This advice is intended for lower leagues where kinetic weapons still play important roles but advanced energy weapons are slowly coming in. So, if you're in a bot equipped with Scourge or Spark (that hurt more the closer you get) and a bot approaches you with a shotgun, RUN AWAY! The following graph shows how damage changes over distance, nivelized to 100% at 400 m. It can be seen that Thunder/Storm/Gust damage increases much steeper with shorter distance than the damage of Scourge/Spark. For example, going against Thunder from 400 m to 150 m will increase Scourge/Spark damage by 83 % while Thunder pilot will deal more by 513 %. Against machine guns, it's better to run away at 250 m while below 250 m the machine guns should hit reliably and Scourge/Spark will be in better position closer to the opponent. (If you're the one in the kinetic weapons bot, the advice works just the opposite ![;)](//storage.proboards.com/forum/images/smiley/wink.png) ) ![](https://i.imgur.com/B6bNMVX.jpg)

Ageed. Also applies to plasma, keep your distance vs. kinetic.
I run an 8/8 storm/gust Gareth in Gold 2. If I don't get blown up by rockets it's great fun to go nose to nose with some bot without rockets and kill them.

The best way to make a scourge/spark bot last is to use and move between cover wisely. It's not a weapon for open air shooting and even though it does more damage close, the only reason to close is for the final kill or to take a beacon. Otherwise... just continue with the slow bleed from afar.
Were it not that I had them leveled so far I'd swap them for something with a faster lock on. 3 seconds is an eternity close quartered.
