Walking War Robots: A Review
Walking War Robots is a mobile-friendly game with potential to reach console gameplay, possibly on the Steam Workshop should several key aspects change. Said changes will be mentioned later on, in the meantime the game itself will be described from both the perspective of a new player and a veteran player, both on the Android platform. I have reviewed the reactions between android and apple products and neither seem to have a difference in experiences. I post this here knowing my old clan mates might see this, and in turn will begin their harassments on these experiences by posting some very ugly things. The only reason they will do this is for the simple fact that I do not enjoy "losing on purpose to lower my score" or rather "tanking", they do not like that I do not pray to their patron gods in Pixonic, which they do heartily and merrily whilst demonstrating shock and appall that I would be so brazen, so disrespectful that I do not honor them much less enjoy the feeling of being bent over and substantially 「grape」 by the programmers of this diamond-studded rotten placenta of a game. (Think of what happened to Indiana Jones in South Park. Kinda like that. That scene keeps popping up in my mind everytime I hear Pixonic has made a new decision.)
Reapers, if you really like being the concubines for Pixonic and loving and accepting them for all their bad decisions, then please, feel free to do so. Someone has to keep the beds in Russia warm.

The download size is generous and it's representation on the google play store is pleasing and succinct. This is initially what drew me to play the game in the first place. I had never heard of it before, had never seen gameplay footage, and was given the impression that the game resembled a cross between Front Mission and Armored Core. I was not disappointed. The initial introduction and gameplay was very immersive and easy to get into. I was hooked within the first 10 minutes. I found the game to be very balanced and positively challenging.
Once I entered a clan, The Reapers (R33P), I was assisted by veterans whom helped to teach me the art of "Knife Fighting", which I found to be the perfect gameplay style for me. My first milestones were to get a full 5 slot hangar (achieved), 6 Magnums (achieved), 6 Pinatas (achieved), 3 Aphids (achieved) and 5 Gepards (achieved). So long as I maintained the cumulative level of my equipment to 16 (Lv 1 Gep/Lv 5 Weapons) I could stay within a certain homeostasis of high damage output and low rankings. There was never a shortage of new players which I could farm gold off of, since the game was becoming wildly popular. If anything, their numbers kept increasing, as though chopping off the head of a newbie spawned 2 in it's place.
I was truly happy with the results and regularly pulled in 10 gold per battle. I enjoyed the times I had spent with my clan in clan raiding parties. My newest milestones involved gaining several gold items such as Orkans and Lancelots to level them up and join my fellow Reapers in battling higher level clans in heavy and competitive competition. Despite the "Seal Clubbing", it only served to give new players the objective of gaining Gepards of their own to farm gold themselves. By the time they have their hangars and Gepards and shiny new weapons, the players whom farmed gold off of them have moved on to competitive gameplay and supporting and teaching new players.
Such was my experience, and it was good. I enjoyed a great game, and I spent countless hours on it with nothing short of enjoyment, regardless of wins or losses. I was with a brotherhood Overdrive good friends whom even now I miss.

The game has changed into something far different from what it used to be a year ago. It's now a chore to get on and earn silver for upgrades which ultimately lead to almost no improvements in terms of gameplay. The only way to gain gold in noticeable amounts is by completing daily challenges which yield 30-40 gold. The gameplay is focused more on upgrading weapons and bots with huge amounts of silver and waiting days to complete them, one at a time, so as to not waste gold.
There are now lottery-like chests in a new feature called the Black Market. Gain either 10, 100, or 1000 keys (in very tiny amounts per battle) to open their corresponding chests. Open enough chests and you get a special item of "Assured Rare Value". The idea that the keys only come in values of 5 or less per battle dependent of performance is a clear sign that the intention is to purchase keys with gold. A fraudulent system.
Another feature is Call to Arms, a task involving Facebook. Gather 5 people to join the game at the same time and have them reference you and, if all registrations are completed successfully, once all 5 players have checked in they qualify for a starter robot such as Golem or Boa to name a few. Once they have reached Level 5 and have gone through the majority of the initial tutorial of gameplay elements, the player who invited them to begin with earns points in a value named Influence Points. These points are exclusively used to buy 3 special bots called Jesse, Doc, and Butch; part of a collection called the Wild West Bunch. A failed system based on Facebook to boost the popularity of the game. Players are exploiting this to gain the bots via fake Facebook accounts. Though Pixonic is now policing accounts for this, there are many ways around this.
Another new point system is called the Component System. This is a system in which points are gathered for individual robots or weapons in amounts of 10000 per. The current event, the Halloween Event, rewards these points in minuscule amounts which are not given until several thousands of gold are spent on a pseudo lottery which is designed to make a player think they may be lucky enough to earn the top prize if they are lucky enough, yet this is not true. The prizes are set in a totem pole of value importance from least valuable items to most valuable. Another fraudulent system.
The worst of it comes from the Matchmaking System. This system has been changed so that only those who have already farmed all the gold they would ever need from the previous farming methods in the old MM or only those who spend hundreds if not thousands of dollars purchasing gold can enjoy. New players are forced to purchase gold out of frustration and fledgling veterans who never got the chance to farm for very long are among those who suffer from this new MM, as they do not have the means to battle in unbalanced matchups. Many times the weaker players are overwhelmed within the first 3 minutes of gameplay, and many times the newer players are left with nothing but a pitiful amount of silver and frustrations which force them to strongly consider purchasing gold and silver to instantly gain a level foothold on the enemy.
Now there is a new system which punishes a player for choosing the wrong load out. No longer can a player leave a battle if they are in a map that their current lineup would do poorly in. If a player is found "Hunting for a favorable battlefield", they are placed in a new MM system. This is the solution Pixonic has deployed to fix their terrible new MM which forces players to correct misplacements the old MM never had, while at the same time giving higher level players who purposely lose matches to lower their scores (Tanking) a "Seal" to club.
Such is my experience, and it is bad. I only get on for the daily challenges and to earn a few million silver to keep up my reserves, for workshop processing, to deal with the daunting challenges of a poorly assembled event, and if I see my old clan members, I hunt them down with fervor.
I miss how the game used to be. I miss my Gepards. I miss my old clan.
