I'm not arguing for a new meta but are there alternatives that are almost as good? What are your thoughts - what do you use and why?

I would've picked aphids for a normal db They were trashed for so long - I am still hesitant but they make sense to me. I thought I was missing something.

Tulumbas Punisher is all I can think of
You still get 40k of splash every 18 seconds and the punishers have the range, dropping anciles for your rockets to get through.

I actually agree with RO in this... O .o Shocking! The Puns could make it successful against Ancile bots like he said... But as with any Punisher build... you had better have cover and not be the sole focus of their attack... they do surprisingly good sustained damage up close, and are great against Anciles even at maxed 500m range. But you won't be winning any close range 1v1 contests with DBs or PDBs. RDB shouldn't be played that way, anyway, so, in theory, should be worth trying, at the least. But, we all know Punishers are worthless... right? Mixing ranges is also usually not considered good... yet I have seen quite a few builds that have aphids thrown in when ranges don't match. I don't see why you wouldn't be able to do decent to well with them. Chip away with Tulus at range. If they close, hide and lob 'phids until you can jump away to create separation, possibly firing the tulus during the jump. Best idea ever? No. BUT, if you already have them leveled? Try it out for a few matches, if it doesn't work, no harm no foul. If you don't have them leveled, however, not worth it. Pins are a "known-good" for the setup. Aphids, while useful in many builds, aren't thought of as being a RDB alternative, for a reason. Aphids are worth leveling, no doubt. But not to try for an experiment. So... in the words of the great Two-Can Sam... "follow your nose!" JMO.

Reason for post - I am terrible with my RDB Griffin. I want to be good but it seems like I am always at the wrong place at the wrong time. Plus - why does it seem a near miss full salvo does next to no damage to the reds and when I side step a RDB I'm lucky if I keep all my weapons???
Any tips?
With molots - at least I'm doing something...

I would stick with the pins even with the different reload times Favorite tactic and map with RDB is firing one weapon at a time at targets inside center beacon . Shooting at both sides/ corners of the wall alternately is effective as you can watch them try to stay away from the splash. Eventually they will run from the cover and expose themselves to you waiting teammates

Although I probably wouldn't do it myself, it seems like a Spiral/Tulu would be the mid-range version of the Ork/Aphid...

I'd recommend a pair of Punishers at a minimum of level 7 each. I'd get them up to level 9, as that's an easy one to afford the extra damage can help you to erase the first second or so of energy shield regeneration.
The Punishers can easily be upgraded to level 7 and at that rate they will completely zero out an Ancil type shield and you can do this at 500m --- and land 100% of each Punisher's 220 bullets. The zeroing out of that red bot's energy shield is a big help to your friends and it will allow you to fire your Tulumbas into the target fir full damage. If you tried this with an RDB, the energy shield of the red bot would absorbed the entire load and you'd get zero damage dealt.
While it uses true that Punishers deal low damage at over 200m, they will deliver better damage than 2 CRVs at the 300/350 to 500m range. This is important because you can use them above the range of Orkans/Tarans where you can where you can deliver pretty much uncontested damage against all the knifer Griffins and Plasma Galahads (don't think that Gal shield will last long at 350-500m - it will be seriously depleted and the shielded Gal only has a 10KPH advantage over the Griff).
The Punishers also do a good job against the Ancilot's physical shields on their second salvo --- where your 2nd Tulumbas salvo will be ready too.
Overall, I think the Punisher option is a good one, a they more than make up for the low 20K splash damage of two L12 CRVs.

Why no Pin/Molot MKII ... might be good for suppressing center, Molots can really tear it up at just under 500m. Start with the Molots at 600ish and work you way into pin range.

I have seen Aphid Tulumbas Griffins work in Powerplant with good success.
