You know, I've been thinking a lot about my first car purchase....they say you shouldn't regret too many things in life and I always tell my kids that there are two kinds of regret: regret for something you did and regret for something you didn't do. My first car was both.
Yes, after several weeks of looking, I fell for all the swarmy sales tactics of the Saturn model. But, before that, I did look around at a lot of cars. I almost settled on a Geo Metro cause it was 10k brand new and I could afford it completely on my own without a loan (I was mid 20s and just starting to build a savings account). But, one car really caught my eye. It was a red Jeep TJ with a 2.0l engine as opposed to the higher end 4.0l engine. It had the optional hard top in white and it was a repossessed vehicle because whoever bought it a few weeks prior didn't want to or couldn't keep it. They knocked 6k off the MSRP and it was around 23k or 25k if I remember correctly. About the same as the POS Saturn that I bought. I turned it down for a couple of reasons, one of which was that I wanted my first car to be completely "new". Sheesh...what a mistake that was. The Saturn ended up being in and out of the service department with mysterious and weird sound emanating from it all the time that the mechanics could never trace down. I ended up giving up on it and lived with all the little idiosyncrasies. Polymer dent proof side panels are NOT worth the creaking and groaning of said panels every time you drive. Plus, the engine would start to get warm and the temperature gauge would climb whenever I was stuck in traffic.
I keep thinking about that Jeep TJ though. With the new fad in cars to have two tone colours, ie, one colour body and a white roof, I keep thinking, "damn, I could have been well ahead of the times with that TJ!". Plus, that thing would have been a big chick magnet! So, yeah, my first car...both types of regret. I regret buying that stupid Saturn and I regret not buying that Jeep TJ.
When my wife was pregnant with our son, she suggested that we get a new car and I JUMPED at the suggestion!
Fast forward and we just got ourselves a 2021 Ravana 4 Hybrid. Man, that thing literally drives itself! The plan was to let our son drive our 6 year old Mazda CX5 to and from university so that he doesn't have to take transit. I got it in June because I remember reading that inflation rates were going to go up this year. And, my son is going for his G2 driver's test today, so fingers crossed!

Ohhh....hahah, I didn't even notice! I'll just leave it like that for context! I thought you actually found a car named Ravana and thought “now that’s dedication!” Then I Googled it and realized it must’ve been autocorrect. Still pretty funny. Now you just need to put an “na” next to the name badge. Rav4na! You nerd. They need a Toyota Rav4na War Robots Edition

Just for the sake of accuracy, and as a Wrangler owner a couple of times in my past, the Wrangler never had a 2.0…it was 2.5L 4 cylinder, and trust me, you want the inline 6 for sure, especially if your not going to be a mall crawler.
Bummer about that Saturn, but we all live and learn!
Just for grins, I’ll mention after many years and many cars/Jeep’s/Trucks, I love my current fat bottom girl-named Bluebelle-a 2006 Avalanche. Sweet ride, horrors for green folk at 13mpg, lol!

My 1st car was a 32 Ford Coupe.
Later model Flat head V8.
Built entirely from junk yard parts and it looked like it.
Never did much too it than drive it.
I worked at a junkyard after school and on weekends.
Had a few friends help.
My Pop hated it. I loved it.
Wish I had a pic of it. But this was back in 1963. I was definitely in my
young and dumb stage of life.

My first car was a 1986 Cadillac Cimarron (read: souped up Chevy Cavallier). My grandparents were getting something better for my grandmother and I was a junior in college. I drove it for a few years, put in a fair amount of money addressing things that needed to be fixed and were due.
All in all, it was a decent car. It was particularly nice to have the V-6 in such a small car and the then larger-than-standard rims.
In retrospect, I wish I still had it. I've thought on many an occasion that I'd have it converted from front wheel drive to rear wheel drive and fix the A/C (since it didn't work and was expensive to fix at that point). It was a fun little car to drive and sounded quite good with the 6-cyl engine in it.
