Just curious, is the carnage Zeus viable in the top tier? If so, which is better, carnage Zeus or Fury Zeus. Thanks in advance!

Quick disclaimer: I don't own Zeus on the main server and probably will never own them.
I don't think Zeus is particularly useful compared to knifer set-ups, but if you are truly passionate about the zeus then nobody is going to you from getting one.
I personally think trident is a better choice than zeus mainly because of the splash damage, keep in your mind the zeus cannot touch the shielded ones. Do not be fooled by the DPM chart (below), it shows zeus with a 1.5x higher DPM than the trident but it doesn't account for the shielded bots which is the current meta.
Facts & math asides, while experimenting with Zeus on the test server, I have found the Zeus to be best used on Raijin. Raijin's shield is generally extremely durable which can and will endure the most damage out of the trio. I actually enjoyed zapping motha「fluffernutter」as while being invulnerable to most things.
It all boils down to the player's preference, you could be free to use carnage with zeus, the shield and the speed gives the bot extreme sniper survivability. Using Fury with the zeus is a viable strategy but it costs a whopping 4500 Au just for three zeus and another 5000 Au for fury which brings the total to a staggering 9500Au just to maintain a 「dookie」ty midranger that can be easily eaten up by fast bots that cost no Au.
TL;DR Use Zeus with Carnage or Raijin. Don't use Zeus with Fury.

I've noticed substatially more anciles and fujins and Carnage has always been the perfect target for Zeus (being a Carny pilot I should know). Zeus' penetrative capabilty is worth noting.

I have two on my carnage. I am switching out to tridents once I level them up. My thinking is based solely on splash and I am tired of having to have targets come out from cover. On open maps Zeus rules but I want to optimize my damage potential. I will switch back if I am dissapointed in my results.

It is viable in top tier, but you need crazy knife fighting and beacon capping support.

I own three Zeus, and I run them occasionally on my carnage or fury. Overall I find them disappointing. It's difficult to jump from target to target with the lock time, trident builds will step into range, fire and retreat while you're still locking on. You can't hit around cover and everyone always maximizes cover usage. You can only hit one target at a time too.
Run Tridents instead. They have far more utility and value vs cost.
