I'm just curious, what do you guys do if someone like a heavy bot is at the center beacon of Shenzhen, and a Stalker with Mags swings by and hits you. Let's say you have a Russian DB. Would you attack the Heavy, which is the greatest threat, or the Stalker, which is bugging you. I was playing on Shenzhen, and by whole team chased a Gareth down. Every red charges the middle, and my mid range bot couldn't hold off all of them. They blow me to bits, and cap the mid beacon and one side beacon. We basically had one beacon, and we got our beacon bar drained so bad. We obviously lost. Even the Gareth than got chased by mediums and heavies killed two of the five bots chasing it, and escaped. So the final question is, how do you prioritize targets? I normally try to focus on knife fighter bots, or heavies.

Heavy..the Stalker is Nuisance. Stalker pilot wants you to chase him first. I would say a bait master took your team for a walk. You were "master baited". Master baiting is a fine art when done right...It takes a careful hand. A master baiter can lead one to tunnel vision and blindness..
Never let master baiting take over your game!

In the league system, most randoms pick the target that will count for the most damage points while exposing themselves to the least incoming fire in the process. Your discussion of "beacons" is irrelevant because finishing top 2 in damage has become more important than silly things like "winning" or "losing."
In reality, it's a complicated decision. Does the heavy have a physical or ancile shield, and what are my weapons compared to those of my teammates? Have my teammates emptied their weapons recently, and which targets do my teammates' current firing angles better support hitting? How much health is left on each red, and how many red weapons could I potentially take out with my next salvo? Where is the stalker on his stealth timer? Etc, etc... too many variables left undefined in a situation where context is everything.
I will say that an RDB is the ideal loadout for killing a Gareth, so it's possible that (in the situation you described) if you had taken him out first then your teammates might have focused their fire on the heavy instead of being drawn into the enemy's kill box.

I guess it kind of matters if your team is down beacons, and the bar is low. I would ignore the stalker if it's not really hurting me and head for the heavy. Hopefully someone else on your team get's their mind right and comes to help.

Depends on a lot of factors: Where my team is, what the other enemies are doing, how many beacons we have, what 'mech I'm piloting, whether the Stalker has moved on to harass other team-members, etc.
Your scenario doesn't present enough information for me to give a straightforward answer. Is the heavy alone? What kind of 'mech is it? How many beacons do we as a team have? Are we being pushed really hard, or did we just wipe out 3 of their team and their numbers are down while the destroyed are choosing new 'mechs?
There's always a lot at play.

One factor no one has mentioned is that if the stalker is lower health, put him out. U can hammer on the heavy for a long time without affecting nearby red firepower, but if u can silence that stalker quickly, u immediately remove that threat from the battlefield, and then while u kill the heavy u don't have a pesky bot shooting u. If u do it other way around, maybe u get some good damage on the heavy, but then u get killed in the process, and the master baiter lived to tell the tale and goes to master bait your whole team! Sometimes u need to out that dirty s1u4 quick or you'll b getting master baited by a bot that literally just got done master baiting your squad mate. Ew! You don't know where that kind of robot has been

Do you know the psychological damage it does to a Stalker pilot when you pretend he does not exist? Even when he's bouncing around trying really hard to be noticed.. Devastating..just utterly devastating. Its a million deaths all at once. All he wanted was a moment of your time...And you gotta be a cold hearted, self centered, 「cotton headed ninny muggins」...

Which is why I leveled my piñatas all the way to 9 and have 2 of them on my stalker. I also like to unload them at point blank range against shield bots to show the futility of the back pedal trick.
Do I have your attention now?

Some great points made here.... but the correct answer is you always kill the stalker. If you don't, the word gets out in stalker land that you can't handle yourself, and for the rest of your War Robots life, stalkers will be picking on you.

I usually try to eliminate the biggest threat to my team. For instance, if I'm on the bridge on Yamantao and have the chance to take out either a red at CB or a mid-ranger further ahead that's taking pot shots at my team, then I take the midranger first.
In your example, the griff is perfect for an RDB loadout; despite it's long reload, the bot can shoot and then jump to safety while weapons charge. So in that scenario, I'd engage the heavy and jump over the wall; by the time the stalker comes around, at least your pins will have reloaded. Engaging an uncloaked stalker is futile in this example since the second your turret turns toward him, he will go stealth.
Now, when faced with several opponents, I choose the most dangerous bot to my teammates and focus my last efforts on him. But you should never engage if you have no way out unless you're in a suicide bot. It's sort of like pool/billiard: It's not just about getting the ball in the pocket but setting yourself up for the next shot.

should've gone for the gareth, otherwise i'd have gone for the stalker. Why? i'll always attack the one i'm most suited to do damage on. if i have splash, i choose the closest shielded enemy. if i have plasma, i choose something with an ancile shield. If there are two, i go for the weakest one because a bot with only 1,000 HP left, 2 aphids and an orkan can ruin your day. finishing that guy off if more important than causing slightly more damage on another bot
Cheers,

Damn, this is so true. its not a game anymore, it's not a squad based game. It's 6 guys, some who'll jump into your line of fire to block your shots and make theirs. No cooperation. And in the event your hangar isn't missile griffs (diamond 1) you can't get enough damage so when you win you ar e+ 3 and when you lose, you lose big -20 Game seriously sucks now as pix is trying get make me hate the game so back i give them real money to fix their "Rebalance" err, nerf of previous hangers to generate revenue. I just bought a carnage tonight with WSP. I'm going to buy f'n tridents or something else ranged so i can actually get in range of something that's not a 1 shot griff missileboat.

It should always be the biggest threat first. Threat is not a black and white measurement the stalker could steal home beacon and ruin your odds of winning, the heavy could be a fury preventing advancement on Centre beacon.

And if I got a couple thunders, I go for the bot who's shooting someone else. Especially at close range, they usually stop to fire at me since I'm the bigger threat, only to watch me duck behind cover while my ally finishes them off. Well, at least that's the idea. It doesn't work out that way usually.

If you can finish off the heavy, do it. But if it has full health, you have to get the guy closest to you. You have a double team in your hands if you don't take care of one of them; the intelligent thing to do is to kill the weakest one and easily available to you.
As for your teammates, there's nothing you can do about them. They are either lacking in awareness or are playing emotionally. Do what you have to, and that's to protect that last beacon then attempt to assault a red beacon.
[edit] The Gareth? Why? His whole team is going after it. There's an immediate threat on the beacon and immediate threat to his bot. The Garrett should not be the priority.
I've seen this happen where a teamate gives away a double team to shoot someone that's not a threat. It doesn't make sense to me.

While it depends on situation, chances are the stalker first. Don't underestimate their capability to cap beacons.
As for the heavy, chances are it won't survive anyway. That centre beacon can be recaptured.
As I said depends on timing/situation.
