As i approach this point, what kind of play style is best suited for Cheetah? I prefer CpC, so i am in reds faces often battling for real estate. Does the bot have the hull strength to holdup to a fist fight or is it better suited to hit and run?

I don't have one. From what i have seen its best as a hit and lure with jav6s. Keep firing javs from behind a corner, lay mines for when they come for you. Others may have better input.

skip cheetah for now, if you want to come back to it later in the game, sure, but if you're just approaching 51k XP, there are so many other things worth spending A-coins on. A Cheetah costs roughly half of Carbine 8/10/12, which are soooooooooooooooo much better

I haven't seen many Cheetahs played well. IMO, if they'd made it the fastest mech in the game, I might have been interested. But, from what I can see, it just doesn't have the HP to last in a firefight and it doesn't really have anything else to help it escape. I personally find the mines to be quirky and gimmicky. I even had one red Cheetah armed with a LA10, try throwing the mines at me in close quarters. It didn't end well for him!
I think the best way to play Cheetah is to get it to EN12 and slap Jav6 on it. Play it like Shadow with the difference being that you want reds to see you and follow you and step on the mines. The problem is that it will take a while to get enough blueprints to level it up to EN12, not to mention the expense. I had a similar decision way back, and decided to focus on leveling my Shadow instead of pursuing the Cheetah. That was one of the better decisions I made.

I am a pray and spray player, but i need to invest in some of these key weapons to move up some. Weapons win games, bots are basically just a place to put them.

I skipped that one also. I was never a Loki kinda guy and i assume it plays similar. I had one but because my reflexes aren't too quick i found him too squishy.

I wasn't much of a Stalker player, but I got good with Pursuer. Shadow, with Jav6 is the ultimate Sucker Puncher which is my ideal playstyle. The whole line of sight mechanic is powerful in the game. If you're in view of any red, you show up on the radar for every red. This opens you up to RMs and Javs and ambushes. With the Shadow and with careful maneuvering, I can make sure that the Red Eye appears as little as often, which means that I can often deal lots of damage with no one knowing where I am. If you like fast sneaky mechs, then the Shadow is worth bringing up to R5 just to get EN12 capability. It's my only R5 mech in my hangar.

My opinion...Shadow and Cheetah are fun and effective, but too expensive to get them that way early. Koalabear knows the Shadow better so he can speak to it's effectiveness, but the light mechs cost the most to rank up. The Cheetah is an excellent ambusher. I've seen high level players play it super well on tournament with Javs. It mimics the KS in that you have more to damage opponents than just the Javs as the mines can hurt/finish off an opponent. However, I think the downsides outweigh the good at lower level vs a KS. The Cheetah is a light mech and needs to get to R5 to run both Jav6s while the KS only needs to be at R4 because it's a medium mech. It's also slower overall than the KS. The costs to get it to a comparable level of effectiveness are disproportionate. I'd love to own and run a Shadow and Cheetah at some point, but it's going to be a back burner desire for a while.

I've actually seen only one 3000+ SP player run Cheetah w/ Javs, but he underperforms in tourney relative to his SP (I'm not the only one in my clan who's noticed this). You might know who I'm talking about

Cheetah is better than Shadow in most PvP maps. If something is using Javelins, you're better off spawning a Tank. Cheetah is best with MR6. Just poke out, lob the missiles at anything under, 150M, put the mines on the choke point or walls if something tries to rush in before you're reloaded. Mines regen quickly. If nothing chases you, pop out just long enough to get some more missiles off(2 seconds) and pull back. Just reposition and don't get pinched. It's a monster on the long range map that only has a small center 4 ramped platform, a pit under the platform, 2 towers, 2 barricades,2 trenches and 2 columns near each spawn. If your Snipers get KOd, there's probably very little time left in the round. Cheetah can mad-dash for cleanup kills like Killshot can. If your Killshots get KOd in CQC maps, Cheetah can act as a 3rd killshot. 3 mines deal 6K more damage than a Killshot Zip-splat(Killshot: 30.7K. Cheetah: 36.6K).
Killshot is a star player in any hangar. Even if the opponent has 2 killshots, you get to bait one of your enemy's Killshot out and terrorize the field if they don't deal with yours. If they have one and you have 2, the round is pretty much over for them immediately. They'll have to spawn a Tank or Zephyr because Killshot can mow down all of the current attackers (Guardian/Paragon/Panther).
