Hi everyone,
I'll try to keep this as simple as possible. This inventory list only includes stuff that I like to use and have, and/or have enough gold for (all included).
WEAPONS all level 8
Light Medium Heavy 6 x Magnum 4 x Taran 2 x Thunder 6 x Pinata 4 x Orkan 2 x Zeus/Trident 3 x Aphid
BOTS all level 4
Light Medium Heavy 4 x Gepard* 2 x Galahad 2 x Lancelot 2 x Gary 1 x Carnage 2 x Griffin 1 x Rogatka 2 x Leo 1 x Fury
The questions:
1) Make the best "mid-game" (for the lack of a better word) hangar out of this, meaning mostly medium bots.
My idea was 2 x Plasma Gary (beacons), 2 x Galahad (1 splash/1 plasma), 1 x Carnage (Zeus).
2) And then the best "end-game" hangar, meaning a mix of meds for beacons and heavies for lifting.
My idea was 2 x Galahad (beacons), 2 x Lance (1 splash/1 plasma), 1 x Fury (Zeus/Trident).
Preference-wise... My preferences are speed/beacon capping, and plasma/energy weapons when it comes to fights or mid-range. I will level everything up to 8/8 and then go from there.
*I got 1 Gep from flakes (yay) and 2 from 1k coin chests (nay, FML).

The mid-game hangar is workable, can't suggest much there since anything else I could suggest is subject to personal preference.
For the end-game hangar, though, I'd tell you to at least consider Griffins in place of Lancelots. Lancelots are hella slow, so they're a witch (with a B) to drive on big maps. DB Griffins also have pretty neat tricks to play on low-cover maps like DC and PP (especially PP). My "end-game" hangar is very similar to yours - Plasma Galahad, Aphid/Taran Galahad, DB Griffin, Ork/Thunder Lancelot and Trident Fury.

You're giving us only few options For the mid-game setup, one beacon runner is plenty. I used to run 2x Galahad / Fujin / 2xBoa and it worked really well, very often netting me 10 gold a match. Galahads are fast enough to cap beacons if levelled up, and they can also defend the beacons. I guess my best "mid-game" setup of mediums would be 2x Plasmahad, Thunder Carnage, Orkan Rog, Thunder/Orkan Boa. (Never used a Rog myself, you could go for Taranosaurus Rog if you don't encounter too many shielded robots.) You could replace the Boa or Carnage with a Gary, but with the new matchmaking even a medium lineup needs some power in case your spawn point is attacked. For the "end-game", once you arrive there we might have completely changed the mechanics of the game. Don't worry too much about it, your playing style and the robots you use will change over time. The main thing is also to have enough levelled weapons, as Leos, Griffins and to some degree Natashas are perfectly legit robots that can be bought for just a bit silver, so you can experiment with them and stick with what you like best. And it only takes a couple of days to level any robot to 7 or 8. You could jump to a heavy lineup immediately and experiment, chances are your "medium" lineup will face 80% heavies. You can level a bit asynchronous, that is, level one or two weapons of a kind higher than the other, because you never know which weapons you will use exactly in a few weeks or months. But with shields and anciles, both Tarans/Orkans and Mags/Aphids/Pinatas will be good weapons in the future, the question is only if you need 2, 4 or 6 of them. So no harm done in levelling 2, and switching them around. Looking at your suggestion, it doesn't really fit your "speed/beacon capping" description, and many people prefer to have at most one of each robot type in the hangar, for more flexibility. Galahads will cap, but Lancelots are tanks, slow and heavy. Fury is slow as hell too, and I have regretted buying it as a Natasha does the job just as well. I'd suggest to try one DB Griffin instead of a Lance, and a maybe a Carnage (Thunder/Trident/Zeus depending on your preference) or Rhino instead of the second Galahad, with a Galahad/Carnage (or Rhino)/Fury/DB Griff/Lance lineup. Try an Ancilot (Ancile Lancelot), a Thunder/Aphid or Thunder/Pinata Leo, or a RDB Griff, see if you like them.

Many thanks for the suggestions.
I've tested Griffs and Leos in the meantime and yes, they definitely seem to hold their own easily even without being levelled. The Lancelot suggestion - not to include 2 - is probably a good idea as well and a DB Griffin might be a better choice considering how comparatively maneuverable it is. Fury might get kicked out too - it's incredibly slow and I didn't buy it with AU anyway so no big waste there...
I hate that the game forces us to play with heavies if we want to be competitive but I guess I'll just have to adapt. Thanks again for the ideas.

You won your Fury?
It's incredibly slow, yes, but 3 heavies packs a lot of power. A lot of top tier brawlers hate Furies, especially if 2 or 3 are coordinated. Having said that, a good number of gold/top players don't run Furies, either. It's a matter of preference as well.
When playing solo, yes, the game forces you to play heavies, only exception probably is the Galahad. However, when you squad, bots like the Carnage, Fujin, Gareth and even Stalker can be given useful roles.

Yes, I got the Fury from the wheel. The first $50 I spent basically gave me double the AU worth back (around 13k+), including the Fury. The next $50 gave me absolutely f*** all and then I stopped.
Regarding the Fury, I'll level it eventually but I'll try to stick with Carnage for as long as I can simply because of speed. I did try the Fury out on the test server and it *is* incredibly powerful, but sitting a 100m from spawn really isn't my play style. I'd rather do less damage and move around and keep options (beacons, flanking, ambush) than move like a glacier. I guess that ties in to the point about how a Griffin may be a better idea than a second Lance.
Regarding Solo and Squad, completely agree, I've noticed the same thing when squadding.
I guess ultimately I'll go 2 Plasma Galahads, Lance, DB Griffin, Zeus/Trident Carnage. And switch things out a bit between Fury/Carnage and Galahad/2nd Griffin possibly.
