what does RP stand for in the post game results? What bearing does it have on anything in the game (XP, etc.)?

It's your division score. It's pretty moot because the MM is tied more to your total games and W/L ratio than division. The real MM doesn't really kick in until the 10,999 score in division 1.
It's only really important for your activity/victory tokens. After you're solidly in Div 1(30 gold tokens, 600 silver tokens) it stops being important.
