Here's a tip for y'all:
So I was locked in a really close battle last night w/ someone for #1, and they were slightly ahead of me. With 2m left, I unfortunately had to play a 3rd game, and I realized that I wouldn't have time to drop into another match to try to win my heat.
I went for as many kills as possible, then closed the app w/ ~25 seconds left in the heat, and started a new match w/ 2 seconds to spare. Ended up winning the heat. If I hadn't done that, I'd have lost by 30 pts.
