Iâm thinking this is gonna be like the Ion Cannon from Command and Conquer.
I have a few presumptions, likely wildly inaccurate:
Map Issues:
1) Pixonic never updated the maps- Noricum, Zenits, and Arthur Farts pass through surfaces to nail people below, but regular gunfire does not. This suggests to me each surface is coded two ways, and the mothership bombardment follows the rules for one or the either- because I really doubt Pixonic would invest the time to add a third topographical layer to every map if they canât even update old maps in a timely manner. So either you can hide under stuff, or you can, and if you canât hide- then youâll have splash damage spots youâll really want to avoid- the kind upper league players on carrier map love to hide behind. I know, I kill you 「fluffernutter」ers all the time there with my Zenits. For everyoneâs sake Iâm hoping they coded the bombardment for gunfire so everyone doesnât flip out everytime they get carrier map.
Wild Stab in the dark at appearing balanced to new players:
2) Iâm guessing the main reason Pixonic has been pushing absorber shield chips recently is to mitigate the inevitable bad reaction to the mass bombardment- you can easily (well, easily enough) get the Discus Drone to fill the chips, but I donât see them popping up in key chests. I find this bizarre as it is undoubtedly the very bad reaction a lot of new players have to being exposed to Titans, not knowing what they are and finding this massively OP bot The Kid is wiping the floor with them. Some get excited and want to get it- but a large population of the game must flip out realizing how unbalanced this game can be. Giving such players a indirect fire approach immediately at hand will likely make some feel empowered to hide till it charges and fight and stay with the game a bit longer.
3) If the mothership bombardment is to counter the titans so people are more willing to invest into and keep older bots, and not become immediately dissatisfied with the game, then it goes to reason new titans and new counter Titan bots- which are inevitably stealthed, are probably immune to this. Iâd be surprised if this wasnât linked directly to auto aiming hit box pointing.
Or at least it is complicated to hit them- I canât just bomb empty space without enemies with the Zenit unless it is the horizon. Iâm guessing the act of aiming at someone is line of sight is to the hit box, and initially a limited range you gotta be within to paint the target. Recharge time likely comes into play, and you likely donât get the option prior to titans deploying.
4) A bot or passive module will appear that can blanket cloak a area like how medical bots can repair all blue team members in a area. Thatâs the only way I see Carrier not becoming the most hated map on this game. Fits Pixonicâs MO- create a impossible enemy to dodge, see it big, then sell the counter to it. Some future bot or gadget will allow everyone to dodge this- in six months to a year from release, and if it is cloaking then expect that- if a different kind of function entirely blocks or mitigates and cloaking does nothing expect that instead.
Mothership is direct result of the failure of this forum
5) Only reason we even gotta give everyone air strikes is because this forum has a bunch of wacky cultists who insist indirect fire weapons like the Zenits and Noricums are not Meta, donât belong in the game- but everyone lower league is upset units like the Arthur can hide behind walls with impunity and kill them. It is already a heavily OP unit, and when they look online for solutions or think maybe that Natasha they have that helped them win in lower leagues can do something, they just find years of negative propaganda from a bunch of losers who not only never figured out after years of playing this game how the aim functions in this game (too many wacky conspiracy theories floating around here), but stifled any advancement in people learning how to master these weapons.
End result is, nobody invested in indirect fire weapons but everyone would bring up the need for one, despite a few existing in game. So congratulations morons, everyone is getting them. It will require no skill or giving up a mech slot. Only because of you this happened. Zenits and Noricums work- just nobody seriously pursued that niche. Now everyone is going to do it. Why? Because there are only a few ways to get someone behind a wall. You gotta flank them, jump over them, or get them in the bombardment radius of something, or nail them from indirect fire from above. The dodo birds on this forum wrote the weapons that do work off, end result is Pixonic is now forced to give everyone this attack option to balance the game out. Would of been better if a larger portion of the player base was encouraged to go the upgrade route and stayed with keeping Zenits and Noricums on a bot in the hanger. Irrational hysteria against indirect fire lead to a pandemic of everyone using it.
Few options Pixonic has otherwise
6) If most people fell they canât kill OP units hiding behind barriers, they quit the game prior to investing into it, exasperated. The gaggle of idiots here have badmouthed perfectly good weapons that performed that function. As a result people arenât playing the game in a rational, balanced way. It is completely logical- OP campers get bombed indirectly- it is what weâve done since developing catapult artillery in the 5th century BC. People 「female dog」 and scream about scorpions- but that somehow got on the Meta bandwagon so is popular- it can get behind walls. How many ways do you honestly think Pixonic can pull out of its 「bum-bum」, aimed at letting lesser units target OP units hiding behind walls, that modern militaries havenât tried? There are not a whole lot of options. In order to keep a player base, they gotta give in early to the crowd wanting effective counters, and you numbskulls prevented the logical ingame options that works well from catching on. It works very well, it seems to work best on higher league players not used to skilled Zenit and Noricum users.
End conclusion:
So this game is going to get very stupid very fast- Iâm undoubtedly gonna see a lot of microbrained idiots who 「female dog」ed about Zenits embracing Motherships, bragging how they can now hits stuff behind walls from far away. Yeah- Iâm happy for you. Carrier map is gonna fail for many high leagers, unless Pixonic makes cloaking a counter or gives warning a spot is about to be bombed in X seconds. Even that is gonna ruin manyâs game. Iâm thinking absorber shields will work but who really knows. If they do, they will have to go from expensive rarity to freebies given out like candy. Only unit unable to use them (for now) are titans. Pixonic is clearly trying to appease that early crowd of players who have adverse reaction to titans, not seeing a way to win against them and wanting to give up.
Iâm also thinking of all Titans, Minos with its reflector shield and ability to dash away might withstand it. I really donât know. I started on building a Hell Burner running bot today incase I find my heavier units too slow- if warnings are a part of this space bombardment mechanics. That plus knowing the unit will get a third passive slot here soon. Moving fast or having absorber chips and the ability to rapidly heal seem the best choices for me- but I might find I need to get everything cloaked instead. Might go for a Loki after. I really donât know, trying to predict.
