Finally made it over the threshold to move up a level with only 5 battles left so i figured i would get a cushion and finish it off. F@ck no! My next battle I lose score over 430k in damage kill 6 and snag two beacons and end up with a MINUS 10!!! 「whiskey tango foxtrot」!! I have had worse games and came away with a plus 3 or 4. So now I am four freaking points in the hole and scared to go out again because i see another minus 10 coming my way.

If that's your taste of the higher league - getting your 「bum-bum」 handed to you - maybe you don't want to play in the higher league....

I do find it interesting that it takes 2-3 wins to overcome the loss in points if you lose one match all while the mm fights to keep your win% at 50%

Best guess is, the same way you were matched within a tier in the old MM system - everyone in a tier is treated as a pool of players and the MM looks to put them in matches together, with occasionally people getting pulled up or down a tier in order to fill in an empty spot and start matches faster.

It will just get harder and harder.

Because my understanding is what you've described isn't at all how it was working

No I'm saying the MM we have now is exactly the same MM system as what we got when the equipment-based tiers went away. Which is based on league points. The things is, before they turned the league interface on we didn't know what our league point score was so we were all a bit confused. To clarify - Ever since tiers went away, the MM has been based on league points. The only thing that's changed recently is that we now know what our league point score is.

Well, if 6 guys win each game, and 6 guys lose... we can't all have 64%+ win rates. The math wouldn't add up.

If i couldnt "handle my current league" then I wouldn't be hovering around the points needed to advance. To me moving up and getting better is the whole point of playing. If you want to hang out and seal club or "tank" then go for it. The point of the rant was that 2x now i have been close to advancing up and everytime I suddenly get the 「dookie」 kicked out of me and drop 20 points.

CrownBlack, this is anecdotal, but I did notice during my advancement matches from Silver I to Gold III that the advancement matches had gold and diamond opponents, while the silver league 1 matches were almost always gold/silver league opponents only. So you may be getting more difficult matches there in the advancement phase.

Since this has happened twice I believe you to be correct

I'm pretty sure you can 'lock-in' a challenge win by switching from solo to clan platoons in the middle of a challenge.
For example, let's say I T1 in my first 2 challenge matches and net 26 pts. So now I am 26 pts above the threshold with 3 matches to go. I can then do three 6-man platoons and even if I lose all three, I can only lose 18 pts (3 * -6 = 18) maximum. So net, I'm positive after 5 matches and guaranteed to advance.
Probably needs more testing but I believe this works from the evidence I've seen. And I don't think it says the challenge matches have to be solo.

Within the limitations of building matches using players all or mostly all from the same tier, the system does seem to cheat a little bit to tilt the match in favor of low win % people, and against high win % people. But the system doesn't seem to cheat quite as much to influence win rate as it did before the switch to leagues. But that's a guess from my own experience, we'd need more data.

The 5 qualifiers had players from Silver III through Silver I, as well as a rare few Bronze I (probably other acolytes like me).

Maybe I was initially placed in too high of a league, I don't really know but there are plenty of hangers my level in this tier...
