Hello Forum: I'm enduring a crisis of faith in my War Robots gamesmanship and am looking for "clarification" more than a life plan.
I'm lvl 30 with a single hangar battling in EXPERT III-II... I average 420,000 dmg and my win % hovers around 50%. ( I have had good periods of up to 64% and downtime at 38%. Neither last longer than a few days.) I have been playing for about 2 years and have 5200+ victories. Max winning series: 15 Max destroyed: 10 Max damage: 1.22 million
I'm a pure F2P pilot due to child, house, bills, lack of income, pure stubbornness, etc.
I'm predominantly a beacon capper who runs to the sound of guns if a teammate is outnumbered and operate solo most of the time as my clan has widely varied time zones.
CURRENT HANGAR: LVL 11 MERCURY w/lvl 12 THUNDER/GUSTS LVL 12 INQUISITOR w/lvl 11 DRAGOON/lvl 12 STORMS LVL 12 GALAHAD w/lvl 12 SCOURGE/PUNISHER/lvl 10 SPARK LVL 12 GARETH w/lvl 12 SCOURGE/GUST LVL 12 KUMIHO w/lvl 12 ORKANS
(also have lvl 11 LEO w/lvl 12 TEMPEST/PINS and lvling a THUNDER/GUST STRIDER...+ Various mishmash of other unlvld bots)
So....after a long winded intro...
Am I where I should be, or do I stink at this game?
Most of the equal or higher ranked pilots I see have lesser leveled gear and fewer victories.
Should I be looking for a War Robots "mentor" or just get back into the trenches, stop whining and keep grinding? (Or both?)

Is that Gareth serving you well? I rarely see them and when I do they don’t last long. In lower leagues it’s good but not Expert+.
The Inquisitor is an odd build, Dragoon with Storms. Make it mid-range (Dragoon and Shocktrain or Scourge) or a full brawler (Thunder and Storms).
Based on your levels I’d say you could be in high Masters or Champion.
Also the Galahad is odd with the Punisher.
I think if you replace the Gareth with the Strider and homogenize some of you builds you’ll do better. Do you have decent situational awareness, do you buddy up and flank? Do you have other weapons leveled somewhat? Are there certain modes you’re worse at? If the issue is something about your strategizing we can’t tell that from a hangar. Maybe post a video or talk about the choices you make and where they go wrong and right.
However maybe you’ll prefer to stay in Expert. I’m in Masters 1 and don’t care for it, would rather be in Expert as those are the most fun when I’m pulled into them.
But ultimately it’s about having fun. If you really like running the Gareth then keep it.

Thanks for the response. Your questions are quite valid.... My INQUISITOR is a sub-optimal build... he's done "ok", but I only keep him like that as a compromise "cruiser" bot. He's really too slow for open field battles without draining decend all the time so I gave him a bit more reach. I have a lvl 5 EMBER and a pair of lvl 12 TARANS that I would prefer to use, but it leaves him naked in the desert or Springfield...but...if that's how it needs to be...
The PUNISHER on the GALAHAD is an attempt at a mele weapon that doesn't require lock on to go with the SCOURGE/SPARK and to come close to matching range. Light slot weps I have leveled are PINS/MAGS/GEKKO/PINATAS. Again...this is a cruiser/capper I am trying to cover ground with and be able to rumble with, staying out of ORKAN range. Will try different combinations of weps as suggested...have been grinding toward a HAECHI to replace him.
The GARETH is surprisingly good as a pure capper/flanker/wingman... I have pinned down SHOCK SPECTERs on a regular basis and taken out more than his share of ANCILOTS and DASH bots, but I am lvling the STRIDER as his replacement. Weapon choice is ecclectic... looking to outrange ORKS, but still have good close in power to dogfight for a beacon.
In TDM... I will partner as a wingman with most anyone, but have difficulty rejoining a teammate who just runs off or gets himself killed during an engagement.
My goal is to be a good support player/capper and I typically will cap 3 in a game and draw fire from 2-3 bots...but can't seem to get my team to take advantage of numerical edge as I am getting hammered.
I'm not consistently weak or good at any battle type...have been top and bottom scorer on all battlefields and game types except FFA where I'm usually at the bottom... finished 3rd a few times...
I feel I need a mentality shift that will guide weps/bots selection...but thinking isn't a strong suit of mine. (Hopefully funny)

Hi. Im in a similar spot to you, always sitting around E3/2 android and tbh its the best place to be. : ) If your looking to get above expert ranks (which I wouldnt suggest) then ide say you need more firepower, your trying to stay out of brawling range but with weapons that dont offer you enough bang. If I was you i would ....... Switch the thunder onto the quizzy and play it hard! The Mercury works awesome with Ember/magnums : ) on close maps this build gets me GODLIKE regularly. Switch the punisher off the galahad with the other scourge your running so that you can lock all weapons and use the shield side on. Ide keep your kumi setup as is and make this primary beacon capper. The Gary as much as i love mine is only good for 1st beacon in Expert imo and is costing you.. low hp ..low fp. I wouldnt bother with strider its on par with your kumi tbh and not worth a slot. Ide aim for either a heichi or spectre for that slot, and youll be set : ) Heres me. 1st hangar for close maps and kicking 「bum-bum」! 2nd hangar for when i get dumped in tedious death match on long maps. I use this hangar too slow my progress in leagues ; ) ; )

Should I be looking for a War Robots "mentor" or just get back into the trenches, stop whining and keep grinding? (Or both?) 1. respect, you have a ton of wins. 2. mk1 stuff - stay in expert. The game is Fâd, youâll have to go up against MK2 hangars but it only gets worse in masters and champs. 3. forget about average damage and win %. they are meaningless stats now. 4. your hangar is a kind of a hot mess right now: thunder/gust mercury - seems solid, keep it inquisitor - 「whiskey tango foxtrot」 bro? this is awful. Put the tarans/ember on it and upgrade the ember. Thatâs one of the best builds in the game! leaves him naked in Springfield? lmfao. Use him in the city portion, not out in the open. Galahad - borderline bot in expert. Iâd advise against. I run one in my for fun hangar, not my main hangar. But if you keep it definitely you need to replace the punisher with another spark - I love puns but theyâre weak af now. And only 3 weapon slots for the gala (and 2 of them are light), you canât screw around. Gareth - lose it! every bot has its moments. Iâve killed bots in Champions League with level 1 Cossacks... ok.... Gareth has probably had sick moments for you - against bad pilots. Anytime I see a Gareth itâs dead in less than 3 seconds. Throw a griffin or Lancelot in there and you have way more firepower when you need it. Kumiho - good, keep it unless you want to replace with the strider, 1 beacon capper is enough. Leo is target practice. Do a tempest/molot Lance or something. your main problem is youâre running a light/medium bot hangar, you only have 1 heavy bot. in expert league up it should be the other way around, like 3 or 4 heavies or haechiâs and spectres. also you donât have a dedicated MR/LR bot. Fix that. you have options with scourges, tulus, dragoon, tempest. Shotguns are cool but you like them too much. 1 shotgun bot is enough. just keepin it 100 with you man, hope this helped. Peace.

Thanks for the input... Was wondering about the STRIDER....have only run it at its low level, but seemed to do better with the GARETH consistently.
Would have to get a SPARK to replace the PUNISHER... SCOURGE is medium slot.
Am attempting to obtain a HAECHI....but SPECTRE is really tough.

Rags.... I hear ya.
Not offended.. I asked you answered...up to me if I do anything with what you say.
Basically, your saying from what you see, I have a firepower deficit.
I can make some changes immediately...others will take time/ resources....
At least I'm not crazy....
As far as y'all can tell....

OK...INQUISITOR is now THUNDER/TARAN...I 86'd the PUNISHER on the GALAHAD and installed a lvl 12 MAGNUM.... The EMBER needs more work before I can run it, but I quit roaming the battlefield in the QUIZ....now stalking and cutting throats. Need to get the LEO more involved...he's a TEMPEST/PIN build right now, but I do have MOLOTS lvld if y'all think that build is valid in EXPERT.
Mostly, I'm working on increasing damage/kills, but hopefully not neglecting beacons or my support of teammates....
I am having more fun....even if I get my @$$ kicked, I mutilate my killer and score big damage. Leveling myself up to MASTER will happen or it won't, NBD...
Back to original posit....is my mind right as a competitor or have I gone off the deep end?

There is no “right place” in War Robots. If you’re having fun with that style of hangar and your place in the league then enjoy. Posting here could mean you want to progress a little, in which case then solid advice above.
My two cents: you state your focus is on beacons and your hangar reflects that. Moving up leagues - as counter intuitive as it is - is not about winning. It’s about damage output - both in your hangar and as a mindset for playstyle. Your hangar levels are a little higher than what I’d expect to see in iOS Expert, but invested in builds that are not maximizing damage. If you fill your hangar with bots that have lots of medium slots and can survive better (dash, stealth, shocktrain, orkans, Tarans, etc) you will increase damage output and with it league standing.
But is that fun for you?

Ya. You're right where you should be. Still having fun? That's all that matters.
Run what you want and the league sorts you out based on your skill, hangar, playstyle etc. eventually. I hover between low champ and M1 with less leveled bots and similarly leveled weapons. I also have 3 mk2 lvl 12 ST that I bring out during clan play.
I also have a smurf account in gold 1/2 that I'm just trying to get all bots/weapons to 9/9.
Somedays I enjoy playing the alt account more based on the diversity and longer games vs. getting spectred or scourged early and often in Champions League.

Have you tried switching those two Scourges onto the Inquisitor? Seems like its a better fit with the Dragoon. Storms seem better for the brit bots. Always good to match up weapons ranges.

I ran a SHOTTIE GARY for quite a while...fun to play...dusted a plasma QUIZ who blew his load on my shield and froze when I came out of the smoke, shieldless and scorched, and shoved a GUST up his nose...I got killed immediately afterward when a RHINO sneezed on me...but I would have loved to have seen that pilots face. Brit bots die like a tissue paper condom against rockets, the SCOURGES are there to keep me out of ORKAN range... but...l am willing to experiment...transfer TARANS to the Brits... But I do like the reach when the Brits engage SHOCKS....

For the time being (until I level up my EMBER) I'm running a lvl 11 THUNDER & lvl 12 TARANS on the INQUISITOR....works great when I do my job.... Still have the GARETH in...tried the LEO with mid builds and long range, but have had equal to better success with my GARY. Just trying to keep him away from rockets...KUMIHO is starter bot for KOTH and battles on CARRIER/YAMANTAU....with the GARY showing up in RED backfield like a fly at a picnic. (I draw 2-3 bots after me)
PIXO economy is slowing bot/wep leveling down....STRIDER is lvl 8 with lvl 5 GUSTS....need to finish EMBER...
Looking to get a HAECHI to replace my GALAHAD as resources allow...STRIDER and HAECHI will allow HAECHI to carry 2 lvl 12 SCOURGE from Brit bots....
Believe it or not, SHOCKTRAIN SPECTRES don't like BRIT BOTS that can run them down...and GARETHs typically get ignored until it's too late by snipers.....
I'm working with what I have and having more fun.... scoring a few more kills while still grabbing beacons....
Thanks for the check up from the neck up....

By making your hangar more effective you will rise in rank. Given the high levels you have, you will end up in C. And there you must have a whole different approach. And hanagar. If you want to fight hard. Just a seed of thought.

First off, don't worry too much about the league. It's only really helpful if you want more supply drops. Your levels are higher than mine and I'm not a F2P player by any stretch of the imagination. But then, in comparison, I'm running 3 hangars. I was in Diamond for a long time but I pretty much breezed through Expert. What got me up the leagues wasn't skill. It was the new weapons I got and the new mode FFA. The Shocktrain got me out of Diamond and FFA made me whiz right through Expert 1 and into Masters.
My opinion is much like everyone else's. You should pair weapons based on their range and/or type. Dragoon and Storms? Weird. Decided if that Inky is a MR build or an ambusher. Between the Gareth and Galahad, I would just pick one and run that. I favour the Galahad over the Gareth personally. You can do Scourge/Spark/Punisher on it for versatility or replace the Punisher with a Gust for a close range surprise. The Mercury is fine as it, but you might want to consider replacing the Thunder with an Avenger. I just got an Avenger and will begin leveling it up over the weekend to see if my hypothesis pans out (that the Avenger is better suited on the Mercury than the Thunder).
Since you're F2P, try to plan out the eventual builds you want. If you get a new component weapon, you don't even need to wait for it to be high level before you use it to get an idea of how it fits with your hangar.

If you want to fight hard. Just a seed of thought. Thanks for the insight.... After hearing something similar from another couple of pilots, I'm trying to not beat myself up about not flying through the ranks. This is my first "first person shooter" that I have played and getting all wound up over a game looks pretty stupid on a 50 year old man. (50 is the new 40...things that old people say to feel better.... I felt old at 40, but that may be milage) I'm realizing that there is a CHAMPION'S LEAGUE because there are some truly 「deteriorated bum-bum」 PILOTS around the world....Weak P2W players ( NOT SAYING ALL OR EVEN MOST P2W PLAYERS ARE WEAK, BUT LET'S FACE IT, THERE ARE SOME WHO ARE WHERE THEY ARE BECAUSE OF THEIR POCKETBOOK.) may get to CHAMP....but will never stay because you can't buy talent. I may not belong in CHAMPION...or even MASTER...if I'm good enough, as long as I don't quit, a path there will take shape. Currently, MASTERS typically go through me like crap through a goose...so I better get better if I want to play in their sandbox...the new economy is making it impractical to grind out better bots and weps in time to make a difference.

KOALABEAR; I don't believe weps/bots make the pilot.... If you made it to MASTERS and have stayed there or moved up, you belonged there. You're making what you have work. I'm stuck because I'm not adapting...this is what I'm now trying to do.
Took the PUNISHER off the GALAHAD and replaced with a MAGNUM...not a big change, but seems to work better.
Leveling an EMBER for the QUIZ...till it's installed, running a THUNDER with TARANS. No more cruising the Badlands, stalk and kill.
Have had more success with the GARY than I think I should have, but the STRIDER should open more doors.
Still grinding toward a HAECHI, probable replacement for GALAHAD....
I won a RAIJIN & FUJIN....but don't really like them. (I probably just don't know how to fight with them)
All the comments I have read make me think I'm too obsessed with capping and need to do more fighting/damage. Only 1/4 of normal games reward you (ranking wise) for beacon caps and my BRIT BOTS' weakness against rockets keeps me out of FFA...so, like you said, time to adjust my hangar to what scores points...but I have to work what I have till then.
This forum has been great so far.... I'm still beating my head against the wall, but at least someone has shown me the door...
I may even learn to turn the knob....

This forum has been great so far.... I'm still beating my head against the wall, but at least someone has shown me the door... I may even learn to turn the knob.... Nailed it. League advancement depends on placing in game modes. Knowing what to shoot for (pun intended) will advance you further. Capture points and beacons are premium in KotH and damage is the goal in all other modes to get positive points. I want to make it clear that I'm not telling you to advance in ranks at this time. When I posted in this thread earlier I wrote that you are where you should be. I meant it. If you are having a hard time now it only gets harder as you progress. My advice: continue to build your hangar. Hone your skills in the different game modes. Join a clan that uses discord to squad. I'd been playing less than a year before I joined Hand of Fate and shortly after joining I scored my first million. PM me if you want to check it out.
