The other day, I was playing and saw a curious sight. While everyone was counting down before the match began, the Griffin in front of me suddenly good off running. I still had 11 seconds on my clock, but his bot was on the move. It quickly ran into a wall and proceeded to keep running into that wall until the clock expired and we all started moving (a teammate ran into him, and that unstuck the guy).
At the time, I wrote it off as some strange bug, but the more I think about it, the more I wonder if it was actually a bot running it. Basically, let the bot run while you're away and reap the silver (bonus if it tanks your elo in the process) from whatever it manages to accomplish.
Is this a thing? Have other folks witnessed similar oddities?

Happens rarely, but I do experience it once in a while and I'm definitely not a bot. Probably a clock sync issue.

It's a clock sync issue that Pixo is well aware of. Last year they published a series of "Funniest War Robots Moments" gameplay compilation videos, and I distinctly remember a similar scene, where one robot took off at the beginning of a match before everyone else's 'hurry-up-and-wait' timer had expired. I've tried to exploit it, as there is a very narrow window of time where you can 'grab' your movement controls before your first bot selection screen pops up. The best result I've gotten however is having my 1st bot drop with it's legs facing backwards, forcing a 180 view spin at the start of the match. Definitely a bug, very rare, extremely difficult to duplicate, and impossible to reliably exploit. Definitely NOT an aim-bot, script-bot, nor similar ilk but I wondered at first as well
