... it broke the score-card! (On a serious note, sometimes I get huge amounts of lag. Is it just me, or does it happen to everyone?)

They often mention server overload incidents, such as bringing down the initial leagues on debut and now only doing certain calculations weekly ("To take some load off servers' shoulders activity points will now be updated once a week").
In the old days, over-loaded game servers would cause lag (I remember big battles on Dark Age Of Camelot would crash the server), but isn't everything run in the cloud now? Can't they scale rapidly to account for server load?
