Leo is short for Leopold (obviously), but it's for the German tank not the constellation. If you compare pictures of the Leo's cockpit area with the tank you can see where the designers got the inspiration.

I may have been a little off, but when the fox became the design on it... I just assumed it was a fox fur boa...
