Trying to relax and watch a ?fluffernutter?ing college football game, and it’s nothing but ?fluffernutter?ing commercials. Switch to another channel, more ?fluffernutter?ing commercials. Every ?fluffernutter?ing channel plays more ?fluffernutter?ing commercials than the ?fluffernutter?ing show. And they’re all the same annoying ?dookie? being spammed every five ?fluffernutter?ing minutes. I have had it. And I’m paying $240 a month for it. ?fluffernutter? THAT. About one more miserable night away from canceling cable. ALL of it. I’m sick of it.

Remember when cable was the answer to annoying commercials?

Remember when cable was the answer to annoying commercials? To be honest, no. When cable was first getting rolled out, I lived in a very rural area that didn’t get it. In fact now 25 years later, I still don’t think that town has it. Once I did finally get it, that no-commercial thing was a distant memory. ?fluffernutter? the networks, ?fluffernutter? the cable companies, ?fluffernutter? the cable channels (ESPECIALLY the Discovery family and their super annoying nonstop parades of human crap like TLC that I don’t give two ?dookie?s about yet get slammed in my face every 5 minutes), ?fluffernutter? them all. Do you remember the show Max Headroom? A running theme was that TV’s were everywhere and you couldn’t turn them off, because everybody HAD to watch all those commercials that played almost nonstop. I feel like that’s exactly where we’re headed.

Paying to watch TV was never something I could justify. Maybe PBS, by donation because they had quality programming like the Joy of Painting

Drop cable and sign up for Netflix, Hulu, Disney+, HBO Max, Apple TV, Amazon Video. No commercials, on demand, cheaper.

Sport and news are the two main ad earners for tv due to the gotta watch live scenario.
They have you my your privates.
American Football was also altered to make more stop start so they could make it more attractive for tv ad revenue.

I have Netflix ... wife watches it all the time, but none of the garbage she watches interests me in the least. I tried Hulu and Apple TV. I know everybody raves about cutting the cord, but those services just don’t work for me. I go in looking for something to watch, and my head explodes with the nonsensical flood of random crap I have to wade through to find something that looks remotely interesting, which I never do because I end up shutting it off in frustration. In fact just thinking about that mess makes me cringe. And after I subscribe to all the stuff I would actually want to watch, it’s not all that much cheaper, not to mention a general hassle to use compared to the simplicity of the cable box (turns out my ‘smart’ tv isn’t all that smart). With cable, I can do everything with one remote; not so with any of the other solutions. Worst if all is that stupid Apple remote that either gets lost every time you sneeze, or you can’t pick it up without touching something on it that you don’t want to. I hated Apple TV, returned it after 2 days, and I’m otherwise an exclusively Apple device user.

About sports: I don't know if they're just available in Europe, but DAZN (10 bucks per month, no contract) really does the job for me. Good video quality and about 8000 live events in one year.
About finding stuff: I found it incredibly overwhelming when I, for the first time, had a look at what Amazon and Netflix have in their streaming catalogue. But now I just select one film or show I know I like and then test drive the suggestions I get. Works for me.
I haven't watched regular broadcast television for about six years now and I don't miss one thing. ?fluffernutter? ads.

I was introduced to Red Dwarf a few years ago. Great show! I liked to watch This Old House and the Yankee Workshop. Sometimes I'd catch the British flicks or mysteries. I still watch Bob Ross on youtube occasionally. I just found out that there are thousands of his paintings just sitting in boxes at his estate.

Danny LinguiniI feel your pain. EVERY time I patch together the cord that I cut and watch "live" cable I feel absolutely inundated by commercials. And then I cut the cord again. I don't think I'll ever try again. I miss watching NFL and racing but I just can't bear the commercials.

I don't think I'll ever try again. I miss watching NFL and racing but I just can't bear the commercials. So how do you make the cut? How do you wade through screen after screen of garbage in any given streaming app to find something worth watching? I’ve tried a couple of times, and I just get so overwhelmed with the endless parade of junk, I end up turning it off and watching nothing. Like right now, except this time it was nonstop moronic commercials on every ?fluffernutter?ing channel that made me shut it off before I threw the remote through my flatscreen. Drugs, human rubbish on TLC, more drugs, more human rubbish, car insurance, more drugs, more human rubbish. Oh yeah, and letâ??s not forget everybody making their mark in â??these trying timesâ??. ?fluffernutter? all of it.

My wife is good at googling for things like “best of Netflix”. We just watched “Derry Girls” which is piss your pants funny. Or wear a diaper. Your choice.

Yeah, using the streaming apps themselves to find shows is often not the best. What [CK]erazor said about selecting a show you like and seeing the suggestions is better. But internet searches find me half the shows I watch. And there’s sites that list recently added and upcoming shows. Think of the apps like the TV and internet searches like the TV Guide of yore. I’m sure you remember TV Guide Danny Linguini Haven’t watched commercial TV in... ages. Usually at family holidays some will play and I actually find it fascinating because it’s so novel to me now. While my dad watches Big Bang Theory I watch the ads lol. The one place I will watch commercial TV on my own is my internet comes with a few broadcast channels and I’ll very occasionally watch Seinfeld. It’s so cute to have to tune in at 10pm, break on commercials, and no pause or rewind. Like I’m 10 years old again! Really it’s the having to tune in on their schedule that’s the most ludicrous to me now. Oh, I just remembered, get a DVR! Record your shows, watch them after, and skip the commercials. That’s what my sister does and I don’t see ads when I stay with her.
