Matchmaking based on similar bot and weapon levels gives squad mates equality in potential damage dealing right? And winning in the regular game is based primarily on beacon capture. Yes damage matters a lot but we all know winning (read win rates) can radically swing with good beacon capture.
But MM creates squads based on win rates, mixing lower skilled, but high damage dealing, players into squads with higher skilled players with lighter bots and weapons more able, willing, and aware of capturing beacons.
So IMO, the skilled players may get gold due to beacon capture but they ain't going to get the event coins!
In the current MM system I have certainly experienced more wins now with me getting less or no gold, even after I have captured multiple beacons, because my damage was not high enough.
Perhaps all players should just throw their highest damage hangars out there in this MM. I have read that on the wiki from others as the best approach now in the regular non-event game. Then win rate adjusts to your max damage hangar. But that may not be the way a player chooses to win in the regular game.
I have been running a Gareth and Galahads to give me some speed edge for beacon capture and gold, finishing 3rd or 4th in damage but getting 3-8 gold. I have predominantly 4/8 bots. Unfortunately I think ELO has stabilized a bit and my win rate squads me with and against bots level 6-9 and similar level weapons. I can do damage but only as long as I am alive, which is not that long LOL. My medium hangar used to run at an 80% win rate, At the moment I am right at 50%.
But that faster lighter bots for beacon capping strategy is a loser when it comes to an event only rewarding damage dealing. It always has been I know. But now I know my wins are going to tank if I am not capturing beacons. The squads might be just more polarized now I think. I used to be able to do max damage and get enough beacons to max gold but I don't think that is true now. I certainly see little chance of maxing coins in the event, because MM is also going to adjust and just provide a different level of lower skilled (newer ?) higher damage squad mates to beat me out in damage.
Maybe I should just ALWAYS ignore beacons and just do damage! Somebody will go get them, but I will get the coins! Hmmmm...
But of course, no matter how terrible I am, MM will now guarantee me a 50% win rate eventually.
Not really a Rant, but a theory and a concern. Thoughts?
