Just saw the movie thread so thought I'd start a telly one. Let's see what obscure 「dookie」 we can share. Now I'd like to say this should be a list of what you think is best sci-fi not necessarily what you just enjoy watching. For example I watch star Trek(ds9,voy) and love watching it, but it truly is trash, low intelligence scifi so it is not on my list. Here's my list.
Star Trek (TNG ONLY) Stargate-SG1 Farscape Lexx (ironically, what I believe to be the most intelligent show) ......................
That said, my favorites to watch include Voyager, the pervert purple alien guy who fights clowns, ORIGINAL Lost in Space, First Wave, and Firefly.

Mandalorian. Falling Skies. War of the Worlds. New one seems good so far. The Expanse. First few seasons. Altered Carbon. First season. Haven't seen the second.

Dark Matter. Great series but cut short at 3 seasons when the creator wanted 4 or 5. I think it was a Canadian show but on Netflix now.
Other Space. Not really in your criteria, it’s a Sci-Fi comedy created by Paul Feig. Only 1 really funny season and I’m not sure where it can be watched now. Stars Bess Rous that just kept distracting my male gaze away from the story lol.
oh yeah, Battlestar Galactica, the one with Edward James Olmos 🚀

Paging fellow Firefly fan, Browncoats4ever! Seriously, this is probably my all time fave SciFi show, and they cut it way too soon! I'd always hoped for a reunion sequel after the movie Serenity, but oh well. I had a great fan fiction story idea in my head but never got around to writing it. Sigh...

Not in a particular order: Bs Galactica (2004) Star Trek Deep Space One ( because of Ben Sisko, the coolest captain in the ST universe) Star Trek Voyager (because of 7 of 9, the sexiest Borg in the universe) Star Trek Enterprise (because it showed us Vulcans can be sexy too) The Expanse ( very captivating storyline and story telling) Firefly Rick and Morty (the most hilarious sci fi show) Starwars: the clone wars Westworld (2016) Stargate Universe (so much potential; cut short in the second season)

Was going to type simply "Firefly" (8 hours ago), then I noticed santaclaus listed it in his post. Now that I've been called out by Koalabear, I'll just leave you with this: BTW: My screen name for Jurassic Monster World IS Malcolm Reynolds.

I love these treads... in Order 1. Stargate SG1 with 2 movies at the end... the amount this franchise stole from Star Trek is crazy, but i still love it. 1a. The Mandolorian (1a...only cause its not finished yet and there isn't 214 episodes with 2 movies to wrap them up like above) 2. Firefly with Serenity … "I am a leaf on the wind" might be the best line in a movie ever.... also you all nailed it above... best opening theme. I still listen to it randomly every now and then when i miss it or life has me down. 3. BattleStar Galactica (04) 4. Star Trek Voyager... another great opening theme 5. Star Trek TNG 6. Orphan Black 7. The Expanse 8. Black Mirror 9. Quantum Leap 10. Stargate Atlantis
My Fav show of all time right now is Avatar: The Last Airbender, but doesn't seem to fit the category according to the innerwebs.
Good Hunting all.

Does Maniac count? With Emma Stone, Jonah Hill and Sally Field. Not spacey but based around some fictional science. Love the direction and look of it and can’t believe I forgot it because I’ve been rewatching it this last week.

GiraffeMan I loved the Last Airbender too, but couldn't get into Legend of Korra. If you liked TLA, you will love The Dragon Prince on Netflix. Similar vibe, some actors carried over (voice of Sokka is the protagonist) and a colourful variety of characters. Only con I have is that the world the creators have created is huge, and they can't give enough screen time to every aspect. Since it's a Netflix show, I think they should have gone with longer episodes.

Since it's a Netflix show, I think they should have gone with longer episodes. Yoooo Dragon prince was amazing, they should do a live action. Normal2im very critical of how Netflix presents content, because they clearly have agendas, and whatever fine. But dragon prince does it the RIGHT and best way. A black guy is king, elves are 「fluffernutter」ing 「really happy」, but literally nothing is done to make sure you're aware of that, you know what I mean? The king doesn't go on a monologue about how his "people" had to overcome blah blah blah to get here, everyone is presented on an even level and all shenanigans in the show have only something to do with people's actions, not their race or whatever. Side tangent, someone mentioned captain sisko, and I don't like him. I get it, star Trek is social commentary and race relations, but a black man it the 600 year space future being upset over civil right in earth of antiquity defies belief. But the show wanted to remind us the viewer how oppressed the black man was instead of focus of how none of that matters now and what ANY man can do(amd I think Kassidy Yates makes a point of that talking about the Vegas holoprogram). Ironically even though I don't like agenda episodes, the 1930s episode of Benny is my favorite and is a great episode dealing with civil rights, the guy who plays sisko does an amazing job. Anyway for the record I hate sisko, and no not because he's black. He may be cool, and suave, perhaps even buccaneer ... But he's a garbage administrator, a terrible soldier and officer, and an inappropriate statesman. I don't even want to get into ethics or his crony Klingon relationships right now.

does anyone remember the sci fi anime, 'tripping the rift'? It broadcasted in sci-fy channel for one season back in mid 2000s and got canceled for some reason. It was so darn funny.

I'm a big Star Wars fan, loved all of the series, even Resistance. Also enjoy Star Trek, but I'm not as completist about it; same goes for Farscape. Firefly, of course, and shoutout to milty72 for bringing up Falling Skies. I remember the first episode where they had made camp in Richmond, VA, because the establishing shot of the wrecked city was around the corner from where I work.

I love it when they film stuff near where I live or work. You sit there pointing locations out through the show/movie. ie Matrix. That's the tunnel near Central and that is the Westpac building beside the building I was working on.

That's the show I was trying to remember! The purple alien clown show. This was bugging me since I made that post. I think around that time was more weird cgi show called Xander angel or something, it was some Hawk snake person who basically had existential crisis every episode and it was weird. Obviously reasons why it was on at 3 am

Ok, I'm now in season 2 of The Expanse. Holy freaking moly, no one ever told me there was powered armour in this show!!
I don't know why I never got into it before...maybe because season 1 moved so slowly as they were setting up all the pieces. I used to think that it was like a smaller scale Babylon 5, but B5 was never this good on it's best day.
The science is solid too. Reminds me of a cruder Battlestar Galatica - which makes sense.
And there's rumours of a season 6??
Hmm, I just finished watching The Strain and looks like I'm really getting into The Expanse now too.
