Oddly enough I confirmed just today that there's a light ECU and a medium ECU. Go figure. They both seem to have the same amount of hit points.
Hawks are sooooo squishy; what are your thoughts on ECUs?
Pros: Cheap to upgrade Seem to absorb a good amount of damage from all types of weapons The pilot skill for ECU health might make them fairly tanky. You may get to live again to use your "Crotch Beam o' Death"
Cons: Takes away from the output power of the Crotch Beam Fewer pew-pew weapons to brawl with

Now that that's out of the way, I'm hoping the thread can re-start with constructive input.

There isnt a light and medium ECU Same Shield can be used at a light or medium slot buuuuuut there is one for left side and another one for right side really, im not joking
ECU doesnt protect from rockets and flames at least it didnt last time i used one

I must've had the wrong side when I was trying to mount it on on Hawk. Fire/rockets, yep, you're right. Thanks for the reminder.

I had plenty of right-hand versions, but I had to purchase the left.

ANYWAY, an ecu can do a lot for a bot. My blitz now has one permanently stashed on its left side as I can run in with the resistance and get every once of use out of the time and then fall back using the ecu.
This is a big difference as before I only had about 5 seconds to attack people (9 second ability, 2 seconds to get in, 2 seconds to get out) I have 7 seconds to deal damage as the time I needed to escape has been moved outside the ability time.
Now sure, some might say that if they have splash then I will die after my ability anyway BUT now I can just do what I used to do if there are splash weapons. Basically I sprint in, attack and if I see a splash build then I run out with 2 seconds of ability time (like before the ecu) but if there aren't any splash weps then I can stay the extra 2 seconds.
This can easily carry over to hawk as you can remain closer if there aren't any splash builds but if there are then you must escape a bit earlier.

I run an ECU on my Icebomber Hawk partly because I only maxed out one rime before the nerf and partly because it actually really benefits from a shield. It's so squishy but the shield will deflect all the atomizer/nucleon/quarker shots coming my way these days. The hawk is almost impossible to land without either getting stuck on something or landing with the feet pointing the wrong way so it has helped me get to cover countless times

Thanks for the info!

so last night i was thinking of how adding ancile shields would do to a hawk... would people with energy weapons shoot at it because they know they can bypass the shield?? Would people with shieldbreaker activate their module and fire at the hawk? Would the beam do next to zero damage?? And lastly, how would people react to a flying ancile shield?? I don't need sleep, I need answers...

I don't think shieldbreaker works on the Hawk but I'm not 100% certain of that. Get some sleep.

I just thought I'd report back on the Hawk/ECU build. It's worthwhile but it IS a rock/paper/scissor build. I assume one gives up quite a bit of beam power when running tier 1 (or even tier 0?) ECUs, but my ECUs are maxed and I even maxed the pilot skill for them for plus 37.5% hit points. That's around 325k per ECU; not too shabby. They act as an emergency "oh poop!" that happens pretty often when you're in a Hawk.

There is a player in Legends that is running two Hawk’s and both have an ECU. Gave it a try myself. Came in handy but I went back to my Quarker. I think the increase in damage outweighs the benefit of the shield. Especially as I improve my landing spot selection. Of course that is really easy as I suck at it and get stuck a lot of the time!

Silly question maybe, but would the ECU block any suppression shots?
