Getting that second Hangar Deck has been absolutely amazing. I feel like a whole new game has opened up for me. I joked here that I was going to build a spam hangar. And I did...sort of. First let me say that my average damage has gone down in the last couple of days. I've also lost so many games with my second hangar that I've fallen from mid D2 to D3. But, I'm actually having more fun. This is all because I can now choose my mid/long range hangar when I get stuck on the dreaded large maps.
Anyway, I just wanted to share this with you all.
I've now had 2 games where my treb/gekko Nat was my ONLY bot in the whole game. The first game, was in Canyon, and I netted over 450k damage. I didn't take a screen shot of that. This second game, which I just had, I did less damage, but had 7 kills, and I feel I contributed to the win more. See, I wasn't just sitting in one spot waiting for someone to come into the open. I was actively moving around, trying to get better angles, feeling out a target with my gekko before committing a treb blast. My Nat is level 7, trebs are 6, and gekkos are 8.
I was even dueling with a treb Fury across the map at one point. This was on Yam. The idiot was just standing at the top of the ramp on his side, taking pot shots at my team (and me). He actually got me down to about 1/4 health before I finally got him. Anyway, in between dueling, I was hitting bots on the centre beacon, clearing the way for my blues. At one point, I actually took out a jumping Griffin before it could unload it's complete magazine, so I know I was contributing. Then, when the reds were down to 2 bots, I started advancing. I almost ejected at one point because we were down on beacons. But, we finally got the centre beacon, and when we got there, I managed to take out one more bot in the far right corner.
The moral of my story? Become what you hate/fear, and you will understand it better. Yes, there WILL be camper snipers that don't contribute to a game. BUT, if you want to be an effective sniper, it can actually be very fun. From my vantage point, I could see the entire battle and I could decide when and where a treb blast and gekko burn will do the most good. I prioritized Carnages and light bots first. Then went after heavies and either softened them up, or finished them off. I could even see that I was chasing some of the centre reds out into the open where they got toasted by blue knife fighters. All in all, it was a very good game.
