PUBG Mobile has now grossed more than War Robots, despite the fact PUBG mobile was released on February 9, 2018 while War Robots was released on April 14, 2014. PUBG hit 100 million dollars in just 200 days.
If there was ever an indication that going pay to win isn't just unnecessary to make money, but is actually bad for business, this is it.
League of Legends isn't the exception, it is the rule. People don't want to play pay to win games. War Robots topped out in revenue in September 2017 when the Dash Robots were released, it has been all downhill since then.

War Robots should have sold the best items in the game for about 20 dollars. No 200 or 300 dollar bots. No 1,5 month upgrade time for one bot or weapon. I'm quite sure, they would have sold a lot more virtual items, if the best items were 20 dollars max and good items about 5 to 10 dollars. Even better: By doing so, the player base might have grown greatly, like it did with PUBG Mobile.
I'm glad PUBG is grossing a lot, as I'm enjoying the game and hope for it to last a while. No MK2. No Boosters. No Modules.
Pure skill.

War Robots should have been free to play and become an Esport. I don't understand why Pixonic didn't see this great opportunity. Before War Robots, mech games were rare in the mobile gaming segment. War Robots had, at some time, a pretty much unique selling point. Of course, there were tons of other shooters around in 2014 and 2015, but the setting of War Robots was a kind of its own. This could have become one of the grand e-sport games like Counterstrike, PUBG, Fortnite, DOTA, LOL and so on. But all our dearest Philsonic could think of, was selling power and thus making the game inbalanced. I wonder how Stan's doing. Haven't heared from him in a whale now.

I don't understand why Pixonic didn't see this great opportunity. Because they're friggin' monkeys that cannot understand capitalism. They only understand short term gains. They are so stupid, they don't even understand how they are shooting themselves in the darn foot. Skins bring more money than power. Hulk only knows "Hulk smash!" Fkin' incompetent get-rich-fast morons.

Will be seeing robots paragliding down in the sky without any weapon.
Have to find weapons in wild....

Owns 40% of Epic Games too (and Fortnite and Unreal Engine). Has a mobile game (Arena of Valor/Honor of Kings) with 200 million plus players. They know what clicks and what not.

I don't think it's too late for them to change to a customization/individuality revenue model, BUT companies often have a philosophy they stick to and Pixonic is "Sell Power". For them to make a shift like that would likely take a new CEO as well as new managers from mail.ru's mobile games division. War Robots is still making money so they'll stick to their business model until it's truly broken which at that point it may get sold.
If pixonic just stopped where they're at on the power customization and started fresh only selling customized appearances it may open a whole new avenue for them. I can't say how much i'd spend, but it would definitely be nice to have more "affordable" skins, and even some different looking parts on robot's bodies... for example I might pick up something like sharper aggressive edged shoulders or exterior parts instead of all the rounded off stuff.
It's a shame because the ?dookie? storm of weapon, ability, health upgrades are going to keep coming as long as players buy them. And with the added need for powercells, the modules will make money for Pix for months to come... Unfortunately at the expense of player retention and downloads.

Why are you comparing the two? PUBG isn't p2w because it's so easy to win. That's why it has become so popular so fast. I hear little kids on the mic having a good time playing PUBG like GTA.

You have no idea what your talking about do you? It's easy to win? You get dropped in a game with 50+ players, the sole survivor is the only winner. Literally. The vast majority of people lose and have a win % in single digits: www.reddit.com/r/PUBGXboxOne/comments/80mz1m/win_rate_percentage/ . It isn't unusual for a new player to play 100 games without ever winning. Even in squad play, depending on the game mode, most squads lose. A 15% win rate while in a squad is pretty good. The game is brutally hard to win, winning a single match is an achievement. People like PUBG, League and Starcraft because they are incredibly difficult, not because they are easy. If you think it is so easy and you win so much, you should really go win money doing it: pubg-esports.gamepedia.com/PUBG_Esports_Wiki:Tournaments Apparently we have a PUBG gosu among us, and soon to be millionaire. Good luck thorloki.

And with the added need for powercells, the modules will make money for Pix for months to come... Unfortunately at the expense of player retention and downloads. I think it is too late. Going back to Smirnov’s article, I reckon Mail.ru bought the game with the intent to aggressively monetize it. The game is old now. Competition is getting really tough. PUBG surpassed Pix but that’s nothing in comparison to fortnite which was launched in 2017 (if I remember correctly) has a revenue of $2M/day (vs $35K for War Robots). During the dash release War Robots was #5 and now cant crack the 100 mark. The spenders in the game also want power and years of monetization attracted/retained those who will only buy if Power is sold. The risk associated with a strategy turn around would be too huge because they would have to attract a new bunch of core players and increase the user base significantly. But then the issue of the age of the game comes back into consideration again. The inbuilt monetization features would take ages to neutralise to the extent that a relaunch may be required. But in any case Phil still wonders at monetization elements in other games so nothing will change. They will milk the players in this game until the game is not meeting their revenue expectations and then provide a 6 month notice before server shut downs (just like with Robinsons).

I wonder what the policy is for spending money and a game going under. Say if you spent $20 on comps and the game shuts down unexpectedly two weeks later... is google going to give those players google credit back?
The game in general is focused on short term profits. Probably the castle map was the last decent long term effort I've seen. Everything else is wave after wave of OP bots and weapons that nearly unattainable unless you buy components or gamble with BM tokens.

Good luck thorloki. I've been playing for hours every day for a week... Sure, I haven't won every solo/duo/squad match... But usually if I camp, I win. Campers rule PUBG (mobile). Whoever gets to the center of the safe zone first just has to wait like a predator and pounce on the enemies running from the deadly gas who usually have low hp and need to heal before they scout the safe zone.

Saw a video on my utube feed once, clicked on it, and thought it was the stupidest game ever. Not even sure what game it was. High school is all about pecking order. If you want to be a lemming, then play that game. I like to play games that are fun like War Robots.

I find it funny that a bunch of grown men who are among the generation that complains about participation trophies can't stomach games that aren't pay to win. PUBG, League and Starcraft are hard, the skill ceiling is extremely high. I'm not in high school either, I'll well beyond my college years. And I don't like PUBG personally. But what we are comparing is the success of the game to War Robots. It isn't even close. PUBG isn't making millions from high schoolers. And it isn't easy.

So much wrong with what you just said... first you want to take the easy road and don't like pressure of criticism. No wonder why you told me you were a quitter. You and I couldn't be more different. Second, if you really are winning a lot, say 10% of the time (which I am certain you aren't because skill in PUBG has a correlation with with hard work and skill, it is hard work to actually become good, you contradict yourself over and over, have admitted you won't work hard because it isn't fun, quit ect...) it is because your not playing enough to play good players... it is like playing the first 10 matches in War Robots and telling everyone how easy the game is and how good you are. You actually had no idea what the game was, thought kids liked it because there was so much winning and likened the game to GTA, which is an entirely different genre. 10 out of 10. Well done trolling me, you got me good.

But the main reason for PUBG's success is most likely not because it's f2p... Console and PC players have to buy the game, so they pay for mobile users to play for free. PUBG mobile is more successful than War Robots because PUBG is already a successful game on Xbox. There are similar games to PUBG such as H1Z1 (free) on PS4 and Garena Free Fire (much smaller installation) on mobile that are becoming as popular.

thorloki, you should do research before you speak. The console and PC players don't pay the bills for the mobile users. The mobile game generates its own revenue... variety.com/2018/gaming/news/pubg-mobile-high-revenue-december-1203092204/Google doesn't compile stats from PC or console users when it calculates what a game grosses. It bases it on how much people spend through Google Play. People have spent far more on PUGB Mobile (different game than PUBG on a PC or Console) in under a year than in 4 years on War Robots. War Robots is pay to win, PUBG isn't. I know that is hard to understand, up there with how Google and Youtube make money, but with some research you can find the answer. Case closed. Now I can just ignore you. I really hope you consider educating yourself.

I already know that, but I meant to only say PUBG is already an established game. That's why it's already so popular on PS4 after being released this month. Everyone who plays games has seen "PUBG". Many gamers have never heard of Walking War Robots/War Robots..
