Is it worth levelling up the Guardian to Rank 4? Or is it better to wait for Zephyr instead?

I run both, each has their value. My Zephyr and Guardian are both close to going R5. In D1 against 2000+ opponents, I find it incredibly helpful to have both of these in hangar.
Having said that, if it is an either or decision for you, considering the pros and cons of each will help you decide. If I was choosing between the two, it would be Zephyr, because I enjoy it’s speed, and because the EMP can hit anyone within its blast radius (a sphere) surrounding you. While the System Crash of Guardian has its own special advantage, it only cripples opponents who are in front of you within LOS.
Even if the Zephyr is more appealing, unless you drop cash, that mech is a long way off for most people on the xp track. So, if you are someone on the xp track for Zeph, the Guardian is definitely a worthy mech for upgrading in the interim, for sure

I slapped on pulse 8's, and I wasn't too impressed with them, cuz they take 9s to unload, and depending on the opponent bot, that's just too long. I do have MR8's, but I run them on Ares. And I hate camping with RM8's.

punishingcossack, I will share my current considerations on the Guardian, I find: SNIPING - Longarms are not ideal because of exposure to counter strike - Stasis Beam and Thermal Lance: same as above but even more so because these require extended exposure The above builds are ideally equipped on Panther or Ares so you can safely expose for extended period to unload - Rocket Mortars are a good fit CQC - I agree, PC8s take too long to do their thing and lack sufficient accuracy at range, as far as the slower mobility of Guardian goes. PC8s are wicked on Killshot, Ares, and Panther. - MR8s are currently the most optimal, but I am effectively running MR6s on it at the moment. Don’t overexpose with Guardian; after crashing systems, back away as you fire so you can seek cover in case your MRs don’t finish off the opponent; more often than not, take advantage of max range and stagger-fire while saving system crash for opponents that close in. LONGTERM OBJECTIVE Personally, I intend to eventually run 2 Carbine12 on Guardian

Yes to this ^
I don't have the Zep yet, and won't for a while... but I intend to. Guardian def works for now.
Load-outs that I like... Dual setups: RMs, MRs, and Jav6s. Hybrid: RM 12 + Jav 6. Carb 8 and MR8.

I just find it annoying that AI bots run zep every match, while I'm 40k xp away from it myself
