First of all, stop, just stop.
I don't want league points for most beacons, and you shouldn't either.
Do you want 5 gold in your current league level for caps, or 6,8 or 10 in a lower level league for caps and damage.
It isn't broken it is working just fine... I would rather have more gold and lower scores than higher scores and less gold.

For me the desire for change is not about league points or gold. I want better matches. The current league point structure encourages bad play - damage for the sake of damage - rather than good tactical play.
I have been in several matches where I am the only bot capping beacons. The others spawn with their tridents and just sit in the same spot lobbing ammo. They do not even bother to cap the beacon they are standing near. But they end the match with the most damage, win or lose. The people who spent their time actually trying to win, on the other hand, even if it was just venturing out with a knife fighter and capping a couple beacons along the way, are left with a frustrating match and fewer league points or negative points.
How is that making the game better or more fun? The rewards should encourage better play, not worse play. People will follow the incentives.

The league rewards are actually pretty modest compared with the potential rewards available from winning gold in your matches. So there is definitely incentive to win, and always has been. In addition, people may not be concentrating on damage just for their league scores. They may want the silver. In higher level play it has always been a thing for people to not cap beacons on purpose, in order to make matches last longer. The point of that being to be able to do more damage and so earn more silver. Now that more people seem to be following the 'compete like you're climbing to Top' style, the optimize play to maximize silver earning style that goes with it should be more common as well.

The point of that being to be able to do more damage and so earn more silver. This is a very good point. I had not considered that some may just be after more silver. That probably compounds the problem with the league point chasers. I still think that it is best to modify the incentives and rewards to encourage better play, but it is helpful to know that there are more factors involved other than the league points. The changes in player behavior have certainly made me play more squad matches with my clan, but I also enjoy the random challenge of solo play, so I hate to see it being such a mess (IMO). It's like I'm back to newbie days. The noricums have been swapped out for tridents, but the play is still frustrating as I watch them stand just out of range of a beacon they could be capturing to turn the tide of the battle in our favor.

It is a great place to run a basic hanger and have fun with it (the point of the game). I win some, I loose some, and it keeps me where I am... If you can't (or should not) move up, then move down and be courteous about it. You can run an all silver hanger down here and be effective and have a good time.

I personally don't think silver is the driver.
I believe the issue is firmly with the perception of what the league represents.
People read 'league' and think "the goal is to try and get to the top of it"... which is exacerbated by the fact that you get rewarded for moving up a tier.
Virtually all of the dialog i encounter is centered around the medals - "I win four matches and then lose one and i'm at a net zero medals??? this league sucks" type of thing... indicating people are hung up on gaining medals.
The league should be viewed simply as a measure of 'progression' through the game... when you get to the point where you keep taking two steps forward, one step back, you've found your sweet spot... as bitter as that may seem.. i.e. THAT'S your League.
advancing from there requires improvement in hangar or skill or both.
If everyone ignored the league and just played to win, everything would be dandy... unfortunately, we're human beings.. so the developers are going need to tweak things in order to change behaviour...
There needs to be more of a premium put on actually winning the game... the devs probably thought that they'd done that with the 'everyone on the winning team takes home a prize' thing.. but by making some prizes bigger than others, it doesn't work... and it's made worse by the 'best losers' getting a prize too.
