Thinking of buying a shield bot after dying horribly to a few without putting a dent in them.
Is Gallahad worth double the gold for extra health and 1 extra light weapon slot? Or would 2 plasma Gareths be more effective.

Galahad has very quick speed and with shield good health for a medium bot. It is the most rounded bot in my opinion.

I was looking at a similar decision a few weeks ago. I saved for the Galahad. My experience in the wild (warning: purely anecdotal) was that I could usually overwhelm a Gareth's shield 1-v-1 in a medium bot, while Galahad was much sturdier. So its more than just an extra light weapon. His shield is a lot tougher to crack.

I would start with Galahad. Its durability gives you more room for error than the Gareth. Once you get good at using it, then I would consider Gareth. You need a much higher degree of situational awareness with the Gareth to use it well.

Running a 5 bot hangar with two 6/8 Plasmahads. While I keep switching and changing the other bots quite often, the Galahads are the solid backbone of my lineup.
I did not spent that much au lightly and did a lot of reading here, watched on youtube and was delaying the decision several times. But i'm happy with them and I know they will serve me well for a long time.
To not disappoint you: Galahads are vulnerable to splash. If you run into a solid leveled DB Rhino or DB Griff you might go down even without having fired a single shot. I got badly hurt from RDB Griffs as well. And there is a lot splash out there.
Let us know about your decision in an update to this thread if you don't mind.

Galahad if you don't already have one... for sure. This bot is a medium that thinks it's a heavy. Galahad's shield is meant to be abused and is basically better when treated as an HP boost for the bot. In other words, you expect to take hits, and it will take a lot of them before losing it. Its HP is double the Galahad's at each level. The speed of the Gala is really good for a medium bot. Really good. And firepower is one medium weapon less than a Griff, so pretty dang good. Since it is a mixture of lights and medium weapon hard-points, it allows for versatility too. I can go toe to toe with just about any bot in this thing, and the bots I can't take 1 v 1, I can either take some hits for the team to keep the red focused on me while the blues are flanking him, or I will most likely have the speed and shield HP to get away. Splash weapons, especially RDB and Trident setups, are its bane. They will succumb to splash quickly because while their shield is tough... their HP pool is low... and, as we know, splash ignores shield.
Gareth is a light bot and it doesn't have the identity crisis that Galahad does... it KNOWS it's a light bot. It is fast. And small. It has a shield, but it is not meant to be used like the Gala's. It is basically a tool to use to keep Gary alive while trying to get a light bot task accomplished. Beacon runs, distracting knifers and campers from hitting your team, flanking unassuming bots at any point on the map that it can be utilized, etc. NOT charging in with a frontal attack to take a beacon already controlled by the enemy by itself. (Too many people do that, I have killed many lol.) It is a master at killing Stalkers and Geps... just have to watch out for splash, backpedaling is key for pinatas. #justgarythings
Whichever the role you need filled, each of these bots excel at their respective roles. Don't worry that either will let you down for the job it was meant to do...

Excellent advice so far, looks like a Gala is a good spend. No reason to save for a Lance before getting a Galahad right?

Lance is nice, but knowing what I know now, I'd go galahad first all day long. You will want one eventually, but there's a lot of things to know and master on your galahad. Practice practice practice. |

You can not rely on the shield - it does get broken. it is quick with the shield down. Learn to corner shoot, learn to strafe and run sideways or backwards. Learn which way to turn so the shield absorbs aphids. Most importantly choose your opponent. Your worst enemy (plasma Galahad) is another Galahad. |

When I fight Gallahads I do notice they have a bit more confidence and tend to be willing to tank more than I would in a Gareth. Either bot will get destroyed by a dB/splash setup but both can backpedal/juke to avoid a significant amount (and sometimes all) of the damage. There is no point blank better option without considering how you like to play, which bot in your favorite hangar this/these bot/s will replace, and how well you can adjust to your new lineup. Personally I run a 5 Gareth hangar (3 taran/magnum 2 orkan/pin) but have run every bot on the test server and most in-game.. this is the hangar that best suits me. |

Personally I run a 5 Gareth hangar (3 taran/magnum 2 orkan/pin) but have run every bot on the test server and most in-game.. this is the hangar that best suits me. please dont consider this as a personal attack, but gareth is a weak bot.. i know you like them and suit your play style but using 5 weak bots do you think you are contributing well to your team? how much damage can you make per game? or what is your current average damage and average kills per game? i love galahad, i have 4 of them. but now im playing in top i can feel that gala dont have that much fire power. im now using 3 gala, fury and griffin. i also have a plan to replace 1 plasma gala with lance im just waiting for its weaps to reach 12. |

I should have been more clear... It's not necessarily mobile cover... And I don't recommend going head to head against everything without using corners and cover and all that... I was trying to say that I will gladly trade hits on my shield with most bots if I know I can kill them in a gala... Especially if a beacon is involved. But in a Gary I try to avoid as much fire as possible unless no other option or I'm ready to suicide to get into a bigger bot. |

To answer your question quickly so I don't jack the op but to show the point I was making with my response: In summary the Gareth isn't a horrible option. Like any other bot, play to its strengths and you'll be alright. yup its not a horrible bot, just not enough fire power and Hp in my tier. i still use my gareth if i have some light bot task but after finishing the daily task i bring back my Galas. do you have plan to upgrade your weapons to level 11 or 12? |
