So after 3 - 4 months of grind, I've made it to Champion league... without spending any money whatsoever on the game. I've lost more than I've won, but even in defeat I've consistently placed in the top 2. Zeus Carnage has been my workhorse since the upper Gold/ lower Diamond leagues... I love it's versatility as a beacon capper and a mid range powerhouse combined. However, now, in the Champion league... I find my Carny (in the last game I played actually) faced with not one, but 2 Orkan kumiho's right from the first beacon dash. I did my best, almost took one out in a game of cat and mouse before I ran into yet another component bot driving member of an all high level comp bot red team. Which sometimes is okay, if the rest of my blues also happen to be whales. I can hold my own... I don't place top 3, but I certainly contribute. But I'm finding myself more and more on the losing side. Unfortunately, it is dawning very quickly on me that to compete in Champion league, realistically, one must be prepared to pay... literally. And I'm not (might buy enough gold for a paint job one day just to thank Pixonic for what is, face it, an excellent game).
So, back to my point. I am going to see the season out in Champ league if I can... just to get those few winged trophies to show that I've been here (British Knight woz 'ere), after that... I will be tanking down. This is not to win gold in easier matches... it's simply to compete more at my own level as a F2P player. I need some advice on which league though. I found everything from Diamond to Master leagues quite enjoyable with an acceptable degree of challenge as I progressed. I'm not sure where to tank down to, and I was hoping you guys could give me some advice based on your own experience?
My current hangar follows:
Carnage/10 Zeus/8 Zeus/9
Fujin/7 Taran/7 Taran/5 Taran/8
Griffin/7 Molot T/9 Molot T/10 Molot/7 Molot/8
Griffin/8 Storm/7 Storm/6 Gust/6 Gust/5
Fury/8 Thunder/8 Thunder/6 Thunder/8
I am also working behind the scenes on levelling my Kumiho that I finally got enough components for a couple days ago from the offers and Royale. She's at level 4 atm and I'll be focusing exclusively on upgrading her until she's level 9 at least, at which point she'll probably replace my Fujin or Gunship Griffin.
Anyway, I haven't been playing this game for very long, like I said... 3 - 4 months. And though I've got to Champion league, I'd very much appreciate any words of wisdom from the more seasoned players in the community. Whether with regards to League or Hangar or individual Set-ups Thanks guys.

Try and collect a Spectre or Pursuer (or Bulgasari, Haechi or Inquisitor) for free, using Royale and daily deals. They will help you a lot. Focus on one bot at a time.

Just play naturally. You will settle in the appropriate league. Honestly once your in champ it’s hard to go back unless deliberately.
Just float in high masters

Oh, and btw... Thunders would be better suited on your Carnage and the Zeuses on your Fury, I guess.
Thunders do more damage the closer you get to the target. That’s easier to do for a Carnage, than a Fury. And with the Fury you can just lock target behind cover at 500-600m, move out of cover, fire, move back behind cover, ad infinitum.
I used Zeuses on my Carnage for a while, but I never owned a Fury.

I usually keep the Fury back in case the spawn point is overrun... nothing like bringing that out under 100m from a group of battle-worn reds. Very satisfying. But I think you're probably right, I'll switch it up tomorrow and give it a test run. I did quite like Thunder Carnage, but once I put 2 Zeuses on it I didn't really give it a second thought. P.s... Spectre is next on my list lol. Although I have been having a surprising amount of fun with Strider in Skirmish recently.

Just float in high masters Trouble is I keep gaining League points even when I lose... like you say it's hard to drop down unless you tank. But on the flip side I don't really want to stay in a league where I'm losing consistently. I'll give Champion a chance, see if the odds even out at all, then maybe drop down to Master. I guess trial and error is the only way to find out.

@british Knight You at least saved yourself the frustration and expense of chasing the meta but Pix will find ways to frustrate a saint.

Guess I'm lucky then Maybe all these people complaining about how unfair it is should switch to Amazon.

Guess I'm lucky then Maybe all these people complaining about how unfair it is should switch to Amazon. As cheap as Kindle Fire is... I've considered it. Just to get away from the crap.
But I'm pretty heavily invested in two accounts and I've already had to let one languish for too long... The game isn't bad enough... yet... to make me give up the progress made on both.
I did say, "yet", though.
IMO, YMMV

. First off, tanking is bad sportsmanship. It also pisses people off. Why not try varying your hangar up from high damage bots to low damage bots and then play normally. You’d be surprised but a piñata stalker or a Taran gareth are both really fun bots to run; the flip side is that you’ll constantly place lower than 3rd ergo bringing your league down, legally. I have some good videos on playing low damage setups on my YouTube channel. Even right now, I don’t run my main brawler hangar, I run all mediums. Hellburner, kumiho, pursuer, strider and something else. I don’t last long but I generally stay in expert league where I enjoy most games (even if I am yelling at my teammates for not helping flank or grabbing a beacon) So to your original question, you prolly shouldn’t be above expert 2 with that hangar. I’ve been playing since update 0.9, so prolly about 4 years
