Thought I would start this thread as I've picked up one or two tricks when playing CPC games.
First trick, I call the "SQUIRREL!" I used this when there is a large number of AI on both sides of a CPC game. It works in the Tourney too, but that's less about team play and more about KILL KILL KILL. As many of the veterans of this game will attest to, the AI hate anything that pilot that has a soul and breath. Many find this to be a problem and generally it is, but because it's predictable, you can use it. During the heated battles between AI that inevitably ensue (and usually determine games for you), if you show yourself, the AI will almost completely stop down what they're doing to shoot at you. This means your AI teammates will have an instant advantage as they are getting ideal angles on the enemy and can advance into ideal range for weapons. Exposing yourself, even for a short bit will sometimes be enough to turn the tide at critical junctions. Be careful though, LAs will still insta-kill you and any loaded MRs will be on you like white on rice. Ideal mechs for doing this are either fast, or have shielding. I use my Ares and Panther for this and also my KS. Also, keep in mind that it doesn't matter how far away you are, the enemy will still turn to you like you insulted his mother. Doesn't even matter that your teammate Zephyr is Carbining them into oblivion.
Second trick I'll call "Over Exposure". This happens when you shoot an enemy AI and he doesn't want to shoot you back. It only happens when they have direct fire weapons though as they won't fire unless they think they can hit you. The principle is based on hiding your CG (this is Center of Gravity or whatever it is that the enemy weapons will try to shoot). If your weapons are higher than your CG, you can use things like hills, breaks in the land, the tops of ramps, short obstacles, etc. to block your CG, but keep firing. My favorite mech for this is the Ares as it is tall and the weapons are almost as high as possible on the mech. When paired with the SB to slow down enemies, you can make bots take forever to climb a ramp on certain maps. It's a thing of beauty! Also works with the Panther. It's harder to achieve with shorter mechs and ones with low placed arms (like the Juggs). Still, the principle holds. This can also be combined with "SQUIRREL!" by moving front to back and exposing your CG to get the attention of the enemy AI then taking it away again. They don't know what to do. Glorious!
Anyway, hopefully these help you guys. Please list your own AI hacks and we can all do better against them!
