So I was on the test server last week and trying out new builds for Fenrir since it's my favorite bot. I know many people complain about it being a green machine eater, which I can agree to some extent. However, if used correctly, it can be a game changer.
So after a few tweaks and turns vs Meta bots on the test server, I have come up with an Ideal Fenrir survival Tank DPS build that can hand with some of the best (note: the test server has a level 8 cap on everything, so I can't tell you if it's a viable at MK2.)
So I found that Igniter and Glacier is a pretty good combo and can be devastating if used correctly. This Fenrir build is NOT a TFalcon, do not expect a 4v1 with Fenrir and win (you can take 2-3 ppl with you but you will die). This is a Tanky DPS that focus on quick strike kills but with enough armor to avoid being melted like the other Meta bots.
Weapons:
Glacier can slow down a bots movement and even freeze them on the spot. Igniter can ignore shields and do alot of damage. On the test servers, Glacier was basically the lockdown weapon for me. I was able to consistently get rampage and godlike with this build. On the Live servers, I use Corona and Ember to lockdown and burn opponents. Its an Effective build, but if Glacier was released as is, then I would prefer the Glacier over dual Corona guns for slowdown and chance for freeze the reds.
Passive Modules:
-Thermonuclear Reactor X2
-Last Stand
Optional:
-Anti-control (you are a tank, don't recommend unless you plan to make a full on DPS Fenrir)
-Heavy Armor (IF you want to go full on Tank Mode aka TFalcon mode)
On the live server, I use Heavy Armor Kit x2, and it works for me currently. However, I realize that you are in a Meta where damage is king and you need enough damage to still put the fear into the reds to think twice about fighting you 1v1. Reactor will give you that extra damage you need. Last Stand is Self Explanatory. Level this module, it will save you.
Healing Module is a must on this build.
Pilot Skills:
Adrian is a must on this build. 5% damage is very important and useful for melting bots who dare to stand before you. If you are using Thermonuclear Reactor x2, then you need to invest into defense early on this Pilot.
I would start in this order:
-Armor Expert - Highest defense
-Tough Guy - Same as above, weapon dmg reduction is negligible vs defense.
-Mechanic - VERY important. Need this to avoid extensive use of the green crack in between fights. When I taker down a bot in between fights, I am going to back off for 10-15 seconds and let my Mechanic ability to heal me. It's very useful and mandatory.
-Adamant Guardian: Go for it if you play beacon type games. Some like to play only TDM or FFA, so you might want to drop this for more damage or lower cost for the green crack.
-Road Hog: At first on my live server I thought this was a wasted spot. But on the test server, this is basically will help you get to the beacons or get around corners fast enough against Meta bots who activate your ability. This determines how much green crack you need to use.
-Adamant Gunsmith - This is where you can either make this an optional and focus on improving your shield use or keep for additional damage. The point is that you can have enough damage and defense to take out a few bots by yourself.
Strategy:
So Lets understand the Fenrir in a nutshell:
-He is not tanky as a Traditional Falcon, so you are not a 4v1 battle warrior.
-But has more defense than an Invader, so you can tank some hits.
You Are a DPS Tank. You are not #1 in DPS or in Defense but you are near the top in both categories, which makes you one of the most feared monsters in the game 1v1. Unless you are fighting a Leech, you should beat any 1v1 or even 2v1 meta bots.
Although you are tanky, it doesn't mean you should take fully damage from an Ares or Ao Jun and then go for the kill. Remember, you do have a shield so you can use it to soak up some of their damage, but remember to switch back to the DR form before it goes to Zero or you will take unnecessary damage to your durability. There is no shame in running around corners or find a building or shelter to avoid unnecessary damage, the point is that your trying to stay alive long enough to be useful and should get 4+ kills before you drop. Here are some strategies against the Current meta bots from my experience:
Ares:
1v1 in an open field, you should be able to kill him easily. However, this is a peekaboo bot, so they hide behind walls, run away or Phase shift when they realize they can't kill you in one shot. You should be able to melt him within 5 sec (minus the last stand). The thing you should understand is that the pink shield means nothing until he fires his secondary weapons. When he starts firing his secondary weapons, you should:
A) Cut around a corner and avoid the ensuring damage
B) Tank the hit but use the healing button ON THE secondary weapons to reduce the bot dmg durability limit.
On the test server, A Hit from Glacier slows this bot down after his ability is offline, so this is where road-hog comes in and you can chase him down and melt him. What I do is to force the Ares to blow his ability earlier than he should so you can go after him in YOUR favor and not his. Let him blow his 40 green crack to escape using PS, that's 6 seconds vs his CD on his ability. That is more than enough time to kill this bot when he comes out of PS. On a 2v1, if they both blow their pink dress, just run and hide until they both are on CD. This is where ignite and Glacier will punish them for the mistake. When they are down, that usually game for both. 3v1 or more, bring a teammate because at that point it is a Ares train and at the MOST you will kill only one, which would be a waste of resources and your time.
Ao Jun:
1v1, find a corner with cover and TRY to avoid all of the damage (use your shield while under cover to absorb some of the fire dmg). Because the 2nd they are on the ground, they are dead, even with broken PS + Foolhearted pilot ability. If by chance they get back in the air again, rinse and repeat. On a 2v1, same strategy but you may have to use the green crack to reduce the durability damage, kill the one with the weaker last stand first. 3v1 is a no go and you need to retreat back unless this is the game winning beacon capture.
Phantom:
This bot has very HIGH DPS. At MK2 they have Defense almost on par with you based on their ability and can shred you if you make a mistake. Lets not even go into the Pilot ability makes this bot hard to kill. This bot is should not be a 1v1 without knowing if they are offense focused or defense focused. If offense focused, you will need to shred them with your ignite and glacier weapon and heal within the fight(your defense will hold and they will run away). If its defense built, you will have to learn to KITE (aka move around corners while fighting, pointing your igniter around the corner to avoid dmg, grouping up with others..etc). This is where you need to focus on your location and where you are at, at all times! try to avoid open space if you see this little bot running in your direction. This is where the splash dmg of Glacier and ignite comes through. Fire and ICE around a corner will allow you to deliver additional damage while they are attempting to chase you and slow them down a bit. They have a limit on time to kill, you don't. Take your time and don't freak out. If they forget to blink back and they are on Cooldown, make them pay dearly. If this bot blinks back to his location, that means you have time to heal in case he wants round 2. Hopefully at that time
you will have healed or have backup.
Leech:
This bot is your arch-rival. He has better damage than you, his ability forces you to not attack him at ALL for 9 seconds. And if you are fighting a Storm build MK2 bot in the open, all I can say is drop your bot and go get another one or get as much dmg you can on this Leech before death. With this bot, you need corner cutting to avoid that shotgun with the leech ability on you. And now that Pixonic just released a Pilot that adds 15% increased speed on this bot for the Halloween event, along with roadhog, he is now a Pursuer with 4x storms. This is a bot where 1v1 you most likely lose that fight since most Leeches comes with Anticontrol mod and PS and foolhearted. So the recommendation is to avoid 1v1 and work with a teammate to take him down. Depending on the situation, you may have to forsake the beacon and cap another beacon. In TDM, sneak up behind him if you see that his ability is on Cooldown. In FFA, use the environment and make him blow his ability early and hide until it wears off. Once it's gone, your defense is better than his, so punish him.
TFalcon: IF it's for beacon control, you should win this fight easily. Heck, you should win 2v1 EASILY. In TDM, they usually do not come alone, so kill the DPS first before killing the TFal. You should have no problem against this bot, even with his new pilot for dmg bonus.
Invader/other bots: They should not win a straightforward battle with you.
Overall, I found this build to be very good and should hold for upper champions as well. The main thing about this bot is that you need to keep an eye on the field and whats going on. If you see your teammates getting jumped by an Ares, jump in and they will realize that your bot is not to be trifled with. Oh That TFal thinks he is going to cap that blue beacon, run over and punish them (most players get pissed when your Fenrir soloed their TFal easily and run and grab an Ares or Ao Jun for revenge....just laugh and own their Ares/Ao Jun as well). At that point, they will need back up to stop you. I've seen where I have killed someones TFal, guy gets Ao Jun/Ares, dies again, and this time bring friends to bring you down. The point is that in beacon battles, if the team (or majority of the team)focus is on you to bring you down, then you are doing your job. That means there is a weak point somewhere else on the map that allows your team to capture beacon points.
You Are a Fenrir!!! You have no fear, but you must play smart. Any suggestions from users to update post, let me know.
