Looks like I'm quickly approaching a rime when I an get my Guardian and I'm seeking weapos options for her. I am doing this in 2 steps. The first is with weapons i have on hand so i do not need to waste resources. The second phase will be for a more long term, damage dealing package. First obviously it has to hit hard at close range so i can activate the ability. Second it will need fairly quick reload speeds. I am willing to strip off weapons from other bots to accommodate. I have a few other weapons in the wings that could also go on it. Also looking to add my 5th slot as soon as i can aquire the coinage.

The extra slot is not a priority. Plasma Cannons work well closer up but can still hit at some range and have a sustained fire. Best recommendation for Guardian if you are not doing Longarms or Rocket Mortars. EDIT: LOL, I did mean Pulse Cannons! Hate that those two names are so close. Plasma can work but many do not upgrade them as there are always better choices at a given range. Thanks ⓣⓡⓘⓒⓚⓨ48

I agree with Munki that the 5th slot isn't priority yet... And with the fact that PC8s do work well on the Guardian... but RPGs and MRs are also pretty useful on it. EDIT: I read that too fast... he said Plasma Cannons, not Pulse cannons... so... early game, Plasma is OK. But like mechtout said, Pulse Cannon are going to last to end-game and will give you that short reload with lots of damage that you are wanting. You have to decide on-the-fly whether or not you will be using your ability as an offensive or defensive tool. With ranges that vary, like on the PCs, it will depend on each situation. If you can keep folk at bay, near the edge of your optimal PC 8 range, then use the ability as a self defense option for when you get ambushed or snuck up on. If you are jumping into the fray, then use it to give you a few seconds of shield-less, weaponless, and helpless targets. RPGs are prolly pretty similar to the PCs as far as when to use the ability; it varies. MRs, for the most part, benefit from an aggressive approach, using the ability as mostly an offensive tool. LAs and RMs, defensive. I used Javs on mine for a bit... and it was mostly defensive use of the ability with them. However, for Jugs and Ares, if I was on the ball and could play the range game, I would use the ability to drop shields as soon as they got within 30m, then back up a little and hit them with the Javs. So much nicer to not have to strip the shield, first. It was actually on the same map as today's Tourney map iirc, and with all of those blind corners I was able to setup some great ambushes. I think you get the gist... but the main point is that you can make anything harmless within 30m in front of you for a few seconds... with the right weapons, that can let you fill the intended role of Tank Killer... dropping the Ares and Juggy shields and disabling their weapons lets you just dig into them with whatever weapons you have; but as you might imagine, the more burst, the better.

put Mech Arena in the title of your threads duke
I would hold off on getting the Guardian until you can get Pulse Cannon 8s or Missile Rack 8s

Agree with mechtout and that 5th slot isn't a priority. I didn't get my 5th slot until I unlocked the Zephyr. I've done juuuuuust fine.

I can’t even keep up with upgrading 4 regularly active mechs. I think I’d have stuck with 3 slots for much longer if I had to do it over again. As for Guardian, mine sits idle most of the time. I’m having more fun with my Killshot, Lancer, Juggy and Panther at the moment to want to swap any of them out, except for TDM maps and challenges.

I would only get the Guardian if you're gonna get the MR8 right away. This is a deadly combo and was my best mech for a long time. But, as soon as I got the Zephyr, I shelved my Guardian.
But, it's back for now cause I just picked up the RM12 and running it with Jav6 is a hoot.

You do not have to have a mech in each slot just because you unlocked the slot. Just take out the extra bots and focus on the three. Sometimes when I have a weird challenge to complete, I'll run just one bot to try and get the challenge done quicker. Had a challenge today that required 1 kill >100m away with a Killshot! Many maps do not even have sight lines that long. Ended up getting that done with a Rocket Mortar 12 on the Killshot.

Works great on Paragon as he can fall back or approach quickly with his ability.

KS is obv the best but I prefer MR8s on there so much that I hate to run it with anything else*. Para has so much EN and with the Boost ability, can come the closest to emulating the playstyle of the Jav KS. It's why I went ahead and R4-ed my Para well after I had "better" mechs to replace it. I don't run it all the time, but I do run it.
*That said, I am doing so now and have put Javs back on KS for a little bit, but that is mostly for testing out some hybrid MR 8 builds I am interested in.

I picked up a Guardian today, and I was wondering if this weapons package is good?

I picked up a Guardian today, and I was wondering if this weapons package is good? it's decent, but don't expect to be able to crash an opponent and kill him before he can fight back. R4 pulse 8's are noticeably better w/ the accuracy boost. Also, don't forget that Pulse's take a full 9s to unload. When you unlock carbine 8, those have 5s unload, and are excellent. Until then, play the Guardian conservatively. You can also consider MR6 or MR8.
