So you're running around like loose cannon on Dead City, knife fighting your way to a hefty pot of gold when snipers camping in the overpass ruins bring you sudden grief as you Stroll gleefully down the avenue in search of your next victim.
Bang!!! You take a bolt of lightning straight to the head from a matching pair of Zeus!!! ---Ouch!!!!
Bang!!! Triple Trebs Fury got you bad! Nothing like a massive triple-decker bolt of plasma straight to the mouth from 900 meters to get the day started. ---Yikes!!!!
Nashorns, Kang Daes, Gekkos, Noricums, Zenits, Hydras, Spirals...It doesn't matter...Let them come. They will all be eating toast from the tip of your barrel in due time.
Ultimate Camper Payback
As your loathsome foe rests comfortably in their lofty vantage point picking you apart through the red square of their scope, they will never see you coming if you follow my lead.
- First you're going to need a faithful Gareth, preferably armed with plasma (Taran/Mag) but rocket builds (Orch/Pin) can work too. Other builds, may not be as effective but try if you're daring enough, you've got no promises coming from over here though. The task at hand is tricky, and requires patience and skill.
- Take the avenue toward the mark camping in the sniper position of the ruin overpass. Shields up if they see you coming! Full sprint if they have their sights set on your teammates. Be careful of enemy fire from the side streets on the left. Run on the far right side of the avenue closest to the map's borders in order to maximize distance between you an would-be plot foilers from the left side. Take the angle behind the final barricade while running for added side protection as you approach the ruin overpass from the far right corner.
- The next part is tricky. Let me explain. There are two layouts of the ruin overpass and this is critical so pay close attention. One layout has a straight ramp in the corner that nearly any bot can walk up with no problem (more on this later). The other has a walled corner that only certain bots including jumpers, Gareths, and Stalkers can reach (more on this later too). If your ruin is at Beacon D then you have the walled-corner ramp and the enemy has the open-platform ramp, this will be easier. If your ruin is at Beacon B then vice versa and it will be a slightly greater challenge the first few times. If the enemy is parked atop the open-corner ruin, run to the corner and walk up the ramp of the overpass along the outer wall of the ruin. You will likely get stuck while moving up the wall, in this case, turn slightly to the left while running forward along the top of the ruin wall until you regain motion, but be sure not to fall off the edge, and turn back straight as soon as you start moving again. Keep your shield up to block any shots from the mark and start shooting as soon as you have the open shot, because they could have help on the way at any moment. (But chances are few players will notice what you just did and they will be helpless at your mercy, of which you will offer them none!!!! HAHAHA!!!!). On the walled ramp at Beacon D the process is virtually the same, you simply have to run to the corner and run into the wall and turn left. You will gain traction and begin running up the wall with relative ease. If not, try again. It takes a little practice to get right. If you fall early and get stuck inside the walls with your legs dangling try turning your turret, and open and close your shield to finagle your way to the ruin platform. But be sure to minimize exposure in the process and if you're stuck just keep shooting till the mark is dead. When you get inside the walls the enemy will likely be fleeing down the opposite ruin ramp and you will have taken the enemy beacon. Try to stay out of the sniper gap, behind the cover of the walls to avoid enemy fire from below. (Note. This trick will likely not work if the mark is armed with Tridents)
The open-corner ramp wall at Beacon B is traversable by other bots including Galahad, Boa, Leo, Natasha etc. But it is probably best to limit this attack strategy to the shielded Brit Bots in most cases for sake of the fact that unless the mark is shooting Hydras and Spirals or Zenits and Noricums, you become an easy target once you make it up the ramp.
I have only ever made it up the walled-corner ramp at Beacon D with a Gary and a Stalker, but again, stalker has no shield for protection. It may, however, be possible for other bots to make it up. Let me know in the responses of this thread if anyone does. I have tried and failed on several occasions, much to my dismay, in a Galahad. I may have done it in a Leo once, but good luck getting that slow motion machine into position to perform this trick.
The benefit of this entire strategy is not only the maneuverability in gaining the position advantage against the mark with your shielded bot within the cover of the ruin, but it is also that once you turn to the far corner, the enemy will have little inclination to perceive you as a threat and will likely drop their guard. The psychological impact of the element of surprise when they see you run up the wall guns blazing in their grill is priceless. Also, unlike stealing the enemy beacon on Yamantau or Canyon, you can hold this beacon for quite some time because you are firmly concealed in a vantage point that up until a few seconds prior, only enemy bots had any hope of making it to alive.
Also be careful of plot foiler's strategies. Supporting bots will attempt to prevent you taking the beacon by standing at the center base of the ruin. They will shoot at you with whatever they have, and you might not survive if they have too many rockets. Be extra careful of smart foes who will go to the far ramp where you entered the ruin and shoot you in the back from the gaps between the walls. Also, once you take the mark out and have the beacon be prepared for the backlash, because you will have one pissed enemy coming for revenge for what you just did, and you are now parked right near the enemy spawn point.
If you are brave, if you are valiant, if you are patient, and you operate with skill and cunning, then this trick is for you, and it will prove successful more often than not.
I have personally turned the tide and won many battles as a result of having successfully executed the above stated strategy. And the satisfaction to be had from peeling the sheet metal off the rear-end of those lousy campers is unimaginable. There is nothing that a broken matchmaker can do to take away this joy once it is achieved. So try it out! Thank me later! And remember, Revenge is a dish best served cold!
