It will take sometime before the Leech infects the battlefields but it will eventually happen.
I’m usually against the pessimistic approach and speculation, I prefer to wait and see how it goes since history shows that many of us have usually found a way. But this time around I’m kinda afraid it’s gonna become unprecedented craziness on the battlefield.
First thing that comes to mind is being behind cover writing for the thing’s ability cool down only to have one of those abundant moronic players to incessantly shoot at the damn thing while it is redirecting dmg to my helplessly hidden bot.
Brawling seems to be doomed.
Whales death squads will be deadlier than ever.
I Same way there are like 5 to 6 purple princess at any given time during any Masters League/Champions League match...can’t even start to imagine how bizarre a battle of mostly Leeches vs Leeches will be. Nobody knowing which one is redirecting damage to whom, nobody safe behind cover and spectre like firepower raining down on everyone from everywhere...
Guess I’m gonna undust my TT Fury and Tulu spectre and switch back to only DOM and see if it works waiting until the field is cleared of leeches and then approach beacons (but I don’t think it will)
I honestly hope I will be proved wrong, I guess once more we will have to wait and see...

Leech is just such a horrid idea... same with Shield breaker affecting ALL shields... I don't even know if I want to deal with this tbh.

Before I answer, I saw you last night (I think it was Dead City and you might have had a couple of VOX guys on your team, Buffalo and Faverside if I remember correctly). Good game! My team got obliterated (including me) so I was gone before I got to see the results, but I'm sure you had plenty of the final pie-o-damage. I think there will need to be some experimentation with this to see what tactics and counter tactics work and don't work. The one benefit I see to this is, the leech has to focus on the target it's leeching from. I think it will be rare that a leech will focus on someone in cover, while allowing someone else to shoot at him. Why would he when he can focus on the guy who's shooting him? The only reason I can see would be if he's picking on somebody. Then, his tactic really only works if the guy that's firing on him (while he's not firing back) keeps doing it. This would require severe ?smart person?-ery (which I know is out there) and I just don't see it. I do see a smart pilot using this to pick off a wounded person hiding while someone else is engaging him. A quick switch of targets to redirect the damage, but not whole sale redirecting of damage. Just my $0.02. I don't think the sky will be falling with this bot, is my point.

The latest Pix video says Leech is vulnerable to corrosion weapons.
I guess corrosion weapons were not selling very well.

This is from the shieldbreaker thread. IMO, 111k hp is pretty weak. IIRC, only during Leech ability does DR go up, so during that short time, maybe a little tougher to kill......but not much. The biggest bother to me is how Pix keeps screwing the game up with these gimmicks which require the driver(commandar) to hide for half of the battle. maybe that’s why I like Tanks....I hate to camp and loathe hiding.

Poop, good question. I’m assuming-yeah, I know-that TS and Skirmish is similar, so Level 10 should be about right. Even if that number is Level 8, still a similar number to the other 4 medium hardpoint bot we all know and love.
The good news is this one won’t disappear or jump or throw out an extra shield. TBH, I don’t see Leech being very good, or popular, kinda like Rayker.....

I see an influx of Spiral, Hydra and Chimera users as a possible counter to the Leech. Whenever new content hits the Live server, usually, the best initial counters are distance and attacking from out of line of sight. So, Noris and Zenits will likely make a come back until people learn how to counter effectively.

I’ll picture this scenario in any short map: There’s been that annoying Ares/Ao Jun guy badly hurting any blue passing by center and hugging that wall half the match. Smart blue Leech pilot knows that’s the one to get rid of. Jumps to center focusing on guy to beat while likely 2 Reds shoot at him trying to defend center cos damage is not redirected at them And only one is being installed-killed by 4 mids, Leech with DR lasts enough to cap center, kill one more red and if not killed at least drains strongest red indirectly by friendly fire. Now how many times have you focused fire on a red that smartly runs in to cover and you switch to any other uncovered red while you empty your clip on them and many open fire back at you? Well if you’re riding a leech, in the fog of war, that guy that ran into cover will take dmg from his mates shooting at you...

Watch for the Leech's ability to stop and then pop up and dump a payload of rockets on it. Not really any different than how we'd hit a Greek or an Ao Jun that's just landed.

I agree with your thinking but I'm remembering the thread a couple weeks ago where someone was facing a full squad but also had a couple of those squad members on the blue team which deliberately did not engage in battle to stop them from having any chance of winning, well we might get to see this tactic being used and squad members deliberately shooting each other to leech damage to other players just for extra trolling effect.

I think corner-shooting is still the best tactic against Leech even with its ability bypassing walls.
Corner-shoot the Leech from 500m to stop it from advancing and force it to use anti-control/phaseshift; then corner-shoot it again with one halo or any lockdown weapon when its ability is about to end to prevent escaping.

Yes I’m worried about that tooBrawling seems to be doomed. Maybe, but worse yet to let them run over beacons and try to midrange them to death with 90% DR
True, but not knowing when some dumb will shoot the thing while activated nor knowing whom is the thing gonna be redirecting dmg to is gonna have a deterrent effect, specially on wore down and weak bots from getting in range even behind cover.Whales death squads will be deadlier than ever. I mean, does that really matter...? randoms don't stand a chance against squads anyway.
TrueI Same way there are like 5 to 6 purple princess at any given time during any Masters League/Champions League match...can’t even start to imagine how bizarre a battle of mostly Leeches vs Leeches will be. Yeah one of the things that gives the TFalcon some resemblance of viability and balance is its relatively weak firepower, now with an Spectre kind of firepower, holly Molly man! Guess I’m gonna undust my TT Fury and Tulu spectre and switch back to only DOM and see if it works waiting until the field is cleared of leeches and then approach beacons (but I don’t think it will) Midrange against damage reduction is already a proven fail, better off eating that 35% damage leech and brawling them to death during cooldown. 35% isn't a ton of damage, they'd have to soak like 300,000 damage for it to be significant.
Yes agree, that’s why I don’t think it will work, however as Koalabear said it will be the reaction of many weaker players. Also, Since many will be deterred from getting closer, it might seem viable to chip them out from range while cooling. I wore down and killed many tanks and negated map areas with that TT fury back in the splash days. But I know they could carry 4 mid rangers too so no point. 35% isn’t a ton of dmg but it is the difference between life and death for half drained hiding Ares.
I honestly hope I will be proved wrong, I guess once more we will have to wait and see... tl;dr It's not the leech ability that's scary, its the DR. I think if you can manage to skirt the DR period it might be ok. I can handle taking a 25% durability hit through a wall, but you can't go toe-to-toe with them during that 10s.
I mean cover has been the steady bread a butter of this game from the start. through all previous changes and all the hideous things (including weird trajectory hydra) that can be seen today in the battlefield. And is about to be violated... Guess we will have to wait and see

I thought Leech had to have line-of-sight on you to drain hp, so getting to cover will still work. Or is it that LOS is only required for the initial targeting and then it’ll drain wherever you are?
But that spec screenshot above says it’s range is only 350m. Can you back away to break the hp drain?

This thread has definitely convinced me to switch my avenger/viper Au Jun to all Viper!

I'm going to call it: Leech gameplay is going to be almost exactly the same as pre-nerf Ares and is going to be just as bad for the game. They have the same ridiculous base speed, similar cooldown times, and an instawin ability that essentially makes the bot invulnerable (good luck getting through 90% DR). Leech's slots and ability put it beyond the Ares in the firepower department, and there's zero drawback to using the ability, unlike with the nerfed Ares.
Of course, we can't know for sure how it will actually turns out, and I'd be extremely happy if I'm wrong. Let's just hope that I am.
On a tangential note, I think that Pix bungled the damage reflection mechanic. Any player with half a brain would realize that shooting a Leech gives a very unfavorable damage tradeoff, so the bot may as well just have invulnerability instead. What they should have done IMO is make it a big tanky bot with toggle-able modes like the Bulwark or Fenrir, and have a mode that splits the damage 33/66 in the enemy's favor, which is balanced out by the bigger health pool, so that enemies would have a reason to shoot and the mechanic would be relevant. A bot like that would be painful for fragile bots like the Ares to attack and would shake up the meta in a good way, but instead Pix is just giving us a rehash of the Ares.

I gotta say, this thread has changed my thinking some about leech. Perhaps the DR (and 4 mediums) will end up being the more potent element and the redirect ability just a small bonus.
Already now most players know to stop firing at the purple disco. Yeah there’s still some firing, but at only 35% that may not be terrible. Certainly 4 mediums will dish out more damage (brings the Ork/Taran nerf into focus a little more).
Might need to crunch some numbers on actual damage output needed to kill a maxed/armor-modded leech.
