At a guess he probably wanted in early (as it’s a new game) or he was approached by the devs. Until he says something it is hard to guess what is going on. But in any case, if War Robots was doing well than the sideways step would be less likely. I reckon he is being smart and keeping his options open at a minimum.

Its an awesome game and it sounds like hes getting back to his FPS roots. With War Robots dying off the switch was bound to happen. I think we'll see a ton more content creators and players moving over to Legends.
I watched Manni's AL vids but find he doesnt add any value. There's already many other creators Id rather watch play Legends than Manni that are more informative, helpful or entertaining.
