What am I doing wrong? When my team wins I'm last, win no gold & my player rating goes up. When my team loses I'm first, win no gold & my rating goes up. Any tips?

I've switched my tactics to focus on beacon capturing. There is already a trade-off between damage output versus taking beacons in general. As such, I've changed my builds to focus more on penetration tactics with much more mid-range damage and splash damage. Since the new MM seems to rate us mostly on average damage per match, and nobody really minds a pilot that does little damage along with a bunch of captures, seems to me the best bet is to help win the match while placing at the bottom of the list. I'm seeing swarms of Stalkers in the first few minutes of most matches, and stiff competition for the Medal of Capture award. I think both are ripple effects. I'm seriously tempted to make a L10/10 Ecu Cossack, or three...

Who was that guy who played a hangar of 5 12/12 Stalkers? 'Another One'?
Turns out he was the future.

What am I doing wrong? When my team wins I'm last, win no gold & my player rating goes up. When my team loses I'm first, win no gold & my rating goes up. Any tips? I had this problem. I used to run 6/9 heavies with a 70-80% win rate. With the new matchmaker I was still topping damage charts with TT players, but I barely earned any gold when we did win matches, because I was supporting the big guys, not outshining them. Using my Galahads was an exercise in futility with all the Tridents out there. This is what I've been running the last few days. Beacon captures are from 2-10, with an average of 5-6, meaning if we win I'm always taking home 5 gold. I still do enough damage to be annoying and kill a few bots here and there. With my mobility I can weaken reds all over making them easier to kill. Perhaps the best thing about them though is that I can effectively distract 2-3 reds when I go for side beacons, allowing our heavies to defend the center beacons. About half the time I bot out, but I'm earning silver and gold at a fair pace.

I started running two Gareth's, and drop them late in the match after everyone else has expended their beacon runners. I use more firepower early, when runners are everywhere and destroying them is paramount, and then late in the match, if I've gone through three bots, odds are good I'll need beacons. So that's when I drop my two Gareth's and go to town on beacons. Nice thing about Gary is, he can hold his own against stronger bots as well as run beacons.
I've also adapted my tactics to far more patience. Aggressiveness will only get you killed in this new MM - I move to a strong m threatening position, and then force the enemy to engage me on my terms. Which are far better for me than their terms.
Since adding the second plasma Gary and adjusting my tactics, my winrate has been creeping back upwards. Now I'm at 60%, and trying to raise that. Average damage is 415k and climbing.
