So on the iOS 6 Pack Fight Club discord, we like to mix things up a bit to help keep things fresh and to let some of the lesser used bots see regular combat fun. So one week we will play Casual 6 Pack, which is to say any legal 6 Pack League hangar and the next week we will use a custom format to spice things up. All of these formats were created by one person or another and given a go by the group. They've all been played multiple times and each twists the meta, as it were, in a different way. They are:
1LM1HM, otherwise known as One Light Minimum, One Heavy Maximum:
That's it. Your hangar must contain at least one light bot and may contain up to one heavy bot. This format is really popular.
Cricket Night:
All Cossacks all the time. Generally we play Highlander Crickets which is where each Cossack must use a different weapon, otherwise you end up with 5 Taran Cossacks. This format leads to the most sore thumbs as jumping/shooting/jumping/shooting nonstop makes for a real workout. Another fan favorite for nonstop speedy action.
Emperor and Serfs:
One player per team with 3 heavies and 2 Ecu Cossacks (1 long range build max, no ancilots), the rest with All Lights. Protect your Emperor for your Emperor is your path to victory! Highly suggested to come with a Serf hangar if you only have one hangar. Lots of fun.
Highlander Lights:
Every bot must be different. A classic that is full of fast moving action.
Highlander Mediums:
Every bot must be different. Also known as Medium Rare. Another really fun format that has a ton of build variety in it.
NHH: No Heavy Highlander:
No heavies, Highlander Mediums and Lights only. The best of both worlds or a dilution? Only you can decide.
Kings and Knights:
Every hangar must have 1 King:Ancile/Ecus only & 4 Knights: Weapons only. Only Kings can take or hold center beacon. This format is really fun but also the hardest to manage as the rule of only Kings being allowed in center can get a bit crazy in the midst of combat. Still, it really changes the dynamic and the range of Kings brought to the game have been truly varied. Everything from Ancile Shutze to Eculots (Ecu Ancilots). The fact that Kings are allowed everywhere is also often forgotten as an Ecu Stalker suddenly breaks for far off beacons in it's best Loki imitation. King drop order is important.
Light Night: As on the can
Medium Night: As on the can
Light Weapons Only (medium ecu's allowed):
This was played once and was really fun as it skewed the power of bots in strange directions. I actually had a weaponless Fujin in one of my hangars which proved its worth as a surprise drop on its first game and then died horribly after that. Heh. Definitely going to try it again.
Trolls and Goblins:
Every hangar must have 1 Heavy & 4 Lights. Emperors and Serfs grew out of this format, where after playing it it seemed that the heavies had a bit too much impact on the game at times and so we wanted to ease off a bit on that. Still fun though.
We meet every Wednesday and Saturday night at 9pm EDT. If any of this sounds like fun to you, consider joining us!
