I made this curve based on some data points I got. Hope it helps if anyone wants to spend hard-earned gold for instant upgrading. It is generally considered a waste of gold for upgrading, but I think for players with excess of gold and want to play TT sooner under the new MM, it is okay to spend gold on those 4-5 days of upgrading. Consider this my first contribution to this forum.

Yup, I agree. If you have surplus gold its works. Personally I wait until its halfway through the leveling cycle or so, then finish it.

I have a similar chart (forgot who posted it on the old wiki, but credit to them for putting the numbers together). However when you calculate how much gold is spent per hour, you maximize your expenditure the longer the upgrade. Speeding up an upgrade @ 24 hours (1day) costs 351 gold, or 14.63 gold per hour. Speeding up an upgrade @ 72 hours (3 days) costs 567 gold, or 7.88 gold per hour. Speeding up an upgrade @ 130 hours (5 day 10 hours) costs 830 gold, or 6.38 gold per hour. Basically "if" you're going to instamax, you might as well do it when the upgrade time is at the longest. The shorter the upgrade, the more gold you "waste".

Those are per minute, not hour, yes? Edit: Nm, I can math, ignore me.

Since Au clubbing/farming has been curtailed, spending Au on upgrades only makes sense if you already have 400M+ Ag, all weapons/bots at level 11, you have all the gold bots/weapons you wanted to buy already, AND you at least 20K Au on hand.
However, even if you already have all the resources I stated, why would anyone buy up an insta-max top hangar when MM will just throw lower level pilots into your matches if you start winning too much?

My problem is more time than gold... I end up buying upgrades out so I can queue up the next one without a significant interruption. A simple example is if the upgrade is going to finish at 4 am on a weeknight, then I'm going to buy it and queue up the next one before I hit the sack. It just takes too damn long to upgrade things in this game to have the upgrade queue idle for hours.

They are falling on the same curve.

Its cost effective for me, cause I don't carry large surplus of gold, and I don't blow a huge amount of gold in one shot. I end up using what would take to instantly upgrade one weapon, to upgrade 2 weapons in 1/2 the time. Works for me. Besides its my gold. Convenience has a value, and 2 for 1 is pretty goodies I don't have enough gold to cover two instant lvl ups at once. This is especially true ifIm doing lots of upgrading.

I have them all end at times that I can easily start the next. It's definitely helped, and I haven't experienced any "down time" where I have no upgrades running. I've literally ran upgrades 24/7 for the past 6 months since I started monitoring end/start times.

upgrades 24/7 for the past 6 months! how many hangers full of 12/12s have you got so far? I can't imagine he has even one hangar of 12/12 based on six months of upgrading alone. One rhino takes over two weeks to level 12... but including weapons, you're looking at something more like two months. For one robot. Six months won't get you to a single full hangar of 12/12 unless you're choosing the smallest bots with the fewest hardpoints. Or spending gold (which is clearly what the developer would prefer). I've been running upgrades 24/7 for 3 months with less than 10 hours of total downtime, and don't have a single bot above level 6 or weapon above level 8. Admittedly that includes more than five sets of different weapons loadouts, plus a little time (maybe a week or so) spent leveling light and medium bots (5 each) to levels 3 and 4, respectively, in addition to my 5 heavies at level 6. Three months from now, I hope to have one heavy hangar up to a level 9-10 mix.

Insta-upgrade at the beginning is most cost effective per unit, but not necessarily the best given the potential lump sum amount. Or ability to start next upgrade if you are silver strapped.
IMHO, best use is on medium and heavy weapons, 10-12. Heavy bots 10-12. Light weapons are pretty short duration, even from 11-12.
Other consideration is timing. I spend gold when an upgrade is gonna end after I go to bed since I don't want to eat that downtime.

Fury 11,12 Mags (2x) 12 Orkans (2x) 12 Ancile 11,12 I did pull a maxed thunder off my Lance for the Ancile. So (technically) I have just 6 upgrades to go if I wanted a full 12 hangar. Yep, the time needed to max shouldn't be underestimated (nor the AG needed to fund the upgrades)...

Hmmm I seem to remember back in the day that cost for upgrades using gold was around 10 per hour... 6 months ago? so 24 hours was around 240 gold...
Anyone know when they changed this?
I suppose this is all in line with Pixonic having new owners trying to maximize spenders

This is probably why I've seen a big dropoff in my friends playing less... so many changes (negatively impacting players) so quickly

I was never able to keep up with upgrade times... this next upgrade is 6.1M and you have 1D and 13H... Not saying I can't farm 6.1M in that time but it's simply impossible for me to do every day for months.
