I kinda lucked out being from a car family. My dad was a self/father taught mechanic/paint and body work enthusiast. One of my cousins was a avid auto mechanic and the other was a weekend drag racer. Story goes: My dad painted my cousinâs Mach 1 drag racing car and my cousin gave the Cutlass(given to him by my other cousin for some payment) to my dad to pay the outstanding balance on the paint and bodywork on the Mustang. My older brother drove it to high school, then my sister and then me. Unfortunately, when I went off to University it sat for many years and more years when I moved to Japan. My mechanic cousin took it off my dadâs hands recently in order to rebuild it, but time and rust have not been kind. What was your first car? Edit: 1970 Cutlass Supreme Holiday Coupe. 350 Rocket bored to 355, 4-barrel Holley carb. on Edelbrock manifold, Street/Race transmission.

1976 Ranchero GT. It was almost new, with the 351M motor and no weight it was great on the straights. Got this one next while still in HS. 76 Nova, had a 305 that had been bored out to 324 and could take anyone 0-100 where it petered out. Mine had prettier metallic blue paint with lots of clear, same wheels but goodyear eagle GT+4 tires.

Mine was a real POC.... I even bought it new after several weeks of hmming and hawing, but I really liked the no pressure sales tactics and eventually got it. Damn, years later and I still wish I got almost any other car other than that Saturn SL2! What a piece of crap. When my first kid came around, my wife insisted that we get a new car. I'm so glad I listened!

First car: 67 Camaro, 6 cylinder, "Three on the Tree" for you old farts. Piece of Poop cosmetically. Ran well enough, sorta. Had to give up on it.
First real car: 75 Olds Cutlass. 100,000 rust belt miles on it and dying. I have a 2000 Civic Si with 200,000k daily driver miles on it and it is still a better car than that Cutlass.

Golf 1 TAS With 1.3 gasoline engine and idk, 50 HP. Probably less. 4 speed manual gearbox. Well, with reverse being the 5th, so it kind of makes it regular 5 speeder. Not to be confused with regular VW Golf 1, this one was made in Sarajevo, capital of Bosnia and Herzegovina while it was still a part of Yougoslavia, the famous country that made the automobile industry gem, Yugo. Along with some other sorts of vehicles. In the 80's. Probably most likely 70's. Not that I'm a history nerd.
And car wasn't even mine. My dad bought it and i adopted it. Wasn't really a bilateral thing.

You beat me to it, we called it VW Rabbit though The 1982 version I had had a 0-60 speed that was "undefined" not bad for $350 though. 6"3" me had to tilt the seat so far back it was effectively a 3 seater, and the only way to get it into first was to put it in second, slam the shifter forward and pray, hill starts were an adventure, but I loved that car and named her Sally, even managed to get laid in it (obligatory uncomfortable position comment.)

I put an oak 2 by 8 across that front bumper and my dad had Welders at work make a rear bumper from 4” steel channel as no rear bumper was included. WAIT- brain wave all at once says there’s a picture in cabinet in basement

My first vehicle was a 62 Ford F100 with unibody construction. It too was a POC but made it from Pa to Nebraska a few times. I paid more for my Suzuki RM125 motocross bike than the truck!

1969 chevelle. Multi colored POS. 400 small block. Power glide transmission. Hole in floor boards that allowed me to unlock my keys when I accidentally locked them in the car (happened multiple times). Rear end was geared for the straight six that was in it, so it only did like 90 mph tops. Crager SS wheels. Took a quart of oil at every fill up. Real POC ride. But one of thee best cars I ever owned. Always tell my kids that you need to start with a junker so you know how to fix something when it breaks and you will appreciate when you have something nice.
And as zombie wolf said, my Honda CR125 motocrosser cost more than the car. Lol. And yes, I put the bike in the trunk to go riding. Wheel hanging out the side and all. Great memories!

Since we’re getting some hot hatches here I’ll submit my own…. 1984 Mercury Lynx wagon- light blue. A hand-me-down from my older sisters hand-me-down. A solid 4 speed manual with a sturdy 80 horsepower. Ran great until I belatedly understood that you needed to occasionally check the oil levels… Not my pic buts it’s an exact replica.

Forget first cars for a sec...how about dream car?
Don't know why I've always loved the Mustang. One of my favourite manga characters of all time drive a Mustang: Rally from Gunsmith Cats; so maybe that's why.

Cool to see several Cutlesses! I didn't own it, but the first car I was given free reign in was a 4 door 72 Cutless. Had the 350 Rocket so I definitely had some fun... just not as much as I would have if it had been the Coupe... or if it had been mine lol.
First car I actually owned was a Pontiac Bonneville... Don't remember the year.. early 90s. It was basically a pity gift that one of my well-off friend's parents sold to me for a dollar. Apparently it was a fleet car for their company and was the first one they let their son drive. Once he was proven worthy of a new car (or maybe he had saved up, I really don't know), they hooked me up. I assume it was because they knew enough about my family's... less than fortunate... financial situation. I loved it... had a CD player, power windows, and everything lol! But, also due to our financial dire straights, we lived in a rather rough part of town. The morning I was to go to MEPS and start my in-processing for going to Boot Camp, I walked out to wait on my recruiter at 0530 AM, and the car was gone. All that was left in the driveway was the lock cylinder. What a freaking day.

Just an image off the internet…haven’t seen that car…since my Dad sold it, I guess (high-school graduation present, so of course *he* owned it, decreed what I could do with it, sold it without warning while I was out of town). Mine was in excellent shape & solid running condition when I got it

My first and current car is a 2001 Pontiac Grand Prix that I bought from my Grandpa when he was moving. It's pretty nice and well kept although it needs its headlights replaced soon.
Also it's red so it go FAST!

My first car was a 1987 Acura Integra that looked just like this one but blue. I sold it in 1995. You don't see these hardly at all anymore, but I was shocked to come across one last week. It was in pretty bad condition, but I still was excited to SEE one. Oh yeah one of my HS friends got an 87 or 88 Integra when I was in HS in 91. He was the envy of many of us. That thing was so cool back then!

My grandmom got me this exact Bronco II same paint and decals when I turned 16. Except stock wheels. It was 6 yrs old but not bad mileage and good shape. I think she paid 3k. I went straight to the stereo store and got two 12" cerwin vega subs and an Amp mounted in the back. I thought I was the bomb lol.
