After leaving the game a while ago, I found a new game called planet commander. It interested me as I saw in it a small part what war robots once was. It had very similar ideas to it, but it had space ships instead of war robots. I feel this can be the next war robots, if battle of titans doesn't do it. I primarily love it as it had the basic elements war robots had, you win if you have better stuff, not too much skill, and all weapons are fairly balanced. No rock-paper-scissors, which led me to leave war robots in the first place. I hope it continues to improve, and if war robots does not, this will be my complete replacement. I'm confused by two of your comments. It has good balance across the board but no rock paper scissors. Rock paper scissors is balance. That was the best part of War Robots. Some setups were good against some, while bad against others. It took a lot of strategy and skill to play the right bots at the right times, engage the right enemies, all while still focusing on the objective of the game.
If you mean that every ship and setup plays nearly identical, I personally would find that very boring. Mainly just want some more information, although I may try it out anyways this weekend.

In war robots, if you got a energy shield, it will block projectiles and non energy weapons. in planet commander, the shields are special modules that give a complete damage reduction (the one i have now blocks 50% of damage for a few seconds) for a short time, and after a timer can be used again, for a set ammount of times. war has shields that block certain weapon types, so if you get the wrong one you are fighting...the point is there are no very direct counters. All weapons are different, and the tiers (there are six) decide how good it is. It is how good your stuff is, not what type of weapon the enemy has.

I posted about this game before my holiday break. It's pay to win for sure. Sure, you can grind and get the non premium stuff and level them up. But it will take a while. In many ways, it's better than War Robots. The prices are much more reasonable, and they give you prizes for how well you did. For example, if you're in the top 15%, you get better weapons at the end of each "season". This is basically what War Robots is trying to adopt this year. Also, their daily quests are pretty good and discouraging tanking. They have things like "win x number of battles without losing a ship" and so on. I've spent about $50 so far for 2 premium ships and am now grinding to level them up. I like the game, but have no illusions about my skill. I'm winning because I have good ships and good weapons. There are some team tactics, but they're very hard to pull off. Most of the time I'm either playing hide and blast from behind cover, charging in and engaging multiple minnows with my sharks, or sitting back and letting my team soak up the damage (for when I'm on the lose no ships quests). The upgrades don't take time, but each upgrade costs more and more gold, with a decreasing percentage of success. For example, the first upgrade of any component is 100% and costs 112k coins. The next upgrade of the same component will cost more, but have 90% success rate. This means that you can grind all day for gold, go to upgrade your ship, and have the upgrades fail. That's really annoying.
If you get this game and don't want to spend money, I'd advise saving your gold and crystals for the Cruiser class of ship. The Frigates, Destroyers and Interdicters are all pretty much 1 shot kills. Battleships are bigger, but cost a ton of gold to upgrade and with the decreasing odds of success, they become almost useless, and it doesn't take many upgrades for a Cruiser to equal a Battleship in HP and damage. I don't have any Dreadnoughts yet, and they're rumors that they will add an aircraft carrier in a future update. If you get this game and don't mind spending to support the developers, I'd advise getting the "General's Kit". This is basically their special deal and you can get some good starter equipment.
There is some rock paper scissor elements in this game. Basically, you have a zoom function so that you can identify ships at range, and pick and choose ships that are smaller than you. Like I said above, anything smaller than a Cruiser is a 1 shot kill for me, so I tend to target those first and only use my guns and save my missiles/nukes/torpedoes for bigger prey. As you advance, you get things like shields that can reduce damage taken by 30%. These can be life savers against torpedoes (which are the most powerful weapon I've seen so far).
The thing I like about this game the best is how much less reliant on a good data connection it is. Lag isn't too bad, and I can actually play at my desk (shhh don't tell my boss). I won't even try to play War Robots at my desk due to lousy data connection.
I find the game relaxing. There isn't that heart thumping excitement - even when the battle lines intertwine and you engage enemies at point blank range. You plan your route and then pick your targets. The ships all maneuver like whales, and I haven't decided if it's worth upgrading my thrusters and engine to increase my mobility. You can't dodge missiles once they lock on (unless you're playing hide and blast behind cover like me), and you can't dodge torpedoes once they've been fired as they can swerve around cover. I guess they would help me get in and out of cover faster and avoid more hits. But once the battle becomes a free for all, they don't do much.
Give it a shot if you want. But by no means is it War Robots with space ships.

But by no means is it War Robots with space ships. maybe not, but the reason i play this game is the same reason i used to play war, a nice, calm pvp game where it matters how good your stuff is, and losing isn't frustrating. also, you cannot tank, as even a loss gives you league points.

I just discovered this game, Planet Commander, it’s out for iOS now. Right away it struck me “this is War Robots in space”. There’s a serious scope bug and other issues but it scratches that itch when I first played War Robots. At times it felt like I was in Battlestar Galactica, swinging under ships with bullet streams and explosions. Though for an orientless space shooter it appears to use Euler angles (instead of Quaternions) so you get angle locking when looking straight ‘up’ or ‘down’. Still it’s been fun and I hope to see this game get better.

There are a few balanced games out there, ie f2p can compete with paying players (which mostly get time off and few designer items) but you have to put up with lesser graphics,fewer maps and the likes. Developers need their paycheck at the end of the month.

Yeah, I got in on the ground floor with the game a while back. It has steadily progressed although far too many of the younger generation has been yammering and 「female dog」ing for immediate this and that without consideration that it's still a game in development. I play it off and on watching to see how it progresses. I like it so far but I recently opened it to find some sadly recognizable elements in it. Chest opening for one. One armed bandit for item acquisition for another.

Is anyone here old enough to remember FREELANCER.If someone would take that game and remaster it for mobile platforms,i would start playing it right now and never turn back.I could play that for 2 decades.Eve online is awsome,but the ways you could move in Freelancer is mind blowing I played adventure on a DEC PDP11. Does that make me old enough?
