I've been playing a new game and I thought I would share it here for anyone who is feeling frustrated with War Robots and wants something else. Infinity Ops used to be called Destiny Warfare, and as far as I can tell, is only on Android. It's a FPS game and it's the only FPS game I've been able to play on my phone. In general, I'm a vacuum cleaner when it comes to any FPS games. I used to be able to play them, like Halo on my XBox, but as the years went by, I found I couldn't keep up with the fast movements, tiny enemies and guns that can kill you in one shot. I even tried PUBG, and to me, that was 4 minutes of wandering around and 2 seconds of being shot and killed. Infinity Ops is PvP only with no campaign mode. There are some P2W elements, but the prices are much more reasonable, and you can still grind if you want and still do well. I'll explain below.
Money
There are 2 types of currency. Credits and Gold. You earn credits for playing. 13 credits for winning and 3 credits if you lose. If you leave a game before it's over, you get no credits. Credits are fairly easy to come by, and they are used for things like weapon repair, buying some weapons, and buying some upgrades. Gold is harder to come by and you use it for the "good stuff". You get gold from opening chests, completing daily challenges, leveling up, etc.
Weapons
There are 3 tiers of weapons. Basic, premium and legendary. You get a few basic weapons to start out with and as you level up, you get access to better things. And before you ask, you can buy a legendary weapon for about $15 CAD. Basic and premium weapons deteriorate over time and with use and needs credits to be repaired. Legendary weapons do not break. Premium and legendary weapons usually give you some sort of buff, like higher jumps, more health, more armour, etc.
Classes
These are the characters you play. While they keep advertising "package" deals for the classes with weapons and stuff for a low low price, I found that when I reached level 10, I opened a chest and poof, I got a Killer class just like that. I thought I got really lucky until I noticed that soon after, I was fighting with people who ALL had classes, so don't quote me, but I think the game gives you a random class when you reach level 10. Before you ask, the Killer class is the sniper. Least HP, but has no radar signature so you can really sneak up on people.
Chests
When I first started, I thought this game was P2W and actually uninstalled it at first (when it was called Destiny Warfare). I actually reinstalled it by accident as Infinity Ops. I thought the game was P2W cause I was getting killed all the time, and the other players all had advanced weapons. Well, that was before I realized what the chests were. The chests offer things other than gold or credits. They offer leases to the advanced weapons. Call it a preview. The leases are short, but you can spend a little gold for a longer lease. And when I leveled up, I sometimes got a full day lease on a legendary weapon. So, basically, THAT was how the other players/recruits were getting good weapons. Plus, when you kill a player, walk over their body and you can pick up their weapon and use it. There are also crates in the maps that offer advanced weapons too.
Gameplay
Those familiar with Call of Duty will like that this game has some features of CoD - namely the double jump. When you jump, you can hit jump again and it activates your jetpack, which allows you to reach height really fast. This is especially useful for the Killer class as you want to get to high ground for sniping (or pick off other snipers who had the same idea). There's also an aiming mode that lets you get more bullets on target at the cost of mobility. What makes this game playable for an old fart like me though is that the pace is slower, and there's a cool auto-fire feature and a cool auto level feature. You can turn these features off if you're a hardcore FPS gamer, but for me, they're awesome. No more trying to follow a target and fire at the same time. I just have to keep the target in my sights and the gun will fire automatically. You run through ammo faster this way true, but heck, I've never lasted long enough to run out of ammo yet! The auto level feature is cool too. I thought it just leveled your view, but ever since I turned it on, I've noticed that it auto levels to a target for me - even one that I can't see with my tired eyes. I've even shot targets that were hiding in trees because of this (and been hit by people hiding in trees too).
P2W or not?
Well, after several days of grinding, I had enough credits to buy a basic sniper rifle. Judging the cost of the legendary weapons, I'd be playing for a VERY long time before I could afford one. But, the basic sniper rifle was enough to give me a sense of how to play as a sniper. Enough of a sense that yes, I spent the money to buy enough gold to buy the legendary sniper rifle. This rifle and my character class were meant to be an item. What took me 3 or 4 shots to do with the basic sniper rifle, I could now do with 1 or 2 shots. Pay to win? Perhaps, but I see it more as having fun and supporting the developer. Plus, I've been getting smoked plenty of times by other people who are using the basic and the premium sniper rifles. So, I'm NOT winning every game, but I do have an edge over younger players! Some of the maps do NOT favour sniping either, so on those maps, I'm at a distinct disadvantage, legendary sniper or not.
Game modes galore!
There are many game modes to choose from. If you just hit the Battle button, the game will put you randomly into a game mode that is currently available. Entering a game is pretty fast because unlike War Robots, people can enter and leave games at will. Yes, this can cause some unbalanced games, but at the same time, if you lose, you don't really lose anything. No league points here! The only thing you lose is the chance to win 13 credits or 3 credits. The games are short too. Maybe 6 minutes or so. So, if I lose, I just shrug it off and wait for the next game to load. And if I get really frustrated due to some highly skilled players, I'll just leave and join a different game.
There are things like Team Deathmatch, Deathmatch, Hardcore, Duel, Launcher Battle (everyone gets grenade launchers), Base Defense and Custom. Sometimes though, these modes don't have players. I think this game is still in its infancy. I sometimes have as few as 3 or 4 players in a game to as many as 8-10.
So far so good. I'm having fun in this game. Yes, I've paid some money, but nowhere near what I've spent on War Robots. If I just want a quick match of mayhem, I'll just load up this game and I'm off. One down side is that it seems to use more resources than War Robots. My phone gets hotter faster and my battery drains faster too. But, that's just par for the course since the graphics in this game are awesome.
