What I’m seeing Guardian mainly used for is Mortars, but also Longarms. I did some Longarm and it is quite clear to me that Longarms are better equipped on mechs like Ares or Panther. The use of energy barriers allows for you to have prolonged exposure, giving you plenty of time to line up shots and let them fly.
With Guardian I found that other Longarm users could easily take you out due to having no shielding. So I equipped Rpgs as well as Pulse Cannons and these brawl weapons seem to be the optimal use of Guardian, allowing you to help your team by using System Crash in CQC.

I keep RPGs on mine. It'll get missile rack 8 when I cross that bridge. Since it's basically a dead duck when it's ability isn't live, it's best to minimize exposure. Paragon at least has it's dash to quickly reposition lanes and make the most of the Long Arm's up/down time. I find keeping sights aimed at corners, like laning in other shooters, is one of the best practices for getting quality damage in with them. Timing> tracking, and map knowledge(knowing where to point to be on point when peeking) beats them both. Especially against the quick little buggers, I see a lot of rank 3-4 Shadows and Killshots in my MM pool. They need to die as quickly as possible, and Paragon brings snipes to lanes faster than the other bots by a long shot.

Missile rack gets used a lot. Guardian hides behind a wall, someone goes over to kill him, Guard pops emp and fires missiles into the face. Game over for the other player.
But, yeah, lots of mortars around.
