I see a mix of aphid/Orkan and pinata/Orkans in general and certainly in the legendary league.
Is there a major difference between the two? is one better? Which would you pick if you only had 1 set of orkans?

Pinatas/Orks (DB) allow you to kill something outright most of the time. The issue is (1) line of sight required, (2) after you unleash, you are very vulnerable, and (3) Pinata reload is slow. So this build is best run hitting and then hiding, and hopefully then getting to hit again.
Aphid/Ork allows you to stay at longer range, behind cover, and lob aphids in. Then when the red has half health (or if he insists on closing range and finding you), you clean up with the Orks. Aphids have a nice fast reload of 10s. Great build on powerplant or center bowl of DC, where line of sight is difficult to achieve and cover is ample.
So its really a playstyle thing in my opinion. I prefer Aphid/Ork personally, but I am not great with either build, as I usually run out of ammo and forget the "seek cover" part. Hope that helps.
Cheers.

aphids are ideal at level 12 with the new mm just because a lot of the salvo will miss, and we are facing higher bots. haven't upgraded mine to level 12 yet, but i imagine an aphid/orkan griff would be a good counter to an ancilot. huge splash area to take out the ancile and orkans to attack the lance. i currently run pinatas at the moment until then.

Aphids are for defensive Griffin piloting. Pinatas are for offensive and only defensive if you are fighting less than 2 enemies. You can use Aphid Orkan Griffin for flanking and offensive style but it usually won't work well.

To expand slightly - because aphid/orkan (stuka) griffs are a wear-them-down-finish-them-off build, while pinata/orkan (DB) griffs are a sunday punch build. All about your preferred style.

I like the Orkans so much I took them off my Lance!! I now run a db & Stuka Griffin. The db is stright up offensive The Stuja is more multi purpose, I open with it or my Galahad.
Really liking having both. I am sacrificing my Lancelot because I do not have an Ancile. But I do prefer running the Griffins more overall.

I switched often between the 2, but whenever I was in pure db mode I'd miss my aphids, even going so far as outright forgetting what build I had, jump and shoot a pointless volley of pinatas. I'm currently running 2 stuka builds and really don't mind my pinatas being sidelined.

I am exactly the same as Thunderkiss. Keep going back to 2 X Stuka Griffin.

For a one shot kill pinatas all the way, however I find the aphid build far more flexible, and survives longer (that may just be me, can get carried away with DB). Having tried both builds extensively I have settled into using aphids regularly and pinatas seldom.

Uh... Aphids do more damage than Pinatas so the only real advantage Pinatas has is they bypass physical shields. I love the Stukka build myself as it basically does what the DB does but with way more flexibility on the field.

This just in: Piñata is going to fire on reload like Orkan...changes things a bit....The RDB and the DB might just be in style again.

I use aphids and prefer them over pinata. It is easier to fire aphids individually to takeout Anciles before hitting with the orkans. This is particularly useful against carnage and ancilot.

Until then, +1 Aphids for all the reasons listed above. My opinion might change if Piñatas get the buff.

Aphids Orkan Griffin = Stalker behind build + weaker version of DB. But Aphids has 10s cooldown, you have more chance to fire it again.

AO Griffin x2 , my reasons are 2 fold. 1) Better utility and options. 2) best counter for those rocket dodger Gareths. They can run back away from a DB volly, but can not run back away from aphids. If they run left or right to avoid the aphids, they get orkan splash.

If they go through with the changes to pinatas and pins I'll likely run one of each. Seems really strong.

I really liked the facemelter DB grif. The aphid grif just felt too slow for me. It takes quite a few volleys to wear the opponent down before going for the kill. With the DB I can take down a bot every time I pop out. It is really powerful when played aggressively.
