hey guys! my name is alex and i am living in berlin (germany, CET) and this is my first post. actually i'm really glad to finally have managed to join you (i tried it 1-2 months ago but it somehow didn't work out).
my in-game name is: spezialtüp
(which is nothing more than some ironic putting of "special guy" - as 'typ' in colloquial german is a simple term for a single (masculine) man, guy or fellow. countered by that letter "ü" however, which phonetically means the same, it appears as quite silly.)
i started to play War Robots, i think, in january 2019. somewhere in november 2017 i already had a short encounter with War Robots, and i liked the general idea instantly and also how it was realized. back then though i was starting on a tiny iPhone screen and eventually quit. but now, since i got myself an iPad last christmas, i am very much into it.
i am an easy going person, i guess. i like talking, thinking, joking.. so please feel free to ask (or answer) me anything!
i am looking for general advice and sharing experiences, and last but not least for finding a decent, active clan.
thank you for being here and thank you so much for running this forum!
cheers, fellow pilots!
alex

Why are Germans such serious and hard workers? What causes/contributes to this? I worked on a project with some German nationals about 12 years ago in New Mexico (Albuquerque - Schott Solar), and they were some of the most dedicated and sincere folks I've worked with, really made a good impression on me. Anyway, my wife and I are both US citizens, but both have German ancestry. So welcome to the forum and the game. Despite the questionable monetization tactics Pixonic deploys, it is still a fun and rewarding game, you can meet cool people in clans, FB, Discord etc. In my humble opinion, just play the game, don't let it play you. Happy hunting.

Btw, I was in Dusseldorf in Sept. 2017 for a weeks, visiting the Schweissen & Schneiden international trade fair for joining, cutting, surfacing etc. The country is very beautiful on that side (West). Also, I loved how just about every other trade booth offered free beer, and the styles offered were very diverse...there's no such thing as "German style" or whatever. If that same trade show were to take place in Texas, free beer and all...might quickly get out of hand.

spezialdupe , welcome! Let us know if you have any questions. Or, to start things off, you can post your hangar and league info! hi koalabear, right on, i am really curious what others will have to say about my hangar! i am currently at expert III, first struggling a bit there but now in it kind of safe. i have to admit that i purchased bots: two hovers and a strider - oops, and a raven - and plus i take the 1,09 € for 600 Au deal each time. the hovers and the raven were offered for 10,99 €, the strider even for 5,49 € - (1,00 USD is 0,89 €) i must appear to you as some light-footed pay-to-win player - but i consider myself as not being anything like that. i was just fed up with my two molot T noricum griffins, knowing that i will replace them (both the weapons and the bots) as soon as i would be able to do it. so i made the decision to invest a bit.

spezialdupe, first off, never apologize nor worry how you appear to others. We here like to vent and gripe about whales all the time, but it's just generalizing. We actually do welcome all input. In fact, I remember when the dash bots first came out, we had a guy here (I can't remember his name), but he was a self-professed whale and he was cool with it. He was the first one to talk in detail about the Scourge Bulgasari and about how powerful and useful it was. It made me grind out Scourges to go with my Bulg back then and I loved the build for a long time. Anyway, second, none of the bots you bought are considered "whale'ish". I'm a Hover lover myself. I have 3! Looking at your hangars... Hmm... You seem to like the Noricum a lot! LOL, nothing wrong with it. I just never conceived putting them together with Orkans or Scourge. They won't synergize well with either Orkans or Scourges in my opinion. The Noris can't hit anything under 300m. The Orkans can barely hit things just above 300m (splash damage), so you'll either either with one weapon or the other in most engagements. The conventional build would be to put a Pinata in place of the Nori and go full DB (Death Button). I've also found Orkan/Aphid to be a decent build, and then that way, you can go full PDB (Plasma Death Button) on the other Hover with Tarans/Magnum. As for the Scourge on the Raven. I can see it working but then you have 2 disadvantages. A. you're neglecting the auto-lock advantage of the Scourges if you have to face your target to hit with the Noris. B. Energy and missile mix means that you'll be hitting with only energy weapons against bots with Anciles while the Noris chip away at the shield. If you don't have Sparks, the maybe go with Geckos instead so that you have full energy, but still have to aim directly at your target. Definitely put Sparks in your longer term acquisition plans though. Tridents and Pinatas on the Strider. I'm pretty sure you're planning on an Exodus to replace the Trident. It's actually not a bad idea, but on a fast bot like the Strider, with it's ability to get in and out quick, you won't go wrong with moving a Thunder to the Strider while you're grinding for an Exodus. Thunder Carnage is really showing it's age. I would go for 2 Avengers as soon as possible. Other things to consider. You might want to give some thought into the Root guns. These are the Shredder, Pulsar (pulse laser types) and the Halo, Corona and Glory (energy shotguns). They are meta right now for good reason. They offer higher DPS than their cheaper kinetic counterparts and they can root your target for 5 seconds. You can also consider the Viper as a possible alternative to Avengers. It'll take longer and cost more, but they're energy based and they do corrosion (damage over time) damage. For bots, maybe consider the Bulwark. Same hardpoints as the Carnage and has double shield instead of the Rush ability. Above all, have fun!

hey koalabear, thank you so much for your feedback on my hangar - and for taking away the doubts!
NORICUMS yeah, the noricums are leftover of the anxious days at the sidelines in the first place.. but until today quite often the noricums are the only way to be able to do at least something while everyone is waiting for something to happen when the targeted opponent is behind cover. this kind of micro-scenario occurs several times in every match. i still find it's a useful tool to harrass the opponent, hoping him (or her) to be nervous enough to suddenly leave cover etc. ...and fighting with the hover means spontaneous actions are possible, so the 300 m min/max between noricums and orkans often work quite well together.
but the other, probably bigger factor is the lack of any decent light weapons. i do not have a single spark, magnum or gust so far. i am waiting for the upcoming 100-keys chests outcome at the end of this season. if nothing helps i will purchase some for gold sooner or later. yes, i am hoping for sparks, exactly! :-) (especially for the raven)
i have to confess also, the noricums are my only answer to the harrassments dealt by far away zenith or flux campers who often consider themselves to be safe. i use the target lock quite a lot to skip through the reds to find that one hydra /zenith/flux bot to retaliate - at least a bit. regularly i lose my temper about those damn hydra and laser fruitcakes. i just hate getting harrassed by them while trying to bring on some artful maneuver - i'm an artist! don't disturb me! haha!
STRIDER yes, you're exactly right: i am currently building up an Exodus for my strider! unfortunately, it just takes months. but again, quite often i am glad to have a 600m mid-range option with the Trident, especially on shenzen map the corner splash is great and often unexpected, and for this tiny bot its useful on any distance map. but my most wrampages and godlikes occur by skating around with the strider and crushing weak bots on the go on the urban maps.
besides loving to be quick i'm a passionate knife fighter. the thunder carnage often is my last resort when it comes to defending contested beacons at beacon rush. often i take out 2-3 even not-so- weaked bots within a minute with it. interestingly, it doesn't happen so often to encounter thunders leveled higher than mine at lvl 10, which is not very high but powerful already. and i love 1-vs-1 with my carnage ...it shows the tactical skills a player has due to the reduced possibilities. i would love to have a carnage-only revival skirmish one day. but yeah, someday it will be replaced, too, i guess. two thunders mounted on a bot like the buwark will of course result in a better outcome.
i am working on a halo, too. and i am looking very forward to someday run a vortex bot.
i have a viper! it came at the end of the last season by playing a lot and gathering component parts. so far i haven't leveled it up. there are too many things to upgrade. now i see vipers in action and realize how powerful they are. the viper is definitely worth to get leveled up as soon as i have more heavy hardpoints to equip!
thank you, koalabear for reflecting my stuff, i appreciate it very much! its so helpful.

To mitigate Hydras, hug the walls like you love them. To avoid artillery, move forward and backward in line with the enemy. To mitigate snipers hide your center and corner shoot. Also, a shield not of some sort like a Gareth or Galahad will be super useful.
You can get a Pinata for the DB Hover. The extra brawling firepower is worth the trade off in harassment ability. Also, consider getting a second Trident and run Trident Carnage. Then move a Thunder to the Strider. Try the Hover with Scourges. You will love it! Scourges were literally made for the Hover. You can put anything on top. Aphid would work really well in this build cause you can hit from cover after a strafing run. Try running the Raven as a RDB. Tulumbas and Pins. All silver weapons and very effective. This build can last you forever. I still run one myself.

koalabear, thank you so much for these practical advices - this is exactly what i hoped for when i joined the forum. i will try all this out!
for the strider maybe i should head for two gusts or maybe even keep the pinatas. i had doubts with the thunder put onto the vulnerable strider; that it would take too much time to deal significant damage to anyone. i thought the quick burst of the Pinatas & Exodus set up would suit better with the overall mentality of the strider: to rush in fast, crush everything in reach as quickly as possible and hush away again.
hydras: yes, i am sure all the walls on every map know very well how much i need them! i couldn't live without them. mum! same with vortex threats.
actually, the forward/backward walking i just noticed in the last days by myself by following the distance meters. the zenith guys themselves often seem to do it, and it's much harder to hit them properly than focussing on the left and right angle.
SCOURGE+HOVER: yeah i had one scourge mounted on the first hover (alone the fitting colors gave me the feeling of "it should be that way") - i had that for a (well, relatively;) long time in a rogue combination with a single orkan i got from the crates: for instance, my standard procedure was heading for the center beacon right from the start - i was to open the match in rome by jumping right into the collosseum at first, and unexpectedly i defeated most incoming reds with this set up because of the long unloading time of the scourge's clip on such a short distance on an already orkan severed bot - and later i even blasted away some arriving bots at that other open beacon which is to be seen through that one gate. it was really a winning setup. until now, as i entered expert league. now often my opponents are masters and champions. now quite often they do the same or jump right after me, often even in pairs. then i have no chance and i lose an important bot within the first minute. i liked it so much i even got another scourge for the second hover and purchased a second orkan. corner shooting was interesting on the left as on the right side having such different characteristics etc.
Pins and Tulumbas for the raven: yes, they even came with the raven as default weapons. i think they really have to be leveled up properly. i didnt have the time so far. the tulumbas still are on level 6, pins on 7. right now they kill a half griffin and then i hang out smirking. but yes, i will keep the upgrading of these in mind. i hear and see tulumbas in just every match and they are really powerful. also, i just dont want to spend too much money.
btw the doublejump ability is so simple but genius in effect. it's such a huge improvement when coming from a griffin.

I'm not a Strider pilot, but there's plenty here, and there's even a full thread dedictated to Strictly Striders. Check it out for ideas!
If I had a Strider, I'd probably do Exodus/Pinatas or Exodus/Gust. Or, Viper/Shredder or Halo.

hey welcome.. as another Hover lover, here is the tips that works well for me now in champs 1) equip with last stand 2) equip with nuclear reactor 3) pair scourge + spark
Hover has special spot in several maps 1) dead city - park your hover on top of the high structure near the (A or C) beacon (you can survive longer there) 2) dreadnought - fly high to the roof. many opportunity in hitting reds on many angles. Or you can surprise attack reds on the roof top easily from below. 3) moon - start with hover and cap (D or B) beacon by flying over the obstacle (from spawn point). And you can ambush reds on many angles on this map. 4) valley - park your hover on the top of centre structure and you could ambush reds from many angles
hope this helps

hey earl, thanks for your welcome! that’s a tough question you’re asking. i wonder if i’m able to answer it that quickly but if you dont mind i will come back on you later. actually, things like this i find quite interesting, too. —but right now i‘m still taking off my jacket! haha Ok, thanks. I lived in Greece for 4 years by the way, and despite the stereotype, Greeks are not lazy. They are diverse in their thinking, and tax collection is an ongoing issue there. Btw, I was in Dusseldorf in Sept. 2017 for a weeks, visiting the Schweissen & Schneiden international trade fair for joining, cutting, surfacing etc. The country is very beautiful on that side (West). If that same trade show were to take place in Texas, free beer and all...might quickly get out of hand. hey Earl, I am really sorry to answer that late. ..i didn’t forget to answer but against the biggest cliche i have to confess i am actually a bit lazy. ..how did you happen to live in greece for four years? thats quite some time! you will know the greeks so much better than i ever could. i only was on crete for just one week attending a good friend’s wedding, which was a wonderful vacation. it is difficult to not generalize. “the germans”, the americans, or the greeks for instance (who indeed, as you said right, against that slightly racist stereotype, as it turned out even worked more hours per week than the oh-so-productive and well organized germans), but wait: the germans might be even a bit too organized. this is a cliche but i think it is true - which brings up a thought. everything is quite regulated which makes certain things possible and logically limits others - which results in a certain kind of overall mentality. the more organized a nation/society the less spontaneous and self determined the individuals in that society may be, at least a bit, simply by following the laws regulations and conventions as a common ground. i know that germans reflecting about themselves as germans are able to realize that there is a historically given aspect about us, the germans, which is called being „obrigkeitshörig“ – i will have to look it up for translation... well, okay, it says: obedient. that sounds a bit too dramatic to me but it’s true. we’re not the french, not the britains, which in comparison both seem to have a stronger sense for civil disobedience and the will to claim their rights. why that is..? how did it come to this? i don’t really know. it is a vast complex of historical factors over centuries. the whole european history is a complete mess! another more actual thing is: we don’t have that “church of being american” thing (or french, ..you name it) - theres no public patriotism, no pathos, as if the narrative was distorted ..which for the biggest part has to do with the disastrous nazi past. among critical german minds theres a deep uncertainty and permanent debate about being german at all. that’s a big identity issue. so maybe, but thats only a very vague idea, for more practical germans focusing on work and defining themselves this way could also mean to escape from bigger questions. i hope that’s nonsense.

Or you can surprise attack reds on the roof top easily from below. 3) moon - start with hover and cap (D or B) beacon by flying over the obstacle (from spawn point). And you can ambush reds on many angles on this map. 4) valley - park your hover on the top of centre structure and you could ambush reds from many angles hope this helps hey that’s great, thank you mate! 1) last stand, yeah i will look after it. (...finally the 600 Au deal seems back!) 2) currently i have two nuclear reactors lvl 4 on it, but not the thermonuclear one 3) yes i’m desperately waiting for a spark! i realized the synergy on bots i watched. maps: 1) dead city: okay interesting, i will check this out. 2) dreadnought: coming up from below unexpectedly is the best manoeuvre ever! i am actually waiting for the reds to walk up there. (also on the ramp/ gangway at yamantao but its a generally more dangerous scenario there). 3) moon: my standard opener! but defending the beacon gets more and more hard to survive, actually. and hydras! 4) valley: i often see someone up there. i always fear to expose myself too much but i should try it. thank you!

Ok, thanks. Also, I loved how just about every other trade booth offered free beer, and the styles offered were very diverse...there's no such thing as "German style" or whatever. If that same trade show were to take place in Texas, free beer and all...might quickly get out of hand. hey Earl, I am really sorry to answer that late. ..i didn’t forget to answer but against the biggest cliche i have to confess i am actually a bit lazy. ..how did you happen to live in greece for four years? thats quite some time! you will know the greeks so much better than i ever could. i only was on crete for just one week attending a good friend’s wedding, which was a wonderful vacation. it is difficult to not generalize. Wow, thanks for the thoughtful reply. I'm a US citizen, but my great-grandparents were German (Burmeister), Austrian (Hungarian at the time, Zechmeister), French and Swedish. My wife has a similar "Euro-mut" background: Italian, German, Irish...some native American too. Many Americans have this type of pedigree, and certainly I'm happy and quite proud to see Germans do well in Europe and in international trade, some of the German-made brands are the most prestigious anywhere, and I do believe this reflects on the strong work ethos of the culture there. Texas has had German newspapers and communities in rural areas until around WW2, which maybe fell out of favor due to Hitler's bizarre ruling period, not sure, but I don't think anyone feels that he reflected German ethos in any way, I don't. German style beer (Bocks, Kolsch) is very much a thing here (Texas). Also, my daughter is learning German...cheers!
