Redfiend, crazy mad props to you for all the information. I just installed MA a few days ago and really enjoy it. Their main forum is terrible and the in-game information is very light. This forum is very important to MA players. I was an active player (and spender) in War Robots and left in April. Tired of the way Pix operates the game and now it’s so complicated the game is a joke. Does anyone know if MA is picking up on popularity? I would not have found it without seeing in the War Robots forum. I don’t want to get too involved and spend money if the game is struggling. In many aspects it seems like MA in startup mode, but it was released in January 2019. MA isn’t even listed on Plarium’s web site. Seems odd to me not to be on their website. There are many things in MA that are smart. Limiting the bots and weapons. Lots of combinations seems to work or at least they are fun. AI playing to keep you from waiting a long time for other players. And in many cases I’d rather have the AI on my team versus a tanker or someone way out of their league. I don’t understand why you have buy more battle tokens. Seems like they are charging you to play more than they want you to. Overall, having fun with the game. The information in the forum is extremely helpful. I hope the game picks up and the developers have more money to expand the game.

Don't quote me... but I believe that it is still in Beta and hasn't been fully released yet. So far, with that in mind, and judging by the increased activity in their Discord, I'd say it is still growing and will continue to as long as the Devs don't turn greedy (which I never fully trust that they won't... I mean, that company made RAID: Shadow Legends... so I keep my guard up.) Thing is, very little spending is needed to get gear, and so far from what I have seen, isn't a requirement to do well.
I'm not going to ever tell someone whether they should spend on a game or not... but I can say that I did. Less than a month or two worth of my old War Robots budget, and I have a HELL of a lot more to show for it.

I notice more Youtube streamer content, so i think the popularity is increasing. Many like the game, but there are some that don't. I see old War Robots heads join MA and then their accounts go dormant, but also see many that keep playing.
I think the tokens are there to restrict progression, because you could grind the the end game pretty quick if you are hard core. Don't worry, once you start really getting into tournament, there will be enough grinding/game play to fill your days. Plus the amount of tokens allowed per day increases as you move up in Divisions.

They’re calling it ‘open beta’, which I believe is the last step before officially going live. As you’ve seen, they’re still making some significant tweaks (buying blueprints for upgrades, and the just-announced custom controls, just for examples), and who knows what else they’ll add or adjust before flipping the switch. It’s already in pretty damn nice shape for a beta, though. As far as spending, from what I’ve seen, spending gives you more of a variety than a clear advantage over everybody else. There’s more of a difference in upgraded gear than in obtaining ‘higher level’ gear, which I find to be an interesting approach. Unlike War Robots, you can’t easily buy your way to the top. In other words, you can spend to maybe get gear that’s more fun for you to play, but it won’t automatically give you an overwhelming advantage.

It's picking up. Slowly but surely. They still haven't done a full global release, but I'm guessing once it gets localization and a pass to be released in most countries it'll go live.
Buying mid/late game gear only gives a temporary advantage, as the gear that starts at Blue/Purple/Gold are just a higher level at base than white/green gear. When white/green gear is upgraded to the same rank(number of stars) as those items, it performs just as competitively.
Don't buy battle tokens. Not until you're in the last division(division 1). Moving up is only beneficial short term because the AI gets stronger over time. If you rush by grinding, you'll end up fighting gear at levels you aren't going to reach for awhile. When you're in earlier divisions, it's better to just keep track of how close you are to a promotion. If you only need 1-2 games to get promoted, do that and get the auto-fill from the promotion.
The better investment is the 100 coins for the token booster found in the premium tab of the shop. The booster is a pool of extra tokens that pay out what you earned in the match from the pool. Ex: You won 100 tokens, the Booster adds 100 from it's pool.
These are the best because it's always 100 coins for 10 silver crates. If you look at the other bulk crates, the booster trumps the exchange rate on all of them.
Spending money isn't necessary. Just skips you forward a little bit. If you are going to spend the best deals are:
$3 Ares+ 2x Pulse 6 $5 Guardian $6 Shadow $3 Javelin 6 $15 Missile Rack And $5 500 coins+ Professional crate(Weekly deal)

ⓣⓡⓘⓒⓚⓨ48 and mechtout, thanks for the information. I can see this being something like an early release. I like what they have done so far and would like to think it will only get better. The game has great potential. War Robots could have been much bigger if run better. I am not in a hurry to grind to the top. I like to toss in a few bucks to help support the developers if I have fun with the game. I am reading the forum and testing different builds. It's nice there is flexibility and I have fun trying different loadouts. Redfiend thanks for the tips on what to buy and battle tokens.

Something I find a bit telling as far as community popularity is concerned, is despite some buzz about other mech games like Battle of Titans or Robot Warfare, Mech Arena has drawn a lot more active interest, as this section of the War Robots Forum is clear evidence of. I was very proactive with BoT before those devs made a bunch of massive pr mistakes that destroyed the BoT community, and despite my work and encouragement, the interest never really seemed to take off like MA has here. We’ll see how it goes, but so far so good.

It tried to lean too heavily into mecha-sim instead of arena brawler. While admirable, the balancing/upgrading was meh, and the sim-like features that set it apart from other games are kind of what makes it feel bad to actually play.

I was never able to put my finger on it, but BoT just ended up being not very much fun to play. But I think you hit it, they put more effort into the sim aspect and not enough into fun game play.

PvE utilizing progressively harder waves would fix my itch for that game. Let me play the 100 games or so to get acclimated to everything when it isn't against an effed up MM (unless that's gotten better...)
I say that precisely because of the Sim aspects... I like the detail, but it's a bit of a PITA to deal with on a mobile. If I could emulate I'd be cool with it... but... as it is... MA is where I hung my hat.
