Ok, so I've just lost my test server cherry. What were my impressions?
First off, I've known about the test server for ages. Had the chance to download and run it many times in the past, but never pulled the trigger. It just seemed too much work and my time always seemed better spent elsewhere. Anyway, that just goes to show that there has to be something that really piques my interest before I will spend some time testing PIx's mistakes. Anyway, thanks to my love of the Hover, I just had to try these new flying robots.
But, first, some impressions about the test server. One word. Ok, two words: utter chaos. Seriously, no one plays seriously. It's just a huge rumble, not even a real brawl. It's very hard to get a feeling of how the new bots performs. The test server is also very laggy and buggy. I had teleporting bots, bots that would not die, and Aegis shields that would not deplete.
Anyway, my other impressions.
Ao Jun - the white Dragon bot This thing is seriously OP. Thanks to the mechanics of War Robots, where you do NOT have a vertical view control, you CANNOT see this thing coming if it approaches in stealth and you're not previously aware of it. It's like a great white shark in the sky. Flight altitude is the lowest of the three bots, but that's on purpose cause it's onboard flamethrower fires like a weak powered Ember and needs to be close to its target to get full damage - and controlling the bot in the air takes a lot of getting used to. Anyway, there's no point in complaining about the stealth (even though I tried) because Pix will just say that they're balancing it with the Quantum radar. Yup, create a problem and sell the solution. I tried several weapon combinations but landed on dual Avengers as my favourite.
Ao Guang - the green Dragon bot This was my favourite bot and is a little more balanced. It has 3 mediums, so anyone who has shelved their Haechis can transport the weapons over. It even looks like a flying Haechi. The missiles that this thing shoots are not powerful individually but they do a lot of damage over time. They're like Punisher bullets that have basic homing capability that do not need auto lock. Just keep your crosshairs on the red square and the missile will fly over low cover to hit the target. I recommended that they add auto-lock to balance this ability out cause the way it is right now is a pretty powerful mechanic. I tried several weapon loads, including Hydra, and my favourites were Scourge (of course), Vortex (this worked beautifully actually), Corona and Wasp. Basically, I ran this bot like a mid ranger with some aerial brawling ability.
Ao Qin - the red Dragon bot I didn't pilot this much cause it was only available in the Skirmish mode. They had Gust and Sting variants. It's the most balanced of the 3. The energy pulse didn't do that much damage that I could see. It worked the same way as the other. Put the crosshairs on the target and it will auto fire. The two variants basically illustrated the two extremes on how you would pilot this. Because it has the lowest HP, you may want to stay at 600m and sting your target to death and use the flight to get away and the energy beam to cover your retreat. Or, you can use it's superiour foot speed and brawl with it. It's a bit fragile for this but if you choose your targets wisely, you can do it.
All in all, the Ao Jun by far is the most OP, and the Ao Guang the most fun to pilot. I recommended to Pix that instead of stealth and damage resistance, they should give each bot a specific resistance or even immunity to while in the air. This would reduce the OP'ness and put some rock paper scissors in. I suggested that the Jun get splash resistance, the Guang get kinetic resistance and the Qin gets energy resistance. I doubt they will go for that cause it'll reduce the sale of the Quantum radar, but I'm crossing my fingers.
I am a little disappointed in the flight mechanic. When I saw the speed numbers, I envisioned the bots flying through the air at break neck speeds and screaming strafing runs. Nope. They looked like big balloons in the sky. As for the other stuff, the Aegis shield taking double damage from splash is now reversed. The Aegis is freaking strong now. In one game, I was pounding a Bulwark with another blue and we could NOT take that shield down. Great...fix one problem by making another. If they don't fix this, I expect Bulwark sales to go through the roof after next update!
Anyway, I made one unedited raw video for the feedback form cause they said I would get a prize. Here's crossing my fingers!

Nailed it. I've been using test server since the Rayker / Blitz / Invader bots were under test. Never went in for the new bots, just trying to figure out what my next upgrades and acquisitions would be. I'm all in on the flying dragons, though, also due to Hover enthusiasm. I feel like the chaos level in general spiked with the Greek bots and is now off the charts. Which, I think, is partially why a skilled pilot with decent battlefield situational awareness can do an enormous amount of damage with these bots. Nobody knows what they're doing and they just run around shooting at things without really understanding piloting / weapons mechanics. Even ranges. So I don't think they're really OP, or will not be once they get mixed into a normal hangar. It might be a very strong bot but I think many pilots will not be able to make use of them effectively. For Hover enthusiasts, they are right in the sweet spot.

I watched a few dragon bot videos on Manni's channel last night and it gave me a good idea of these bots might play on live server. I like the Ao Jun myself. But here is a link to one of the videos. You can get to the other videos through it.

Ao qin goes pretty good with 4 sparks. The flying height can be enough to go over the physical shields, not on a raijin though. Maybe if you take off from an elevated point.

That would probably be what I run if I ever get the Ao Qin. Auto lock builds are harder to use these days with all the stealth - which is only partially mitigated by the Quantum Radar - but play it well, this would be a well rounded mid to short range build.

I’ve ran them a few times the only one that seems OP would be AoJun especially maxed out . The others are pretty much useless unless they do something else to them .

I think the Ao Guang is pretty good too. It has 80% resistance when it is in Dragon Mode + it has the trageted missles ability. The Ao Jun has alot more health than the Ao Guang + stealth so, although the Ao Guang is a little bit faster, the Ao Jun it really too OP comparing to the Ao Guang.
With 3 Scources or Vortex etc it will still be really powerfull.

As of this message the test server is STILL OPEN.
You will be fighting 1v1 however in all game modes. (BR is actually pretty fun with 1v1) If you still have the TS from last week still installed, give it a shot!
The biggest thing I appreciate about any of these dragon bots is the manual ability button. Being able to end a flight and drop to the ground is the one main reason there are typically so many Hover corpses on your average battle field. Ditto for Falcons. That manual flight override is a game changer.
The one build I am least looking forward to facing (and will be building asap when released) Is the dual Flux Ao Jun. It can reach out and touch anybody, smoke them from the air and get back to blue cover every 20 seconds. You can legitimately brawl with this thing as long as you remember to keep your crosshairs within the red box.
I really cannot call Ao Jun OP, not with the other Greek alternatives running around. Pursuers, Striders, and Hovers (especially Hovers) can still take this bot's lunch money if they time their attack at the end of it fight right. The goal is just like the Greeks/ ancilots/ Bullys, get up in their gill and gut punch em!

Schquirrelschak, thanks for the update! Too bad I already uninstalled the TS app! Oh well. I never considered running the Ao Jun with Flux. Basically, you'd be giving up the onboard Ember - which doesn't really do much anyway - and getting very decent sniper ability. Seriously, who's gonna use Quantum Radar on a stealth target that is 1000m away?? Hmm.... that means people who've shelved their Sith Pattons can now recycled the maxed Gekkos on the Ao Qin and have a decent sniper that can reposition very quickly.

I've come to appreciate the role of a quick response sniper in a Fluxed falcon but the sheer speed of the Jun's flight makes rapid repositioning almost feel like backpedaling and out running rockets in like in times gone by. And you nailed the consideration of quantum radar being thwarted simply by range. I dont plan on using Heavy armour or other health boosters so my plan is to leverage superior mobility and 1000m ouch-beams to stay alive long enough for the brawly bots to do their thing and push beacons uncontested against pinned down reds. This strategy should work through expert (where I currently am) up through mid masters then a switch to a mid range loadout. I got no business in champion so that's why I tend towards a more range heavy hangar with Hovers to run interdiction and cap beacons with a level 9 hanagar.

Flux takes forever to build in the WS. If I get the Ao Jun for free, I think I might do Dragoons instead since I have a couple lying around.

Does anyone have any recent experiences to share about these bots from the last test server run? I didn't get a chance to try them out the last test server. The Ao Jun as a flying stealth bot is pretty damn powerful with two heavies and the built in auto aiming ember. It's tricky to pilot at first but you get used to it. I thought all of them were fun. All the whales are going get at least 1 in their main hangar and equip them with calamitys, exodus, embers, etc. Everyone will freak out because it's a monster.... stealth, essentially 3 heavies, fast. BUT it's suceptible to the Quantum Radar and will be sitting a duck IMO. Once they flood the playing field, I plan on running Quantum Radar on my dragoon bulwark and one other bot like a taran spectre to basically pick them out of the sky. I'm going to lay low and save up for an Au Guang. It's not near the force of an Ao Jun, but there's no counter to it. It's main ability is 66% damage reduction while in flight. And the homing rockets are actually pretty powerful. You put 3 high damage weps like tarans, scourges or orkans on this thing and it's brutal when in flight. No one will be running the Ao Qin unless they get it in a giveaway or if Pix runs it for super cheap. 4 light weapons and med leveled spark built in. No other ability except flight. I'm wasn't impressed with it. All the youtubers did some decent videos on them too if you look up the last test server.
