Hey everyone, I've been playing War Robots for about 2 months now. As a F2P pilot, I quickly realized that the Black Market and Superchests in specific would be a good way to easily acquire all that shiny new "end game" bots and weapons that we all desire. Last month I was able to acquire 2 Superchest spins without spending any RM on keys from grinding through the event and using my free ads to supplement. I made it my goal to replicate that achievement this month. In order to stay on track for January, I decided to do some calculations. Without any real progress indication (please Pix) and not wanting to rely on the seemingly arbitrary task progress bar, I wanted to figure out how much I needed to play each day to do this. I want to share this with you all in case it may help my fellow pilots with their own goals. First, I need to know how many keys I need to spend to get my 2 Superchests. From what I've read, each Superchest requires a total of 7500 keys spent through the Black Market. (7500 keys/superchest) * 2 = 15,000 keys Now how many keys do I need to earn per day in a 31 day BM cycle to get to 15,000? 15,000 / 31 = ~484 keys/day Alright, I know what I have to earn each day. Next I have to breakdown my key income. As I mentioned previously, I use most of my ads to spin free Bronze chests aside from an upgrade reduction here and there. Of course, you also will win some keys in these chests and earn keys from each game played. I decided that the the best way to get a good grasp on this was to calculate my average keys earned per game. This is how I tackled that. Free Bronze Spin = 10 keys Average Keys earned per Bronze spin: 100 / 50 = 2 Keys/spin (I did this using my rewards log, taking the total amount of Keys won/number of spins)
Average Keys earned from post game rewards:
(5 + 1) / 2 = 3 Keys/game (Adding the maximum and minimum amount of keys able to be won each game and averaging them)
So I'd be earning:
10 + 2 + 3 = 15 Keys/game on average
Now 2/3's of this income is soft progress, by that I mean that I have to use the ads to spin the free Bronze chests. In order to achieve a Superchest however, I'm forced to use my actual Keys towards more spins. There has been a ton of discussion on the forums as to whether the Bronze/Silver/Gold chests are the best use of your earned Keys. Based on the (accurate? who knows) drop rate table given to us by Pix, these are the drop rate %'s of keys in each tier:
Bronze: 19.53%
Silver: 17.66%
Gold: 13.75%
These are total percentages and don't take into account Common/Uncommon/Rare/Epic drops of Keys in each tier. Last month I saved up to 100 Keys at a time and then spent them on a Silver chest. I did this because I felt they had the best payout for a new player that still could use a lot of the mid-tier rewards available here, while also having a good chance of getting Keys in return. This month I've decided to take a different approach by spending my earned Keys only on Gold chests. My reasons for this are that over the last month of play, I've significantly improved my hangar levels and equipment (thanks for the free Orkans Pix ) and I feel that the chance of earning some premium items from Gold chests outweighs the probability that I will be earning less Keys on average from my chest spins overall. If I should somehow miss out on that second Superchest spin that I'm aiming for, the better overall rewards should make up for that. We will see how that goes as I'm nearing my first Gold chest spin today, although I'm contemplating continuing to stockpile Keys until the end of the BM season to see where I am at from free spins exclusively and spending my earned keys on Gold chests only if I feel as though the second Superchest is a reasonable goal. Otherwise I'll just let Pix roll them for me.
All that being said, I still want to account for Keys earned from other chest spins. I decided that the simplest way to do this would be to estimate that each Key that I actually spend in the Black Market will net a 20% return on Keys. That seems to be the standard return rate based on my free Bronze spin calculation I did above using my rewards log (each spin gave me 2 Keys on average per "10 Keys" spent). This could be wildly off depending on how lucky you get from Silver or Gold spins, but without knowing explicit Key amounts for each tier of prize, I thought that this would be the most conservative way to approach the problem based on a Worst Case Scenario approach. I think everyone familiar with Pix probably has a similar mindset. So, each real Key I earn and spend each game will add 20% to my total Keys per game.
5 * .2 = 1 Key/game
That brings our total Keys earned per game up to:
15 + 1 = 16 Keys/game
Now that I know a rough number of Keys earned per game, how many games do I need to play each day to stay on track? Well I need to include one more piece of information before I calculate that. We get 5 free ad spins per day. That's going to reduce the number of keys I need to earn from playing each day by 50 plus 20% of that will be returned to me in the form of real keys. Since I don't want to get too complex with factoring in the return on those Keys as well, I'll just leave it at that. My new target Keys per day is:
484 - 50 - (50 * .2) = 424 Keys/day from play
That means I need to play:
424 / 16 = ~27 games/day
That's a solid amount of games. But the real question now is how long will that take me? A 3/2 beacon game ends in 7 minutes. Then you need to include time spent in queue and time spent watching ads. Since you may end games much more quickly, mech out and get into a new one before you can spin, etc., I think 7 minutes/game is a good baseline estimate for me at least. So finally:
27 * 7 = 189 minutes or 3 hrs and 9 min of game time/day.
Phew! That was my process for trying to figure out how to progress towards 2 Superchests this BM season. I know this was a long post so I thank anyone for reading. I'd love to hear your thoughts/questions/feedback/experience/tips & advice or criticism. See you on the forums and in your robots!

Funny, mine was much simpler.
7500/31 = 20 games a day. + 5 free from ads.
I'm only going for 1 Superchest though, and so far, I am earning a little more than 100 keys/day. So it should be 1 Superchest and 3 Gold Chests if everything goes according to plan for me. But I'm saving up all my keys 'til the end of the month to spin them, just in case I miss out on the Superchest.
I am also recording it, so I know exactly how far I'm at since the progress bar is worthless. The paper I'm using to keep track is not doing so well though, as it has to last an entire month. So far, an urchin has spilled water on it twice even though I gave a warning that it might happen and to be careful. Sigh.
Another thing to consider is to not spin the 3 Gold Chests, and just let it autospin at the end of the month. So it excludes the case where you get 500 or 750 keys back, and you can't do anything with it since it's the last day of the month and no time left. I might just do that.

That's some solid calculations, my friend l4v4 Are you sure you're time wouldn't be spend more wisely on out of game activity? But I digress .. don't forget the turnout of the Superchest. If you get back 3000 keys, you'll make it easily to the second. If not, you're in it for quite a grind.

So it excludes the case where you get 500 or 750 keys back, and you can't do anything with it since it's the last day of the month and no time left. I might just do that. That is a much simpler way just taking into account the free Bronze spin per game and that was the initial start of all this for me. When I realized I needed to play 40 games a day to get to 2 Superchests, it seemed a little daunting so I wanted to see realistically how much I could lower that threshold if I took into account other Key income, then convert it into playtime of course. Recording the games on my phone/pen and paper method was a little more tedious than I give myself credit for keeping up with. Especially hopping into games quickly after another, I know I'd skip some here and there. I haven't really come up with a better way for me to keep track other than logging changes in Keys/marking each game after I played it. Kinda toyed around with taking the change in my victories each day and using my running win percentage to get a good estimate, but that of course isn't accurate with the 50 game running average. Yeah it dawned on my that after my second Superchest last month, there was no viable way (aside from some insane spin luck) for me to get to a third so I should just stop spinning there to let the no-key payout take over for whatever I won. I also stopped using my ads on Bronze chests at this point and starting hammering down upgrade times with all of my available ads. Oh I'm certain my time could be spent much more wisely out of game haha. I'm hoping for the big key payouts (~500 - 4000) in the Gold chests to be honest. Grinding a Superchest to just to get progress towards another Superchest would be quite disappointing unless it set me on track for a third. Any of those big key wins would definitely drive my playtime down of course which would mean more out of game time for other things!

I opened 4 superchest last month. 3 of them were with help of grind , 4th was thanks to the 4K keys I got from super chest. From those 4K keys I opened 4 gold chest and got a ancile,rog,3k ember , 800 keys. Personally I feel that gold chest items are far better than other two chest. I didn’t open gold chest before,it was my first time to open 4 of them in a row. HEre is a tip for you 15 gold chest >> than 2 super chest. Although most of chest would be from spins you have better odds of getting good stuff from let’s say 8 gold chest ( assuming half bar was filled by watching commercials )compared to 2 superchest now a days. From 4 superchest I got :- 1) Doc ( works good but personally I think it has a learning curve like rhino ) 2) 4K keys 3) 2.25 inquisitor components 4) around 2k kumiho components. So it is up to you to decide which chest are actually better. Superchest aren’t much good anymore so I’ll say instead of opening bronze save up for gold chest although you might get something like aphid in return . But same goes with superchest , you can win anything...even a Galahad which isn’t much useful in current meta and not worth farming whole month. You could get that bot with help of gold easily.

Yea, I know what you mean. I can't rely on Gold Chests to get any keys, so I stopped at 1 Superchest. But if you wanted to figure it out:
100 keys a day * 31 days / 10 keys to open a Bronze * 20% chance to get keys from Bronze chest * 7 key avg (I should have enough data soon for the avg keys) = 434 additional keys.
So that's the difference if I spun all bronze chests vs spinning 3 Gold Chests with about 3K keys. It's not 100% accurate, but should be good enough back-of-the-envelope type calculation.
I figure that being a few counts off in my record keeping is not a big deal. Better than last month when I couldn't tell if I had 200 keys more to go, or 1000 keys. I also keep track of the prizings, so I can reconcile my numbers and see if they match up. So I record it once to see how much I play each day. Then I record it again on the other half of my paper which prize I won. So far, I'm already off by one. Since I record it twice, then I can fix my mistakes if I reconcile it each day, as 2 mistakes could cancel each other out lol.
Also, this might effect the overall strategy in collecting components. Since grinding out ads generate a lot of random components, and super chests can really add a lot of one component at once, then it's better fill up the components evenly so a big win means you won't go over the top and therefore waste a lot of WSP/AU to buy those components.

Well, good for them if they are getting them more cheaply. It wouldn't be the first time Pix was doing things differently for different systems or pilots. I am certain for me, last black market period, it took 7500+.

I could have sworn I read something about the superchests being down to around 3500 keys to open? Yes you did. But it's wrong. There's a lot of misinformation here. Fake news. Sigh. Some of it is unintentional. But some have an agenda and keep repeating it, so that if something is repeated enough, people will believe it's true and not verify it. Anyways, it's 7500 keys to open a Super Chest.

Great job to the op! The second post confirms the same. Thanks! Although I will stick w one super chest as a goal like always.... 37 games a day...that’s a job, not entertainment.

I have not come anywhere near 7500 keys yet. More like 2500. Just curious, @macwarrobots , how many SC’s have you hit During any season? I hit the first one in the summer event, never got closer to 50 percent completion, including the one during the Halloween event, in which I completed the entire task tree. That is, until last season when I hit three despite spending 0 on keys. No way did I get 22,500 keys — more like 10,000.

By the war, darkknight appears to confirm my estimate of somewhere around 3500 keys for SC as we both completed the first event task and earned 3 chests through play but he earned a 4th due to winning 4000 keys. My guess is that they may have just reduced keys by 50% to 3750 but it is definitely in that range and far less than was needed prior to last season.

Watch how many keys it takes:
He does 8 gold chests for a superchest, although the last gold chest spin was on an almost complete superchest bar, making 7500 pretty accurate.
C'mon guys, there's hundreds of chest opening videos how are we still arguing about this?

cmdrperaltaI play on iOS and from opening chests I know it's ~7000-8k keys. Judging by the mouse clicks I'd say that's FB. I highly doubt it varies by platform anyway, there's no reason to code it that way as it would be a pain for pix to track effectively. I have't looked but you can probably search youtube for people opening chests and do the count.

I have about 1200 keys stored. I will wait until closer to the end and decide what I want to do.

I read somewhere that silver chests award keys for spins less frequently than bronze and gold chests. No idea if that is true. Also, your math forgot to account for the 5 free spins you get each day Lastly, I opened two super chests last month. First was a Zeus, and the second was 2k keys. I was very close to a thrid chest by months end, but just couldn't get there. Anyway, should your first superchest award you the 2-5k keys (5k is max keys awarded?), I guess that significantly reduces your required gameplay calculations for the second half of the month

According to the loot table that Pix released (taken with a grain of salt) Silver chests should award Keys as prizes slightly less than Bronze but more often than Gold chests. Anecdotally my experience with Silver chests for Keys has been quite good. I haven’t tracked the raw data but that was my experience. I haven’t opened enough Gold chests yet to have a good idea about the Key payouts there.
I did account for the 5 free spins further down in my post. I probably should have done it in the beginning when I was calculating Keys needed each day.
Gold chests are supposed to be able to award somewhere between 500 - 4k Keys max. Superchests can award from 2k - 3k. What the actual prize amounts are and where they land in the Rare/Epic categories I have no idea. I’ll probably watch some YouTube videos to see if I can pick out what the specific prizes can be as they whirl across the screen.

So I got the first superchest this season (2000 haechi components) and I'm about 1/3rd on the bar for the second one. Been playing a TON and spamming nothing but Ad chests. I think I'll go the full way on this next superchest with just Ads and save the keys for the end of the season if I'm able.

I think I'll go the full way on this next superchest with just Ads and save the keys for the end of the season if I'm able. Were you spinning Bronze, Silver or Gold chests with your earned Keys?

I got around 7500 keys also each time for Super chests...put that question to bed someday. I open ads and then Silver chests only. Bronze is too little a reward and Gold is too big a chance of fail. Of course most of my Silver chests end up being 50-90 keys or Silver. Super chests have been pretty decent. Gold and 3k components.

No, it is not. At least not on iOS. I hit 3 super chests last season and am 70 percent of the way to my first of this season. I opened two superchests last season. The first superchest I won 3000 keys with which I opened three gold chests and got less than half the bar filled. I am using almost all of my ads to open bronze chests. The amount is definitely around 7-8K on iOS. I think the biggest difference now is the free bronze spins which ad up. I am a bit less than have this season having only opened free bronze chests. I have about 1200 keys stored. I will wait until closer to the end and decide what I want to do. My last superchest of the season last month was 2k keys, with which I opened two gold chests. The 2k keys filled somewhere between 1/4 to 1/3 of the bar. So I would assume the 7,500 is still accurate. I'm on iOS. @macwarrobots cmdrperalta

I did a quick calculation though, since I have only opened free bronze from ads and apparently I am playing too much...

At first I was only spinning silver chests but as I got close to the end I started burning bronze chests exclusively.

No, it is not. At least not on iOS. I hit 3 super chests last season and am 70 percent of the way to my first of this season. I have not come anywhere near 7500 keys yet. More like 2500. I'm counting my keys this season, so I'll know for sure at the end of the month what it takes to currently hit 1 superchest. But I will stand by my 7500 keys until I see other proof.

My last superchest of the season last month was 2k keys, with which I opened two gold chests. The 2k keys filled somewhere between 1/4 to 1/3 of the bar. I did a quick calculation though, since I have only opened free bronze from ads and apparently I am playing too much... My bar is 1/3 filled up, and I am on track to hit it with ads only, no keys spent. I am saving my keys till the end, so I can use it for Bronze for extra keys if I need it to hit the Superchest. If not, then I will let it auto-spin since I don't want 750 or 500 keys that are useless at end of month. So yes, it still looks like 7500. I have already hit 2200 keys this season, so like I said, that is definitely not enough for a superchest. Only 1/3 way. That's about 22 ads watched a day, so 22 ads x 10 days x 10 key (each ad is worth 10 keys) = 2200 keys
