In some parts of the world, Easter is knocking on our doors, while in other parts of the world everyone is on lockdown, somewhere it's pretty hard to get groceries as I understand.
So to make Easter awesome for some, and having freshly baked bread for most, I'm gonna share where I got with previous years of trials and misses in making a proper homemade bread. I'm trying hard with this stuff, I'd like to make a tradition out of it in my family. They love this bread a lot btw, or so they say lol.
Skill lvl needed is pretty low and ingredients are cheap, no p2w here, just follow simple instructions. I got pretty confused using metric imperial converter, so please pardon any boo-boos I made there, metric is exact, imperial should be, idk, gave it my best... use metric for best results.
Ready, set, let's bake!
Ingredients needed
Dry yeast 7g - 0.25 oz
Water 3dl - 0.08 gallons us
Flour 500g - 17.5 oz
Salt 5 pinches
Oil 5 tablespoons
Sugar 1 teaspoon
Firstly, use a bigger glass with 3dl of warm water, put yeast and sugar in it, mix it and leave it to rest for 15 minutes. Sugar and warm water will help the yeast to do it's thing, you know, grow.
Put 400g of flour, 5 pinches of salt and 5 tablespoons of oil into a large bowl.
Now it's time for first "wet" mix. Pour your water yeast sugar mixture in your bowl. Use only one hand to stir it up well, you'll need your other hand clean for the next step. When the wet mix is done it should be really soft and should stick on everything.
Now use your clean hand to add the rest of your flour little by little and your other hand to mix it strongly. When you manage to form a ball out of it, put it on a straight surface, continue to add flour a little by little and really get into it with both of your hands.
Continue doing this until it isn't really sticky. It should still be soft and fluffy.
Oil up your baking sheet, add some flour onto it, and punch in on the sides so flour would cover an entire surface of the sheet. This will help your bread to grow without resistance, and will prevent it from sticking.
Make a desired shape for your pastry and cover it on all sides with some flour.
Get your owen to 30°C - 86F and turn it off. Put your soon to be bread inside and give it 20 minutes to grow.
With bread inside, just turn on your owen to 190°C - 374F and bake it for 35 minutes.
Ta-daaa!
Your bread is almost done, only one final trick. Turn your bread upside down, cover it with soaked cloth and put it back into your owen for 5 more minutes. Turning it around will make it look beautiful, and the moisture from the cloth will make it soft.
Take it out and leave it covered until it cools down, store it in plastic bag so it would keep it's freshness for a couple of days.
Enjoy my dudes and dudetes
