***No Spoilers***
Just saw Pacific Rim 2. Anyone else see it? What are your thoughts?
I think it was better than the first. The story was better.
What do you think?

I saw it....and was underwhelmed. Story was predictable but did have some nice tie-ins to the first movie. I wish they had summed up what happened to the protagonist in the first movie. Something quick like "he died of ..." or something would have been sufficient. The fight scenes were great but lost a lot of the majesty of the first movie. There were several scenes where you simply forgot how big the robots and the kaiju were, whereas in the first movie, you NEVER lost that sense of wonder. I think the change in directors was a mistake, but maybe they couldn't get Guillero Del Toro back. He's incredible at making the fantastic come to life on the big screen. There were problems with the movie though...like why was the ONLY cadet to die the token Indian kid? Also, they should have made the movie at least 20 minutes longer to give the other cadets some back story. Instead, there was no emotional attachment to any of the cadets except for the one girl that they focused on since the beginning of the movie. If they had just fleshed out the story more, bulked up all the robots more, slowed the action a mite, and had more camera shots that showed the scale of the fights, the movie would have been much better. As it was, it was fun romp that made good use of the D-Box vibrating seats. At least I got a great massage!

There were enough twists in the second to keep me interested. The Indian kid's death bothered me too. I also agree, at times the sense of scale was lost. I didn't want a lot of rehashing of the first movie and a lot of training because we saw all that in the first movie. I liked Boyega's character though. Scott Eastwood should have had more story.

I also enjoyed it much more than the first one. Was it a great movie? No. But it was really fun and the style of the giant robots were much more satisfying than transformers. #WeNeedLiveActionGundam!!

Did you notice the all gray Gundam statue in the movie? They have a life-size, moving Gundam statue in Daiba city near Tokyo. They just installed the second iteration a few months ago. China built a knock-off statue a couple of years ago.

I thought the Gundam statue was going to be a top secret Jaeger! Gundam is only 30 meters tall. The Jaegers are 80meters. Yeah, I know, but I was hoping the girl would jump into the Gundam and it would be a mini Jaeger like Scrapper, pull out it's beam rifle and start blasting away...yes, wishful thinking. At least we'll probably see a Gundam in the Ready Player One movie. Honestly, they've proven that they make a good giant robot movie and make good money from it as long as it's got excellent effects and a half decent story. They've also proven that they can ruin a good thing if the story absolutely sucks (Transformers). If someone can get the licenses for say Gundam or even Battletech, there's tons of rich stories there. I wouldn't tackle the main story line for Gundam though. Way too much to wade through, but they can easily do a "day in the life of" like that most recent Dredd movie. Heck, one of my favorite Gundam stories had almost NOTHING to do with the main Gundam story line and had no Newtype mumbo jumbo at all. Gundam 0083 Stardust Memory was 13 20 minute episodes. That just over 4 hours running time total. You can squeeze into a decent 2 hour movie, or have fuller stories and do 2 movies out of it. Easy. Or pick an even shorter one, Gundam 0079 War in the Pocket. Plucky and somewhat annoying main character who's a kid that many kids can relate to, hot girl test pilot for the Gundam, idealistic Zaku spy who's trying to steal the Gundam and falls in love with the test pilot and the two duke it out without either ever realizing the other was the enemy. See, easy.

So glad I don't go to the cinema anymore. I'd have had to walk out of Pacific Rim 2. What a fekking wahnky piece of shyte. I know, let's have a Benetton advert of stroppy brats rule a committee think script designed to suck up to the Chinese audience who tipped the original into profitability. 1.5 hours until the first Kaiju, are you kidding me? I'm getting real tired of this character - the empowered zany teen trash talking genius who can do anything bullsheeet. It annoyed me in Black Panther as well.

I watched them both. Went to PR2 with my grandson. I thought PR1 was way better. Better story line, better acting, edgier, and at least fresh. My 10 year old grandson loved it and that about sums it up.

I've been sitting through the cycle of watchability on Yesmovies First there's the dody 'cam in the cinema' version Then there's a decent version but it'll have korean subtitles that take up most of the screen. And then out comes the HD version without compulsory subtitles.
PR2 started steaming proper on the weekend. All that anticipation and for this. Weak.
I was about to be even more furious because what if Del Toro had indeed gotten to go ahead with Mountains of Madness, a bunch of stroppy zany teens in the Antarctic facing a Shoggoth? I may well have killed him for that.
Then I found out he doodled some Jaegers, doodled some Kaiju. Picked a director and sodded off to do Shape of Water.
The ONLY good thing about PR2 is that Del Toro wasn't actually involved.
It definitely enters my top three most awful movies I despise but is still behind Phantom Menace, because at least PR2 didn't brutally 「grape」 and then pyss on it's predecessor, soiling it for all time.
