds.
Moral of that story: if you like team play, then Ares is still your tank, but if you like lone wolfing it, I'd go Jugg.
Me, I prefer Panther cause if you use it right, it's tankier than either tank. I had a team mate once use dual RG16 Panther. Holy moly he wiped the floor with the other team. I have a feeling that in the new meta, if you see a Stasis Field you better prioritize it with non-LOS mechs like JR6 Shadow or RM12 Killshot cause if it's a RG16 Panther, it can and will single shot kill you if it sees you.

Ares is now my tank, just marginally eking past Juggy. It’s slightly faster, and swapping the shield timing just makes a bit more sense to me. I’m still running just a basic 3-slot hangar - Killshot w/ jav6, Ares w/ RPG6, and Panther w/ MR8. Once Ares hits R4, I’ll put either MR8’s or PC8’s on it, whichever works better. Probably PC8’s, because I like the RM’s on Panther for now. I have nothing bigger on the shelf at the moment, and at the rate I play and collect resources lately, it’s going to be a long while before I get something else and Panther gets upgraded.

I’m a light mech fan and Shadows get it done. That said, I run a MR8 Ares too and the recent buff to the shield is a noticeable improvement. I don’t have to plan around the timer running down and it gives me some tactical flexibility I appreciate. Ares can shine in an assault role.
Ares won’t replace the popularity of Panthers, but I don’t think it has too. It fits it’s own unique niche in the game now.

I always liked the Ares... while coming up I used it pretty much every game... but over time who I played with determined more what I ran. Now, this change plus a max energy of 24 gave me an excuse... so I have put it back in. Haven't used it too much but it's been good every time. It's not a complete Leeroy Jenkins mech though... it still has to be played carefully. But as was said by Koala, it really shines as a team mech.

I think with the new EN increase, all the tanks are gonna see major firepower increases. Anyone playing light mechs will need to exercise more skill and caution cause can you imagine Ares, Jugg or Brickhouse running a Thanos build? Not only will it be difficult to kill them, but they can one shot kill most light mechs. This really makes me rethink my eventual hangar layout cause I think I'm gonna have to run at least one tank.
Question on the Jugg's shield. Does the cool down timer start once the shield is depleted or after the normal duration of the shield? That was always my biggest beef against the Ares in that the cool down timer didn't start until after the shield duration was complete, which meant that if your shield got toasted in 1 sec, you had to wait an eternity before being able to shield up again.

You have to wait.
I run a Jug and don’t have an Ares so can’t discuss the difference. However I do miss the shield timing control I had w the previous mechanics. I’m slowly getting the hang of the new workings.
CPC games fit my play style better, love the pace, and the Jug shines on contested control points. The health pool and encompassing shield have been the difference between a point remaining blue and turning more times than I can count, it stays the reds, giving my team time to close and help.
It can also do really well in death match on the smaller maps. I crack up when a leveled killshot turns a corner all prideful thinking he has easy prey, only to meet a brick wall w carb 10s chewing him up.
I may level an Ares at some point buts it not a priority, seeing my jug is 6.2.

It's how Ares was. The duration counter gets added to the cooldown counter if the shield goes down early. However, Jug's total shield cycle time is still better than Ares' was. Ares was 15 seconds up, 12 seconds for refresh, meaning the shield was only available every 27 seconds. Juggernaut is 12 on, 10 for refresh, so 5 seconds faster than old Ares. Jug still has a bigger base body than Ares too, so it's not as punishing.

Thanks for that Redfiend. Now I don't know if I want to keep using the Jugg anymore. I hated that the timer only started after the duration. Maybe I should hold out for Brickhouse? Hmm...meh, we'll see. I'm still closer to maxing my Jugg than my Ares so I might just have to learn to get used to it.

If you plan on using a Stasis 16 heavy instead of a Railgun heavy, Railgun+MR8 on Killy and Brickhouse.

I'm planning on cloning my SB16 for my Panther and CB12 or RM12 on the KS, depending on mode.
Of course, after I max the mechs!

I choose Ares over Juggy, but am only at 4-1. Im going to have a couple holes to patch in my hanger, and he may take one of them.

I use Ares now. He is the top tank as things stand. I still like Juggy but he is on the bench until his next event. Or of I get in a mood to run mostly tanks. I still think putting a timer on his shield was unnecessary and a bad move.

Gotta admit, the thought of running a Thanos Ares or even Jugg sends shivers down my spine. Unless you're another tank, a Panther or maybe a Guardian, you won't dare trying to tank of of these on 1v1.

So I did a silly. No. I did not spend any money. I said silly, not stupid.
I had thrown most of my copied mech booty into Paragon just to rank it up enough to carry SB16 and RM12. It was ok in some situations, and it helped jack up my SP to over 3400, but it wasn’t what I’d call a difference maker. So I called old faithful Juggy back into service, still at R5, so it can hold Carb 8+10. And lo and behold, my Carb 10 was sitting at R5.4, and I had enough of a little stash left to take it up to R6. That was my silly, considering that up until just a few hours ago I was planning on hoarding resources until a Jav 8 showed up. Except nobody knows for sure if it actually will show up, and if it does, how it will be obtained. So I said screw it, live for today, and now I’ve got two Carb10’s, but nothing really viable to put them both on. Yet. Juggy is now sitting at 5.4, but I’m about out of credits and a-coins (again), so it’s gonna be awhile before Carb #2 comes off the shelf. But that’s where my resources are going next. Maybe if I play more than two games a day … Juggy will live again.

I ran CB 10 + MR 8 on Killshot and whatever tank I was using, at the same time, a lot, when they were all sitting at 18 EN. Just depends on whether you want more burst or more sustained fire on the second weapon.

Well the verdict is in and Ares was just a placeholder until i figured how to fill the gap when the twin Panther and KS were gone. It sat at 4-1 for a while, and he has now earned a permanent slot in my hanger I took him to 6-1 and he is a beast. I run the same loadout on Ares and Zephyr MR8'S and AT10's. These are my new "Twins"

I dunno - can’t hurt to try it a few games.
