I was just playing Yama. I was on the bridge with a red in range on the bridge in front of me. There was another red under the bridge who was closer but I couldn't shoot. It locked on the red under the bridge. Usually I can just move to the side and break the lock then pick a new one. Because the bridge is so narrow I couldn't move enough to break the lock. I've seen this happen in other spots on other maps too and still haven't figured out how to deal with this.
What would you do in this situation?

You can swipe across the screen to look in another direction without having the bot moves, that should break the lock. Does that work?

I tried but it didn't work. It would lock on the nearer one again.

That was harsh.. If that's the case you have 2 options. Either: 1/ Jump off the bridge and man fight the guy under the bridge. 2/ Walk past the guy under the bridge, facing the bot on the bridge, right at the moment you walk past the guy under bridge the lock should be break and re-lock the right target. Still annoying though.

I tried but it didn't work. It would lock on the nearer one again. You can manually select target by pressing button under firebutton. Each press will select new target so press it until target you want is locked (doubleline red box). (hope that I understand your problem)

In this particular instance jumping down or running past wasn't a good option. Jumping down would have exposed me to fire the bridge was blocking. I had just enough HP to take the far red (with a Thunder...so I wasn't getting closer). I guess there is too many variables to really answer this.
I ended up jumping down, killing the first one, getting bogged down, missing the beacon and losing.

Ive had the same issue with my Zeus. Locks onto the wrong target last second when I shoot.(chooses to hit a red hiding out behind a wall..)

Lock-on function folks. Turn it on, enjoy.

Uhm... are you guys all playing with standard targeting? Switch on the lock on function. Learning to use this one aditional tappable area will increase your overall efficency massively!

Bdsisrael, pressing the lock on button will target the closest person, all you have to do is press the button again to target the next closest person. Simple

Lock-On function, always. Can't play without them. The target switching is too sensitive and plus its range dependent, it flies and target the nearest to you, a nightmare for mid-range bots.

Was a target "selected" or "locked"? (My own definitions) if the target was just selected (Thin, red targeting reticle) then it could end up switching it's target. If you manually lock on the target (Thick, red targeting reticle) then it will remain locked until you manually select a different target lock or you target leaves your HUD.

Center beacon Yamatau is terrible for targeting. In fact sometimes people hangout underneath to deliberately throw off your targeting. Not much you can do but rifle through the targeting button to move to the bot you want to hit. Not easy and more often times than not you'll be toast by the time you get it.

Sorry if I am jacking the thread
As far as targeting goes, what about locking w Orkans/Pinatas on my griffin: *I wasnt always using the target lock, but I am now: Yamatau - shooting into air/ side of incline off the center beacon? with the lock on. Springfield - coming across valley I am shooting the wall 1/2 the time!?!
Am I locking then shooting to quickly? I try to look to see if Orkan is angled but really hard to tell on my phone!
Any other tips for locking w Rockets?
