You could ask the same question for why you choose the 4th slot, or the third slot.

A Trident Fury could last the entire game along with an Ancile Lancelots if things get rough.

MOAR damage, damage total is everything now. That is the current meta.

If you can achieve that with four bots and the right investment then the 5th slot is pointless. Today I bought my 5th and threw in a crappy barley leveled RDB and my numbers are already looking better.   Yet that was after avoiding the 5th slot for 2x Orks and a Galahad. No regrets on any gold purchases.

More slots will always be better no matter what.

So many matches are lost when more than half of a squad only has 4 bots. Plus gives you the ability to have short and long range in your hangar

Diversity is nice. I have had mine for a bit and while it was painful to save up for i rest easy in all my new purchases because its not hanging over my head.

just tonight I have meched out in about half of my games. It is not because I am a bad player either. When your team is losing out on beacons, if you do not play aggressive to take them back, you will lose anyway. The 5th slot can be an absolute game changer more times than you might think.

Fifth slot is generally true for players who want to improve and do better for all the reasons listed. Many higher power players in my league (I'm H9.5/9.8) are 12/12 players with 4 slots.....I find they are one of the reasons why my squad loses matches as they mech out.

If you find that a 5th slot is not needed, and you are crushing it with 3-4 bots.....great. But as you advance (and you said gold was hard to get for you), you will start to mech out and your team will more likely lose. If you spent the gold you saved on a shiny new bot or wep but now it is even harder to get gold because you lose a lot, then that 5th slot becomes really hard and the cries go out about how unfair the game is. The reality is that you are paying the consequences for your decision.

Your story and questioning the value of the 5th slot has been posted numerous times.....but far outweighed by the experience of many who have invested in that 5th slot and it paid for itself many times over. At the end of the day, it is your decision....take the advice of many experienced players or trust that your skill is such that you can overcome opponents at your level and much higher fighting disadvantaged with 4 slots.

So your call as only you know your objectives in the game.

I would recommend getting 2 Orkans before the 5th slot. This is not because I think that the 5th slot is not more important per se, it is because those 2 Orkans can significantly increase the amount of Au you earn. If your aim is to get from 4 slots and no Orkans to the position of having 5 slots and 2 Orkans I think you will get there more quickly by buying the Orkans before rather than after the 5th slot.

Having 5 'bots to choose from rather than 4 (choices based on map and current tactical position) will make you more effective (and should give you more fun) even if you never get through more than 3 'bots in a match.

If you never mech out then you have plenty of scope to play more aggressively, do more damage, and cap more beacons than you are. The trade-off for doing more is increasing the likelihood of taking more damage.

That's like saying that we shouldn't have safeguards on airplanes just because nothing will go wrong if the pilot is good enough. The reason why we include safeguards, idiot proofing, and multiple redundant systems in engineering is in the case something goes wrong. This is because it's much harder for two or multiple systems to fail than one. ?poo-poo? will hit the fan inevitably(see Murphy's law), and when it does, you don't want to be up ?poo-poo? creek without a paddle.

This is why there are hydraulic and manual flight control systems in aircraft nowadays even though we have fly-by-wire. It's also why the A-10 Warthog is such a beast, nearly half the plane could fall off and it could still be able to fly. That is how redundant its systems are.

I didn't spend a gold on weapon or bot before 5th hanger just few weeks ago, I was envy other people have Gareth, Galahad, Orkan etc gold bots or weapon. I think 4th hanger is must before any weapon or bot, but 5th hanger can be after Orkan.
My experience is having 5th hanger allow you to sacrifice 1 or 2 bots for capping a crucial beacon or teammate
Play aggressively when necessary (you know your team will rush for the 4th beacon with you if you willing to rush first, which normally will die first)
Just swap a better bot for the job when situation change (need beacon capper, need plasma weapon, need Orkan, need knife fighter, need long range bot etc)
