SHADOW No, not on the wall or behind a curtain. Shadow is the ‘Stalker’ of Mech Arena. Excellent for beacon thieving, and it’s very quick and agile so you can outmaneuver enemies chasing you, as well as dodge a lot of incoming fire. Because it has light armor, it is not a brute for frontal assaults. Currently using Jav Rack4, but I can see Pulse Cannon4 (like Shredders) being handy, maybe the Plasma Cannon4. During stealth, although enemy loses lock on, they can still hit you with certain weapons by keeping their reticle on you; it isn’t LOS invisibility or invincibility, so be careful. It does however cause your radar signature to disappear, so this makes well for sneaking around for positioning or beacons. In the game Modern Combat Versus, one class of agents is called Assassins. They recommend assassins take alternate routes to surprise enemies from behind or flanks. I suggest Shadow be used the same. Even using the Javs, although you’d generally do better with Pulse Cannons or similar in fighting for a beacon, because you are nimble and quick you can evade during reloads and fire around corners or over obstructions, which is one reasons I highly recommend stagger firing the Javs, which are an excellent weapon for Shadow for the same reasons it works so well on Killshot.

Just discovered Pulse Cannon4 are a really good fit for Shadow Shadow is the only light bot made for direct fire weapons. Javelins are better on things like Killshot, MD and Lancer. Plasma 4s are the best burst it can put out unless you strap a single missile rack 8 on it, or Plasma/missile rack at 10 energy and 2 missile rack 6 at 5?. It's basically the best bot to flank the front to hunt Javelin and Mortar throwers that may stop your squad from pushing the line.

Still, direct confrontation with Shadow is a hit or miss...literally. I think I prefer my Shadow with Javelins.

I just put Javs on mine... had been running Shotties, for about a week, to see if they were as bad as everyone said they were... and yes, can confirm. Will try out Pulse 4s after Javs and see what works better for me... I expect Pulse Cannon will be more rewarding though... and not having to worry about the ceiling blocking your shots will open up opportunities that the Javs don't have. For now, I don't have any other bots running Javs even though I do well with them... because tournament. Most maps aren't that good for them when everyone is grouped up under cover.

It's got it's own strengths and weaknesses. Ducking the radar lets it duck Javelins and Rocket mortars. Since stealth hides it from all radar and targeting(instead of a stupid colored symbol over it's head), there's no way for human players to tell if that stealthed Shadow is friend or foe if it wasn't already detected before going into stealth. AI takes most of the fun out of it because agressive AI snipers are no joke, and it has the lowest health in the game. I wouldn't be a fan of it with Javelins, because the main purpose of it is to kill other Shadows, run up under the Javelin/mortar thrower, or steal beacons. For offensive point-man work, Killshot is king.

There's 3 map rotations. Last weeks(the containers) the week before(Hallways and multi-platform arenas) and a super open/long distance rotation. The rotation starting tomorrow should be sniper and Javelin city.

(for tourney play I mostly stick with Panther and Killshot with MR 8 and 6, respectively... they just own folk.)

I will try it for that tourney map though... maybe put those missiles on the Guardian, instead.

Still, direct confrontation with Shadow is a hit or miss...literally. I think I prefer my Shadow with Javelins. It plays very much like the Shredder Pursuer, even the movement mechanics. I do get what you’re saying, and I’m learning that direct fire weapons are more ideally used to flank shot whether in stealth or not, distracted enemies, as well as ambushing from behind. I’ve also noticed that of all the weapons, Plasma does really well at continuing to hit stealthed Shadow. And, if someone with Jav or Mort locked and fired just prior to you entering stealth, they can still hit you. Javs are fun, but I definitely feel Pulse Cannon are optimal

Missile Rack on the Guardian is friggin amazing. The Missile Rack has good range, but they also do well at short range too. In Tournament, on those brawling types of maps, it becomes a great ambush bot. One salvo from one MR is usually enough to kill or cripple most bots, so I usually fire them one at a time.

ⓣⓡⓘⓒⓚⓨ48 with the long sightlines maps, brawling is cordoned off to small areas, stragglers tend to lose their heads. Guardian with Missile rack is the only way to chew through the herd of Jugs that are going to push for control of the CQC areas.

Just discovered Pulse Cannon4 are a really good fit for Shadow Great tip. I just bought a Shadow a couple days ago. I read this and and while I don't own Pulse 4s, it made me realize I have Autocannon 4s and an AC challenge task today that I hadn't yet bothered with. Slapped the ACs on my Shadow and completed it pretty easily. It's nice to finally have a bot that is a good platform for those, since AC challenges always keep popping up.

Autocannons are super accurate compared to pulse cannons. They have the same accuracy as R5 pulses. So you can either upgrade the Autos or buy the Pulse 4. Given the credit cost on the pulse, you might be better off upgrading the autos to 4.7 instead of the initial investment and same credit/coin cost to get the Pulse 4 to that level.
